My TDi is approaching this mileage, what warning did you get that there was a problem please?

Hiya topless
The fault started as a rattling noise from the clutch/gear box area.
Very noticable at tickover, almost like leaving a washing machine ball
in your tumble dyer and letting it spin.
It can be intermittent though.
Too be fare the VW Tech knew what it was straight away and got it
booked in but I haven`t seen it for a week now which hasn`t impressed
me.Surpise suprise I was told they are virtually bomb proof and this doesn`t
normally happen so its probably just mine!!

Make sure they fix whatever caused it in the first place:
- bolts that hold the fly wheel to the crank shaft should be checked and tightened to the correct torque (maybe that was the problem??)
- clutch where it's mounted onto the fly wheel could be badly aligned
- could be the pilot bearing in the centre of the fly wheel
(Don't I sound knowledgeable? Thank you husband! :))
Hope you get your car back soon

Hi this is quite a common problem on dual mass flywheels, the spring that smooths out the take up from the clutch gets week and causes both parts of the flywheel to rattle. Two cures anew D M F/W or a solid(cheaper alternative now sold ass an optional replacement kit) flywheel. The later type can be a bit fierce on clutch take up. Hope this helps
