I would like to send kudos and a big Thank You to those who remove the spam from our site especially the heavy amount we have had lately.

This has been a combined effort by the moderators - we are helped by the fact that we are distributed around the world in various time zones so there is effectively round-the-clock supervision.

Thanks for the comment, it means a lot to us.

Nicely done :)

Since you're using vbulletin, you could change the options to include using the free reCAPTCHA service on signups - that would possibly help?

Unfortunately, this is one for the Adminstrator and not the moderators as we cannot change the vBulletin settings.

My personal experience with controlling SPAM and malicious links is to place new members in a review category whereby their initial posts are placed in suspense pending approval by a moderator - once it is evident the member is genuine, they are granted full posting privileges without further moderator review. More work for the moderators but markedly reduces spam/malicious posts - an occasional nasty will slip through if they are knowledgeable about the forum subject however our intuition usually alerts us to this type of member from reading their benign posts.

I was up early at the weekend and caught the BBC technology program. They were talking about CAPTCHA and how clever software can break it and then the new type that is more difficult. What got me was these Spammers actually advertise for people so sit down all night and manually regsiter, thus breaking any CAPTCHA. It looks like Spam is here to stay and as you say is thanks to the vigilant moderators to dump it.
