hi all. just wanted to know if any uk members had any recommendations on which company to get their car insurance from. i got my renewal this morning and the price has nearly doubled from my last car (a people carrier). i know my eos is a prize car but it seems like a hell of a lot to pay for insurance. would appreciate any suggestions. my eos is the 2.0 sport TDI.

I'm just in the process of changing from a Zafira DTi people carrier to an EOS TDi (tomorrow), my insurance has actually come down, staying with the same company it worked out cheaper to cancel the existing policy (renewal date January) and start a new one. Cost is about £230, for myself and wife driving, full no claims, no convictions, living in what they consider to be a "safe" post-code area.

Not sure how much they're sticking it to you in the UK but here in the states, California to be exact, I'm paying $700/year for full coverage. That's with multi-car, good driver, etc. discounts.

I'd be interested to hear what other people are paying. By the way I go through Mercury Insurance.

Hi, try Privilege Car Insurance, My new Eos is a lot cheaper to insure than my old car with them.

Insurance - On my 2.0 TDI sport.
I have 3 years no claims. Not been driving long!
Tesco - £408 and then got £50 back because another member on my family insures with Tesco.
So cost me this year - £358. Good for someone that hasn't got full no claims bonus i thought

Obvisouly this is fully comprensive!

i switched the insurance from the golf to the eos and only had to pay another £81 much less than i thought , we had paid £183 in nov for the golf so only £264 altogether thats with more than and with one accident and a speeding ticket on it

I found Tescos the cheapest (same price as my Passat which I was amazed at).

think i am going to stick with direct line for my insurance although tesco have come back with about the same price. I should be high £300's for mine but that's not too bad - 4 years no claims but my age affects premiums. Privelage wouldn't even do an online quote for me! :eek: they said i had to call and speak to someone! i didn't bother!

Hi, I used to be with direct line until I switched to Privilege a couple of years ago, as they were even cheaper than direct line.
But what really made me chuckle :D :D :D , was that Privilege is under-written by direct line, it says so on the web site and on all my insurance docs.

Thanks everyone will give those companies a try. Im currently with HSBC but they have quoted £600 for me and my husband with over 9 years no claims. I dont think so!

Try the Post Office.

They use Norwich Union and are cheaper than NU direct ,plus you get £50 cash back.

Be sure you compare like with like ie, Protected no claims,continental cover, legal fees. (well worth it I can assure you). and they pay out quick.

The problem is Paul, I'm in N. Ireland, and a lot of companies won't go near us! Despite, would you believe, fewer accidents, and less cars stolen; I think it's from the bad old days, like they don't update their data every 15 years? Or maybe it's just an excuse to charge us more in a captive market, as our banks do.

you're all getting such great prices, I thought I was doing well until now!

I had an 80 pound increase from my golf (about 2 weeks after i re-newed), making it about 440 a yr, 8yrs no claims protected. Was the best deal by far, went to tesco and they wanted 1500!! Would seem that my nice area is a high risk postcode, but tesco took the biscuit!!

I'm insured with Hastings Direct and have been with a number of vehicles. My experiences with them is excellent. Always provide a courtesy car when yours is in for repair. Never any problems with them.

Maybe not the cheapest, but what's the point of having the cheapest if they never pay up!

I ended up with a quote for 560 from Admiral (current insurers with the old car and thought it easier to stay and look round at renewal time - and it was one of the cheaper places for me). Details - 31years old, parked on drive, 9 years no claims. Made sure they'd noted the 18" wheels too - not sure if that put the cost up a bit as well.

Did find that More Than gave me a good price - think it was about 500ish.

Hi all. Just to keep you informed on the insurance costs for my eos. Stayed with HSBC but changed policy to Allianz Cornhill. They have charged 305 pound and included protected no claims and courtesy car. Thanks to all of you for your suggestions.
Hope you get your car soon Lynne it must be driving you nuts all this waiting. It will definately be worth it though!
