....it combines the worst of all worlds -- a retractable hard top along with the old family face sporting a chrome grille and teardrop headlamps....
I couldn't disagree more. The CSC top is amazing as we all know. NO other convertible has a sunroof! C'mon guys! The plain horizontal grille of the new front end is just boring! I wonder if they'd knock it so much if it wore the 4 interlocking rings...

So the writer just put down all MKV cars (large chrome front), passat owners with their teardrop headlights and what's with the dislike for hardtop convertibles?? That's the best feature and 1000x better than a ragtop. Clearly, the guy dislikes VW. His opinion is just that.

If you check out the above statement, it comes fro VW. I thought the writer was for the most part non biased. I hate to see the Eos we have go away. Eventually the replacement will have a lot of what we have complained about that being all wheel drive and more powerful drivetrains. VW interiors are nice but so are Audi. The Car looks less distintive but the driveability should be pretty good. I would consider one if no one offered a hardtop convertible. Would also consider the BMW 3 series if it were the only hardtop convertible. Also like the new Beetle. I think Scirocco should be dumped and the Beetle with all the goodies from the GTI inserted in the lineup. And eventually the Beetle gets rear wheel drive and a Boxer engine.

I like the teardrop headlights. I've gotten used to the chrome front end. (I like the painted out version displayed on http://www.vweosclub.com/forums/showthread.php?t=3289.) The thread shown in Automobile link looks more like the new Jetta. Hopefully it won't get the new Jetta's inexpensive rear suspension.
I wonder whether we are going to see a trend away from folding hardtops in the years ahead. They add significantly to the cost. They are more complex (thus far, the cars are new enough not to be suffering maladies); and they weigh more, with the weight increasing the height of the cars center of gravity when the top is stored. There's also the matter of trunk space. But I like them. This is my sixth convertible. The C pillar is smaller and provided better visability. It's more secure, and the the Eos's sunroof rocks, but I'm preaching to the choir, right?
I think the Eos two section roof trumps all other four seat convertibles. BMW does a good job in making their convertible look so similar to the 3 series coupe, but the trunk has been extended and has different styling.
I'm glad to hear the Eos will be around through 2013. I like the car enough to consider getting another by the time production ends. We'll have to see what the facelift looks like though, the are rarely an improvement over the orginal. Hopefully they won't just graph on a MKVI front end the way they've done to get extra longevity out of the Jetta wagon.
