Does anyone have an image of where the jack is supposed to be placed when changing a tire? I have small dimpled dents on the front and back of the lower side panels of my new EOS. They are not consistently placed or sized. I believe these are dents (that happend in transit) and not purposeful indentation for the jack placement, as my dealer is trying to convince me. I can't believe that any manufacturer would suggest that the head of the jack be placed on a visible and painted surface. Can anyone lend some insight? Thanks.

I have the same dimples.

I don't believe the jack is placed on that part of the bodywork, but the dimples serve as an indication of where the jack needs to be. ie. on the chassis behind aforementioned dimples.

At least, that's what I thought....

Sorry I don't have a picture to share, but the correct jack points aren't too hard to locate. The four triangular dimples on the rocker panels indicate where to locate your factory jack on the "pinch weld", which is further underneath the car. The "pinch weld" is an inch or so high lip running from the front wheel well to the rear rear well. The lip and adjacent structure is reinforced at the same fore/aft location as the dimples.

The top of the factory emergency jack is U-shaped, and the lip fits in it neatly and securely.

The dealer was correct, but he should have showed you the actual jack points a few inches further under the car. Put the jack on the rocker panel dimples and you'll be looking at an expensive repair.

This type of jack point is unfortunately quite common in newer unibody cars like the Eos. If you want to use a sturdier floor jack instead of the VW emergency jack, you have to be careful you don't bend the pinch weld. I've ordered the following jack pad so I can use my floor jack and not have to fool with getting the emergency jack out of the car:
