These look like the doors used by BMW on the Z1, looks great on that but not so sure about the average saloon

Those cars looked pretty good to me.

Cool idea. Can't think of a reason not to have it, except maybe for elderly people who rely on the door as a "support" to get them in/out of the car. Even if the door is damaged (car bumps it, someone kicks it, etc.... I would think it would still open without getting caught or hung up on something.

As much as it looks like a great party trick to go with the Eos' folding roof, there are two fundamental problems:

The doors have fairly major structural beams in them to keep you safe in an accident, you would loose these with this sort of door.

Convertibles have more flex in the chassis due to the lack of a roof providing stiffness. Take away the doors, and you would seriously affect the Eos' handling.

In other words, its an interesting mod, but only do it if you don't plan to drive your Eos.

Now thats Cool ! I hope they have that as standard doors in cars when I am old and arthritic ! ;)
