as i have been seeing throughout the forum, some members have other cars other than the EOS. so here is a place where, if in other countries that have different models that other countries dont get, like the Ford Falcon in austrailia, (no fair for us USA folks), no matter how boring they may be, lets see them! ill start off by posting the truck and the 'Jap Crap' and my only VW for now. oh and a pic of my former show car i never should have sold...:(

My other regular drive is my Mazda Bongo Friendee camper van. Bought it after I realised my Model gliders would not fit that well in the Eos and besides IMHO you cannot haul your bikes or trailer with an Eos - but for this thread lets not go there :D You can also make a cuppa, bacon sandwich or a pot noodle with ease in it.

It is fully converted, sleeps 4 and has diesel heating and 4x4 which is good at the moment.

Bit of an expensive model glider carrier but you only live once so they say.....

Here's a semi-blurry picture of my Dakota and CRX, courtesy of Google Street View. Google's photo van must have driven by before my wife got home from work in the Eos.

Well, I convinced the good lady wife that we needed another car to teach the boys to drive, as both the Eos and her (Australia only) Ford Territory were automatic and the boys needed to learn to drive in a manual.

In reality, the '97 Forester we bought was perfect for a learner driver (unpainted bumpers and cladding, AWD, ABS, Dual airbags, strong structure), but also great for me when I go bushwalking, as I can do 3-400km on dirt roads between the start and finish of a 3-4 day walk with all sorts of nasty road conditions.

The real question now is how long I get to keep it, once the boys have licences and their own cars?

From personal experience - about 2 nanoseconds and forget about them buying their own cars if a family car is available. Some rules to consider:

1. The car must return home with a full tank of fuel.
2. All users are responsible for an equal share of registration, insurance and routine maintenance costs once they leave school.
3. You damage it - you fix it at your expense.
4. Refer rule 3.

Current vehicles are an embarassment due to current constraints :(:

1993 Toyota 4Runner 4WD diesel [360,000+ KM] - a genuine "road warrior" also used for beach and bush bashing.

1988 Holden [GM] Barina [rebadged Suzuki Swift] - "shopping trolley" and alternative to Eos if safe parking facilities are not available [details about local delinquency and poor driving skills would contravene our anti-discrimination laws].

Ah David, you misunderstand my question.

When I go bush, I take the Forester, although underpowered, it performs well above its perceived status in regards to road holding, ride and rough road ability.

My question is - how long will the good lady wife let me keep it, once it is not needed by no. 1 and no. 2 sons, given that I also have the Eos?

Oh yes I did - what I was hinting at was your sons exploiting their mother's affection for them to ensure the Forester remains in the family despite it supposedly being an extravagance for you. Been there, experienced that :).

You mightn't win a one-on-one discussion about keeping your second car - a family discussion about having a back-up vehicle which just happens to be available for your sons to use instead of your Eos will have a different outcome.

Another consideration, today's children leave home a lot later than we did - your sons may be around a lot longer than you expect :D:D.

My partner and I have a 2001 Hyandai Santa Fe which is perfect in the crap weather we have at the moment although we initially bought it to drive to our walking holiday routes, sometimes off road etc. I love it maybe a little bit more than my Eos right now I have to say!

We have a 2002 Passat with nearly 200,000 miles on the clock. We've had it since new and it's brilliant. My Eos is of course perfect (and drove really well in the snow - no problems there). We also have an old Landrover and three tractors!!

I have a 2009 Mondeo as my company car. Not impressed with its handling on snow and ice, Eos's traction control and ABS is far superior. Unfortunately the same cannot be said of fuel economy - Eos 25 mpg - Mondeo 50 mpg!! Both probably better than a tractor though CIB!!!

Ah but what an exhaust note when the top is down I;m sure that makes up for the loss somewhat.

You are absolutely right Graham, it sounds marvellous in Sport mode with top down! mpg comparison for info only, if I was bothered about the economy of the Eos I would have gone for a TDi which from looking at the forum can get close to the Mondeo as well.

Mine's a VW 1302 Cabrio which is currently off the road at the moment as she has blown the oil seal between engine & gearbox, making her clutch a wee bit slippy. Top goes up & down quicker than an Eos's! Hope to get her back next week although there's no rush while this weather persists.

wow - a 1032! I know of a '58 model, LHD for sale in Australia for 8800 - for the wreck. Very nice.

My daily driver is a Caddy TDI Camper, thinking of changing it to an Octavia vRS wagon. Our fun cars are the 2 beetles (76 and 56) - very reliable, easy to fix, really good fun on the skid pan

my car is a 1990 mazda 323f. Just having it for fun. Has no APK (dutch MOT) but is real fun to drive. The brakes are a bit bad, and i don't have front springs, just shocks! And has loads of other problems. But i'm driving it till it falls apart. going 80 mph over speedbumps is real fun! and doing burnouts everywhere! I think it will be demolished in about 2 weeks

'06 Jeep Commander Limited. Only has 12000 miles on it so it doesn't move that much. Mainly for boat/trailer pulling and skiing trips with ice/snow on the road or in the forecast.
