I was wondering the same thing myself.

Answering my own question and that of Wanda. Its a rag top

Looks like a rag top due to the small reduction in space in the boot

Looks nice, I wonder what the price difference will be in the Eos and this. The Eos is the top VW price bracket so I would expect the two to be almost the same.

I think the picture makes it look like an old VW astra softop from the rear unfortunately.
How good does the S3 look in the links in the previous posts tho??

I am surprised... the EOS has smoother lines and the Audi didn't copy the hardtop.

I am surprised it isn't a hardtop... Audi really needs it to keep up with Lexus, BMW, Benz, Volvo, Pontiac, Mazda and VW

I wouldn't be surprised to see an Acura soon. Infinity has rumors of a G35 hardtop in the works.

....and Infiniti launch in Europe imminently - even more competition!

Wow that really does nothing for me. The Eos is much more pleasing on the eye.

I didn't consider any other hardtop convertible because I wanted a sunroof also. So the Audi A3 Cabriolet is not for me, plus I love my EOS!

I'm surprised they say the A3 is pitched against "its arch-rival the BMW 3-Series". I would have thought the 3-Series' rival is the A4 and the A3's rival is the 1-series. But what would I know?!

no contest anyway as all A3's are dreadful to ride in
looked into buying one recently and its like driving a skateboard especially in sport trim, every rep i spoke to agreed and said eos was a much smoother ride
i am seriously perplexed at how many are out there
the A4 is a much better ride and priced almost the same, proving how overpriced the A3 is

Must admit that was my main reason for wanting a hard top rather than a soft top as well. The other being that I would be able to see out the rear window.

Looks like a very ugly cousin to me. :o

Our local paper has an advert for a Ford Focus Cabrio, it looks (from the photos) to be a direct rip-off of the Eos, apart from the Focus face. Unfortunately it is a Motability advert, I'd like to see them get a wheelchair in the boot of that car; can't see it unless they have done without the spare wheel.

Cheers,
Pete.

Saw a Focus Cabrio at a dealer the other day - it looks OK till you walk around to the back . . . awful.

The A3 Cabrio is badge engineering, there are people who belive Audi are good cars and would not touch VW/SEAT/Skoda even though they have the same components/systems and can come off the same lines. If they want to be stupid Audi will take their money! The only Audi's we owned were A2s and they are unique!

Ford focus CC, how fat is the rear end? (And the rear seats are supposed to be virtually unusable).

As to the ragtop issues, I've had softtops now for 15 years and never had one "stanley knifed" or ripped in any way. I've had them broken into, but always through the usual way i.e breaking the door locks. After the first year or so of softtop ownership, my paranoia quelled and I just parked them wherever and didn't worry.
Apart from my MG, most have had a decent rear window. Have to admit the plastic window on the MG is shocking to see through, but should be getting a glass windowed hood soon.

After all that, a hard top is WAY better tho:D

Yet 'Autocar' magazine placed it ahead of the Eos in a group test! Perhaps Ford give them more advertising than VW do... They're the only mag not to pick the Eos as winner.

I did consider the Focus until I sat in one with the top down. It suffers as do all the other CC's except the EOS, with the long windscreen.
It's not a problem in coupe mode. But with the top down at 6'2" I found it difficult to get in & out without coming uncomfortably close to the corner of the windscreen.

With the top down in the EOS it has a real convertable (softtop) driving feel. Looking up I see the sky & not just the top of the windscreen.

As a softtop clone of the EOS the A3 I guess will be similar in this respect. But why have a badged clone when the original is better. Perhaps the A3 could be cheaper without the roof but I doubt it. You'll be paying for the badge.

And I reckon the rear of the EOS is way sexier looking than the Focus, especially with the quality badge on the boot lid (trunk for our cousins).

Jim.

I agree with you, for me that's the best looking part of the car:D

Totally agree, doesn't have a fat arse or a windscreen that is like a bus shelter. The Eos has smooth body lines which blend into the wonderfully flaired wheel arches and thankfully isn't available in "Turd Brown:eek: " as the Ford does.

Does Ford stand for "Found On Roadside Dead" or "Fix Or Repair Daily":D

i've heard the ford winning because of the steering controls, and I think a touch more rear seat space...

actually the rear of the Eos sometimes, from certain 3/4 angles when shot with a long lens and, thus, flattening the car, looks like a long torsoed, short legged person... like a dwarf from a circus show or something... wabbling along... Like they kept shortening it with the CAD program but were to lazy to adjust the propirtions!!!

Actually Yankie Doodie Ford leads europe in reliability, with the samurai-happy jap-anse leading as usual, lest they fall on their swords!!
