: Wiper delay
Been away over Christmas and New Year, so Happy New Year to all :)
Anyway, I've just found that on the shortest delay, my wipers pause for about 15 seconds between wipes. I think this is too long as my previous cars have only paused for 2-3 seconds. Is this what everyone gets ?

I thought they all were - as standard.

In Oz they are standard but according to the VW UK web site rain sensing wipers are an optional extra but standard on the 3.2 V6 sport version

Yes they come with the UK luxury pack. Not totally convinced they are a lot of benefit really, seem to have a mind of their own.
dannydutton 01-02-2008, 09:33 PM I wasn't convinced with rain sensing technology at first but I found that they worked very well on my wife's Golf and now I am very happy with how they work on the Eos. Actually they haven't worked for quite a while. Would love to have some rain to activate them!
SiJ2000 01-03-2008, 07:33 AM There's always plenty of rain here.... ;)
It is an option that I don't have.... I don't think it's worth it in this country... It's either raining or it isn't here! So I have them either off or on! LOL
neh321 01-03-2008, 08:32 AM I thought they all were - as standard.

They're not standard except on some models. I don't have them. I've had them on cars before and personally don't like them at all. I was always having to do the job manually, which frankly is not beyond the wit of most people... I think it's one of those things that answer a question no-one has asked. The manufacturers would be far better off working on things like standard phones in cars, plug-in MP3s etc - i.e. things people actually want/need, rather than things that make life easier for your little finger and you would never have thought of yourself!
ManiacRaceDude 01-03-2008, 09:14 AM Conversely, I've had rain sensing wipers on my cars for 6/7 years now, and wouldn't be without them again. Does mess you up though - whenever I drive my wifes car now (which doesn't have them), I forget that they won't come on automatically :)
Still one mans pleasure is another mans poison. I for one can't imagine why anyone would want an in-built phone in their car!
lordy 01-03-2008, 10:41 AM My Accord has rain sensing wipers. At first i thought it was just a gimmick, but they do work really well. I fiddled with the sensitivity for a while and found a setting which works well from a light spit of rain to a full blown downpour. I like.

Each to his/her own! In-built car phones can be a good licence saver..
ManiacRaceDude 01-03-2008, 12:06 PM Best license saver when driving is to not use the phone at all IMHO! Never understood why any call should be so important that it can't wait until you can safely stop!
Like you say, each to their own... :)
nail-z-gull 01-03-2008, 02:01 PM If I didn't have my rain sensing wipers I wouldn't be able to play the "not allowed to put the roof up until the wipers go off" game.
:p
SoCalMan 01-03-2008, 04:07 PM According to an older post in VwVortex, the early Eos' were fitted with a
Bosch rain sensing unit. Apparently it didn't work that great and VW switched
to a module made by TRW. I have the TRW unit and can say that I am surprised at how well it works.
If you search the Vortex site, you can find pictures of the two modules.
Are your wipers rain sensing?
Gosh, this thread has gone off into rain sensing wipers !
No, mine aren't. I'm just selecting intermittent wipe and putting the delay selector button to the far right.
It did occur to me that it got mucked up when the dealer fitted the cruise control, but if it's the same for everyone...

You're right Bob, and no-one seems to have answered your original question!
Shortest delay on mine (little switch furthest to right) is only a couple of seconds. Looks like you have a fault.
ManiacRaceDude 01-04-2008, 09:20 AM How long does it wait on the longest delay? (with the switch furthest the opposite direction?)
neh321 01-04-2008, 10:17 AM How long does it wait on the longest delay? (with the switch furthest the opposite direction?)
Must be abt 15/20 seconds although somehow it seems to vary. Sometimes it seems to take so long I can't even remember if I've left it on intermittent wipe or switched it off altogether...!
How long does it wait on the longest delay? (with the switch furthest the opposite direction?)
About 20 seconds. It's the same delay regardless of the position of the switch. I'd guess it happened when the cruise control was fitted, ho hum. Back to the dealer. Thanks chaps.
Garage report faulty switch. The car is staying in the hospital overnight awaiting part.
They said they'd pre-ordered a few things they thought it might be - but not the wiper stalk :(
Hmpf. They had the car two days but just brought it back with the fault unfixed. They reckon they'd ordered the wrong part. So it'll have to go back in again once they've got the right one. Hope this isn't the start of a saga....
Sure doesn't inspire confidence in the dealership. Best of luck with a swift and final repair.
cheers

Seems like a fairly typical VW dealer... or just a typical dealer more like!
Car is back with the dealer. They've tried another replacement stalk and the fault is still there. They are now awaiting a response from VW Technical :(
Stephb 02-07-2008, 08:57 PM I hope they fix it soon bob, sounds like vw likes to take the mick out of some customers it really annoys me sometimes :(
Steph xxx
Well, I think they are doing their best, but I think they aren't being helped by VW technical support.
Anyway, I'm going to live with the problem.
I think it has to be a wiring fault. Nothing wrong with the switch, software etc. They've been advised by VW that the car needs "stripping" which I interpret as being dismantled.
Not bloody likely say I.
I took it for a top down cruise and gave it some tea and sympathy ;)
Stephb 02-08-2008, 02:06 PM you fed your car tea :-O
you have sun down in bedfordshire at the moment? up here in not so sunny manchester its a bit dull :(
Steph xx
Well, I had the tea. The car got the sympathy.
Lovely day today, brilliant sunshine :D
Stephb 02-08-2008, 02:29 PM Your just showing off that you have your car and the sun :( i think im just going to hide and come back when my car is here :)
Steph xx
Should be anytime now surely as you ordered in November. Mine took a shade under 3 months.
Stephb 02-11-2008, 11:05 AM its built and everything it just has to come over here now :( it feels like forever ive waited! :(
