Clutch started to slip... Dealer had the car for 1 week and the verdict is: hole in the gearbox which let all the oil in the box to flow into the clutch. So clutch and gearbox are done for. Car is 2006 model and has done 57 000 km. THANK GOD I have dealers warranty for 1 months remaining... So now it will only take couple of weeks but at the end I will have a car wih a new clutch an a gearbox :)

No idea of the reason. Currently dealer is looking into how long it takes to get replacement parts.

To my knowledge the gearbox has been take out before. Previous owner had some trouble with the top, but that is to be expected as the car if from the first model year. There are always some niggles to be sorted out before new model is sorted. Thank God for the warranty.

Got the car back from the dealer. New gearbox and new internals for the clutch. Eos had acquired a nasty dent on the side during dealer visit. AND I got only 3km from the dealer and the clutch stopped working again.

This is the last drop, when dealer gets the car going again (hopefully they do)
it is gone. Mercedes C-class or BMW 3-series might be more reliable AND equally fun cars... My first AND last VW. Dealer given nice service, but they are almost impossible to get hold of by phone and quality of the work (and th car) is beginning to give me serious doubts. Eos is a fabulous car and I love it WHEN it is working... Very sad to see it go, but go it must.

IMHO you just have a lemon. My business partner is BMW fan. His 545 BMW give him nothing, but trouble. He rid of it at 95K and get another 5 series one with 40K on speedo. At 60K he has to replace gearbox. All this story about exceptional quality of Mercs and BMWs is just that - stories. Those expensive cars always looked after, proper serviced and never been trashed. This is where their "reliability" came from. From other hand I have Toyota Landcruiser 80 series. Crossed desert, mountains and beaches. It has numerous of dents and scratches and aircon smells like sh!t. But!!! 310K and never miss a bit despite very hard life. This is what I call reliability.
Cheers
