Well, today I put the foot down and got the Eos up to 100+mph for a short time. The handling was superb and getting there was very easy and it felt like only 70mph.

A big improvement on my 197PS Toyota Corolla (both 140mph cars)

Any one pushed it to the limit?

Was that top up or down? Cruised down the M4 at 90mph tonight, top down, which was invigorating!!!!! I'm anticipating sunnier weather - when it comes that top won't see it as it will be safely tucked into the boot!

Anyone pushed it to the limit yet? On a German autobahn legally of course!

Well done, Sir .... I assume this was a "top up" EDA? I haven't had the nerve to try since my Lexus SC400 which I got up to 260 kph (160mh); however, I did get pulled over last week for speeding on a country road ... was clocked at 115 kph in an 80 zone. Was very polite to the officer who was intrigued by the car and gave him full demonstration including top up/top down. The result ... muchly reduced fine! Think I will restrict my experiments in future to mileage economy!

Pushed mine up to 110mph a couple of weeks back, top down, both wind deflectors up and the windows up, 8 degrees heater on, felt really smooth and effortless and not at all cold or windy in the car.

The top was up at the time. Still need to try it top down,but I have done like you 90mph with top down, but it was very blustery at the time and not all that great an experience. Perhaps when it gets a bit warmer as you said.

105 with the roof down, windows up but no wind baffles on. I don't like the back seat wind baffle frankly. It felt good at 105, I have been at 105 with the roof up as well. This car feels really good at those speeds, which is a bad thing. I tend to drive by feel and my old Durango would start to feel bad at about 75mph, my wifes Toyota Highlander feels bad at about 90mph, but this car never feels bad. I was driving south on I-95 a few weeks ago and was not paying attention to the speedometer, I knew I was passing cars and happened to look down and realized that I was going 105...I now tend to set the cruise control. The high speed warning deal is not very obvious.

Yea, I totally agree. The reason I topped 100mph was in a similar situation, not really gunning it but it slips up and up very easily if you are not careful and watching the speedo.

I agree ... the speed does slip up on you! That's how I got my ticket last week; even after the "event" I found the car snaeking up unless I consciously forced myself to check the speed. And it did not feel fast, which contributes to the issue!

I was a member of another car enthusiasts forum a while back and several members got traced and threatened with prosecution in the UK. In fact, I seem to remember that one person did actually get taken to court.

Probably best to talk about it in the third person. Anyway, whilst we are on the subject, I know somebody that this weekend took a 2.0 TFSI Eos up to 140mph +

Excellent point, Gavin! Seems EZ enough to get into trouble without advertising it! Personally, I NEVER intentionally exceed the limit, just watch others around me do it!

It's so easy to let the speed creep up on it, quite glad i've got the cruise control and the warning beeper. Obviously I have the warning beep set to 70mph!!:D :eek: :D

I have the same feature, but for some reason it does not want to activate unless the speed exceeds a ridiculously high number ... around 130 kph, and is referred to in the manual as "winter tire warning". Anybody else experience this?

Good to hear you folks trying out your EOS s for speed, I enjoy my eos at any speed even slow speeds as its such a pleasure to drive and the cruise is a deffinite licence saver. Any high speed stuff,I save for my my bike , a VFR 800 vtec ! enjoy either way and of course by high speed I mean up to
70mph !

On the subject of top speeds etc, I submitted this a while ago

I have watched the instant MPG whilst on the autobahn and giving it big licks I managed about 18mpg at about 135mph. When I tried this in my old Golf GTi Mk5, I achieved 12mpg at 150 mph. (O how I miss the British motorway sysyem.....Not). The main thing is you enjoy the car you have worked hard to get.

I hope nobody gets all health and safety on me, as this is quite normal in Germany, and all "Quality cars:cool: " are able to go fast all day (it's what ya pays ya money for). Also there arn't any middle lanes on the autobahn so Micra's and BMW's have to use the inside lane

As for roof up or down, I didn't realise we were allowed to drive about with the roof on. I thought the roof was there to keep bird poo off the seats when parked:D . The rain does come in over the side windows for about 70mph onwards though.:o

Sorry for the delay in replying .. just noticed your comment. As with a lot of other "different twists" seems it is programmed here as a winter tire warning, so only activates at very high speed.

You are right that the warning can be used for snow tyres (mine are T rated 113MPH if I remember) but you can change it for whatever you want. When I go to England I set it for about 85 or 90 MPH so I don't attract the attention of the Fed's, Fuzz, Old Bill :D etc.

I find the Eos a spirited drive, pretty good on twisty bits and very pleasant to drive at speed, say on the motorway.

It has been driven flat out on a good number of occasions and I have found it surprisingly well behaved and quiet (roof up) at around 120 mph but there are still pillocks ready and willing to pull out in front of you even on the autobahn. Economy suffers of course and I would say that it is not as impressive at high speed cruising as the CLS 320 we has before. This had excellant consumption figures for ton plus cruising but then so it should.

Top down we've found the Eos to be pretty good, wind stop in place, stereo up a bit and a sedate cruise at about 80 was practical. Above that and things got a bit too noisy for pleasure.

Still, it wasn't bought for high speed thrashing, it was bought for pleasure driving. ;):)

The EOS is fun as a leisure drive, high speed's ok but not entirely stable, at least to me. Had tried with top up close to 260km/h, topless 220km/h. Funny thing is, I actually enjoy driving it topless @ high speed than top up, esp with the wind deflectors and windows up, the sheer feel of wind's good.

The EOS stability's not as good as the Golf GTI MK V tho, I dun get the same confidence of it in my EOS, but for a convertible, its good enough :D

My experience of high speed top down driving in convertibles [not, as yet, in an Eos] is that the wind buffeting moves your body such that you think the car is unstable when, in fact, it is not. Blame this on inertia reel seatbelts which do not hold your body firmly in place. Putting the roof up with the windows closed immediately makes the car appear more stable by eliminating the buffeting - if you leave the windows down, the wind buffeting remains to varying degrees depending on the car.

Tortoise - I suggest this may be the explanation for your experience.

After posting the above, I read a news item in our motoring press about the new M-B E type cabrio [I am sure Jaguar will not be amused as the creator of the original E type which is still one of the most sensual car designs ever created - pity about the sacrilileges that occurred later in its life].

M-B are doing a big "song & dance" about their new wind deflector and how it significantly reduces wind buffeting especially for rear seat passengers. I doubt if this can be patented as a similar design was used years ago here in Australia to keep the rear window of station waggons [estate cars for our UK readers] free from dust on dirt roads.

It will be interesting to see how long it takes the after-market specialists to market a clone for other cabrios including the Eos.

nope, along the North South Highway, in Malaysia. Singapore has such stretches for the run but if caught, the license is gone for a long time :D

i can ask a few guys locally to get the speed filmed in the process. if u have a K04-spec EOS, it aint an issue. The K03 can do the same job, likewise for a GTI that can do around 270 or so.

Whats the speed u guys achieve over @ your places?

Have a look @ this video. This is my fren's EOS, had a change of speedo to a GTI 300km/h piece, u r seeing the needle is hitting that top speed that equates to 260km/h or more :D

Hard to eliminate camera shake at that speed especially when leaning over trying to film from the passenger's seat. Would be a great video if you could clamp the camera to the driver's side rear window glass with the zoom set to cover both the speedo and some of the road ahead.

Usual warning about ensuring you cannot be identified from the video before posting ;):D.

If I happen to try that speed again, will be doing a video clamp thru my headrest instead, will update u guys :D

This video is just to clear any airs that the top speed of the EOS can hit 260km/h given the right roads.

BUT seriously, I'll keep to usual 220kmn/h, thats my comfortable zone :D
