Has anyone else read the Sunday Expresss?
There is a review on the EOS (3.2 V6 version) by Nat Barnes which does not do the model any justice at all. I dont think the guy does the model any favours other than comparison with BMW 3 series, Audi A4 or Volvo C70. Perhaps VW is now trying to compete with the bigger boys?

Any one any other comments about the Eos price point comparison?

I saw the review in the paper today and what a jumped up little sh*t that guy is!

As far as i am concerned, the eos is in competition with the 206 / 307cc, megan etc and not BMW & Audi. I would also imagine that since the media pack provided me (BY VW THEMSELVES!!!) compared the eos to the peugeot / renault / volvo that these are also the cars that they think is the eoses competition! He obviously hasn't seen the what car reviews etc where they compare it to this same competition and also ignored the fact that it was awarded best cc!

I agree that ok, you could buy a BMW or many other cars for the same price but in poles these days, the 3-series is almost as popular as the mondeo was in its heyday. We are buying an eos because it is special and not because we are a herd of sheep that want to follow the pack!

I take the guys point that the golf cc was a popular car and he thinks they should have made that again but i just don't think it would work these days! Golfs are lovely but in 2007 I think the motoring world is screaming out for something new, not just a hatchback made with a folding roof like all the other manufacturers do! I wanted the eos exactly for that reason - it's different! it's new! it shows vw are actually putting thought into it and not just going with the norm!

Everyone is entitled to their own opinion and it is good that we don't all like the same thing.........I'm actually glad - this way the eos can stay exclusive!

PS I am getting the red leather and I do not agree with his comments about it! I think it looks lovely and just ads yet another head turning feature to the eos!

Anyway......rant over, I'll shut up now! :D

Rant away, Lynne, I like what you are saying.

Critics feel they must be critics... would seem the more of a rise they get from the public the better they feel.

I know, you are right! They just like to go about ruffling peoples feathers!

Part of the problem is that by the time you put the 3.2 V6 in an EOS it is a seriously expensive car and this means it does get compared to similarly priced cars.

Did they say which BMW they were comparing it with? 3.0 convertible would be the logical one!

I don't believe some of these newspaper "Motoring Writers" have actually driven the car they're writing about sometimes. They just look for other reviews then pick out the bits they fancy. I've read some real rubbish and can't see any relationhsip to the Eos I drive in what they write (e.g. no boot room is a common one; they haven't seen how much I managed to get into mine last summer. Just couldn't fit the kitchen sink in...!)

To be fair the review was done on the top of the range DSG V6 3.2l. I have also read elsewhere that this model is difficult to test. In the auto mode its supposed to be poor but when in semi-auto it is very good. Since I have never tried the 3.2 myself I can't comment. The 2.0TFSI with the manual box is superb, definitely equivalent to a convertible Golf GTI.

I bought the car for being topless and a good performer, mpg is not an issue with me.
