I have an 08 Lux and would like to put studded snow tires on it this winter. I live in Maine and have used studded tires on my other vehicles and hate to give them up. There is no way my 17" rims will have enough clearance to accomodate those kind of tires. Can I go to a smaller rim, and if so what size?
Really appreciate the help.

You shouldnt have problems with studded tires, get the same exact size as your current ones and they will not be any larger. Im not a total noob to studs, i live in Fairbanks Alaska, 90% of cars on the road in the winter here have studs. another good alternative is Bridgstone Blizzaks, they are studless and have performance on snow and ice close to good studded tires.
Good luck

Standard rim size is 16" so reckon they would fit any Eos.
Over here it's only Sport models that get 17" or even 18" Chicago alloys (or at least it was when I bought mine).

Studded tyres of the same rolling circumference should be OK but I would not want to use anything wider than a 205.
The UK handbook allows snow-chains to be used on the front only. And only with 205 tyres. (205/55R16" on a 6.5J rim with 42mm offset or 205/50R17" on a 6J rim with 45mm offset).

16' wheels with studded tires work great for my car up here in the snow belt!
