When do you have your top down? Just sunny days? What about muggy cloudy days?

I was in a quandary driving home tonight as it was by no way sunny. In fact it was (and is) thick thick cloud but very warm... 20.5 on the thermometer (don't gloat you Californians :p ! - that is WARM for Wigan:D ). I ended up driving home with the lid on.

Do you put your top down in anything except rain and /or cold?

I have the top down mainly when sunny and dry. But if is been like recent weather of overcast, grey, windy and warm, I just keep the top up and switch on A/C. Never had it down in the winter but did only once in the autum but it was novelty then.

But its up to individual taste. Happy EDAs

Even when the weather is a little "nippy" (above 10 Celsius, or 50 Fahrenheit) I love to put the top down. The dual climate control and windbloch keep me toast warm even in these conditions. Top goes up below these temps, when it is raining, or if it is really damp out. If I waited for perfect weather, I would miss half the fun! Today, it's 28 Celsius (mid 80's) and sunny; so, for sure, it's top down time!

Well for the last week I've had the top down - it has been about 12C in the morning, but so long as sunny-ish, down she comes. The heated seats are essential, and aircon on full temp and blower on full all help! The novelty may wear off, and I don't see any other convertibles with roof down at these temps, but its great!!!

Today though, 25C and full sun - baseball cap on, shades on, TOTALLY enjoyable drive. The Dynaudio sounds better to me roof down than roof up!!

A couple of times this week it's been cloudy and grey but temp somewhere between 17 and 22 - still had the lid down :)

Puzzles me the amount of convertibles in general I see with the roof up even when the temperature is decent - might have to start taking the sunblock to work with me though :)

One thing I did notice when stuck in a jam is a few folk with their stereos blaring out music (not that I'm against loud music) - just hoped no one thought it was me!! :)

Whenever it's not raining. Summer or Winter ( been driving drop-heads since the early 70s). :D

You might want to check the specs for minimum temperature for dropping the top. I know most converts must be above a certain temp in order not to damage seals. I think Eos is 5-degrees F.

My first car over 40 years ago was a 1964 Austin Healey Sprite. As long as it wasn't raining it was top down all year round as long as it was above zero C. Just used to have a warm jacket & a hat to cover the ears & gloves. Heaters were not as good in those days, but as long as my feet were warm I was happy. Living in the Thames Valley the winters were generally reasonably mild.

I intend to have the top down as often as possible. As long as the interior doesn't get damage from rain.
Of course it does get pretty hot (up to 40C) in Provence so may then have to have top-up & panorama open with full A/C.

Can't see the point in having a convertible if you don't use.

Dean has a valid point, however on a glorious winters day when it's frosty and the sun is shining brightly I can't resist putting the roof down, donning a woolly hat, cranking the seat heater to 5 (thats an endurance test in the summer (see below)) and switching the heater to Nuclear reactor hot. I've done it in the snow too (O er missus!!:D ).

Driving about on a hot day with a mate of mine, he thought it would be funny to switch my seat heater to 5 when I wasn't looking:eek: .

It doesn't often drop below 5F in the UK.. Think it did once in 1867!

I find it doesn't need to be sunny - just warm. Have had the top down on at least 1 occasion every single month since I bought the car in July 06. It's very pleasant on a sunny January day with the heater on!

It always annoyed me seeing droptops on sunny summer days with the roof up when I hadn't got one but now I have one I can see maybe why.

Here are some possible reasons:
1) Wife in car who doesn't like convertibles (e.g. mine)
2) Shopping in boot precluding dropping top.
3) Very short journey so it's not worth it.
4) Driving in city centre and don't want pillock chucking a fag end in.
5) Driving into city centre and don't want to look a pillock closing the roof!

Er, 5F is equivalent to -15C - despite being a hardy 'viking' from the NE I doubt I'll be dropping the top at that temperature!!!

And Paj - I have a mate who has done the same. Very puerile! And all because I did it to him first!!! He must have an asbestos derriere as it failed to scorch him. Mrs Smoggy hasn't found it funny though and I'm on an official 'warning' from her not to mess about with her seat temperature!!!!!!!!!

At least someone is realistic, it's only a car and you have highlighted the shortcomings of any drop top.
