I had a leak of a different kind: the windows stopped returning to the top on locking....but I didn't notice. So, one frosty morning, I threw warm water all over it and...you can guess the rest. I thought it was me having left the door open a bit and thought nothing more about it. The next night it rained for Europe. I sussed it then, as I had a small swimming pool on my lovely leather (still, it made it easier to clean up although still freaked in case I electrocuted myself on the heated seats!!!!):o .
VW said they could take it in as it sounded like a computer reste job. But not for 5 days. When I whinged that this would mean my car effectively being unlocked over that time, and subject to a whole heap more rain, they relented, and were actually great in the end. It went in at 5pm, and they rang me at 8 the next morning to say my baby was fixed. A warranty issue.
I must say this spooked me a bit, so I have become a bit paranoid about watching the windows go up and down on lock/unlock.
Has anyone else had this? Did it recur?

I returned to my car one in the company car park one evening to drive home and found the passenger door window open about 1 inch. I know for sure it had closed completely in the morning as I place my laptop on the passenger seat and get it from that door in the mornings.
Now answer for why, but like you each time I gat out now I am I cannot just walk away, I have to monitor the closing of thw windows.

Quite a few of us have had it happen once or twice. It's something to do with the seals and the window thinking it's hit an object like a hand in the way so comes back down partially.
It's been mentioned on other threads a few times but personally I've had it happen only about 4 times in 2.1/2 years.

Thanks.
Apparently my computer set up had been compromised...so the window was having little non febrile fits. I bacame quite a contortionist over those two days, putting the window up from inside, then climbing over to the pasenger seat to climb out....then locking and hey presto, window went down again to unlocked level.

I have had it occur several times in 18 months of ownweship and as I type this I have a towel jamed in the gap. My dealer advised me today that it is a fault VW regognoise but there is no fix for it! I had intended to keep the car for five years but have decided it will not go through another winter in my ownership. Extreamly disapointing.
I am having same problem with quarter light hitting the roof and then returning halfway down. I have to keep using the switch. Dealer says computer has not registered any faults !! Most frustrating

This has been covered on several previous threads.
It's the window thinking it's hit an obstacle so the safety mechanism sends it half way back down again.
It's usually a seal problem.

The quarter light problem has happened to me a few times but usually it just goes back up if I press the switch again. If you check the seal at the bottom of the window glass you may see that it has folded in and is causing resistance. If so , tease it out and then lubricate it with Krytox............
Hope this helps.
Thanks, I have ordered Krytox and will (weather permitting ) do the seals this week-end, and see hoew it behaves after that.
