: Tinted Windows
ladyvdub 05-27-2007, 06:54 PM I'll be getting my EOS first week of June. The question I've been contemplating about is whether to tint the windows. I understand it may look a bit weird when the roof top is down and the windows are up (when tinted). I'm from Toronto, so for half of the year, the roof top will be up...in which case, tinting the windows will look "ok". But for the other half of the year, when the roof top is down...driving around with the windows (tinted) still up may look a little bit......ugly.
What is everyone's opinion about tinted windows for the EOS (or any convertibles for that matter). How about light tints?

If you go to VWVortex forum EOS section, you'll see quite a few pics of tinted windows ... think it is a personal preference, one way or the other!
karend 06-01-2007, 09:21 AM Hi
I'd say no. I just don't think it would look good at all on the EOS as it is a car all about visibility. It would look very odd when the roof was down and I've found that on those sunny but not hot days, the windows up are a necessity!
I've had tinted windows in my GTis and we have them in the Touareg too but I just don't think the EOS needs tehm.
Each to her own though :) If you like the look.....

YES PUT TINT ON LIGHT OR DARK:cool:
I must disagree, tint is a personal choice, and also a geographical choice. I live in Las Vegas Nv and the darker tint is a comfort issue in the desert. I never even considered tinted windows prior to living in the desert.
But now I wouldn't want a car without tint, I like the privacy, plus you can always just put the windows down. A win win situation.
Also EOS looks great top down windows up, as the driver you get some privacy, plus still the convertible experience
davidp 06-02-2007, 10:23 PM Well we dont get much desert here in the UK so take your point about keeping the sun out.
Who knows with global warming we may all be in the desert soon :)
Cheers, David

what level of tint do you have on your windows?
Zazou 06-03-2007, 03:43 PM I live in Jax Beach and it does get hot here... I tinted my windows with 35% tint and I can definitely tell a difference. The added bonus is that the tint looks great on my black EOS. The dealer would go to a 15% tint, but that is illegal here in the state of Florida, even though the police cars here use that percentage... Go figure...
lilj1969 06-03-2007, 08:53 PM what level of tint do you have on your windows?
Purchased my EOS with tint already on from dealer, listed as DESERT WINDOW TINT PACKAGE, no percentage was given. I would say about 15% if I compare to my prior car.
ladyvdub 06-04-2007, 11:27 PM lilj1969, do you have pictures with the roof down and windows up? It would be great if Zazou has some pictures to show too. I've got a silver EOS with black seats...so trying to do a bit of "picture research" before reaching a final decision.
BTW, lilJ1969....I was going to choose WHITE, it's a HOT colour!...cept, because of the lack of supply here in the Canadian market, they didn't have the white in my area at the time when i ordered my EOS...and I certainly couldn't wait until late '07 for it to come, so i settled with the silver.

I do not have any pix, top down, windows up, personnally tint or no tint I don't like convertibles with top down window's up. Only time put windows up is when someone with long hair complains amount the wind (ex-wife mostly) maybe that's why she's my ex :Dhahahaha:D .
I will try to get some pix posted by the weekend, I'm always happy to help
Zazou 06-05-2007, 11:13 AM I will try and get some pics up also. We had that tropical storm over the weekend with storms so far every day this week.. I will post them this weekend (of course after my baby gets her bath)...:D

Pix, top down windows up, background not to great. We were just out having some fun, so I snapped a couple quick shots.
Hope this help's with decision to tint or not tint.
ladyvdub 06-10-2007, 05:55 PM Thanks LilJ1959 for the quick pictures! It really helps. I think i will go with light tints on those rare occasions where I must use the windows. Greatly appreciated!

Congatulations Hugh ... look forward to pictures and details. Cheers!
gounta 06-16-2007, 03:09 AM Ive got a silver essence Eos on order and currently have tinted windows ordered to go on it, if anyone out there has a silver Eos with tinted windows can I ask a huge favour and ask you to post some photos on this thread with the roof down, windows up? There are next to no Eos' driving around Melbourne (Australia) so I'm relying totally on the internet to see some pics. Thanks
ladyvdub 06-16-2007, 03:30 AM My EOS is silver and that's what i've been researching on too...i've got an idea now that a few helpful users have provided some pics...will definately go with light tints in the coming weeks.

Hi There,
When you do get it done, can you provide me some details. I'm considering doing it, but there is nobody up here that I know about! Hope you are enjoynig the new car .... great weekend!
Hugh Jass 06-22-2007, 04:59 AM Finally got some photos done. Here is my Eos with the windows tinted as of June 9/07. I went with the lightest tint on the front and slightly darker on the rear windows and back window.

I threw the last one in there cause I thought it showed the color of my Eos very nicely!
ladyvdub 06-22-2007, 05:19 AM I;ll see which shop i end up at? Collingwood shouldnt be too long of a drive to TO right? Then again, i'm from Mississauga. Will keep u posted.
ladyvdub 06-22-2007, 05:20 AM HUGH JASS - what are the %'s..?
Looking good!
schoolhousefred 06-22-2007, 05:54 AM I'm from Collingwood now, but lived in Mississauga for more years than I care to admit ..... Highway 10 and Queen E district, south of Queen E. As a matter of fact drove down there tonight and back for wedding shower for my son at condos at corner of Lakeshore and Hurontario. Good luck in your hunt for tinter ... guess there are some in Erin Mills Parkway area where all the dealers are?
Hugh Jass 06-26-2007, 05:14 PM ladyvdub,
the percentage tint used was 50% on front windows and 28% on two rear and back windows.
gounta 08-20-2007, 10:23 PM Hi everyone, sorry for bringing up an old thread, but I was just wondering if there have been any silver Eos purchases recently and if anyone with a silver Eos has tinted windows? If so, would you mind posting a pic of your car with the roof off and windows up? Im keen to see what this looks like. Thanks
DaveyW 08-21-2007, 01:51 AM Hey there gounta,
Id like to see any pics of the silver essence with tinted windows too.
If you get hold of them - absolutley love to see them.
I'd seriously consider tinting mine when it arrives - I think the a darker window against the siver exterior would contrast really nicely.
gounta 08-21-2007, 10:15 PM Yes, hopefully someone can help us out with some pics!!
Pepino 08-22-2007, 04:17 PM What is the cost of window tinting these days? I have never tinted my vehicle's windows.
Zazou 08-22-2007, 10:05 PM I paid about 145.00 here in Jax... Believe me, it is worth it!!!!!!
DaveyW 08-22-2007, 11:08 PM Hey there Pepino & Zazou...
I guess the thing to say about that is , that in Sydney in summer it absolutley scorches in summer - something in the 40+ celcius isnt unheard of.
I think thats about round the 110 farenheit for you guys?
(Gounta in Melbourne would get really hot temps too)
Anyway, point being is window tinting is almost a necessity when your car is out in the sun, windows up etc- different if the roofs down though!
The Co's that perform the tinting know full well about this, and charge accordingly in Sydney :(
Because the Eos isnt a big car, Im thinking that a dark tint is going to give the car an even smaller appearance from the exterior, still interested in seeing pics of a Silver color with tint on it though & maybe if someone can give the % they tinted it to... that would be brilliant
Thanks guys!
Pepino 08-23-2007, 11:55 AM Thanks for the info Davey,
It has been 38 - 40C here in Georgia (100 - 108F) depending on the altitude, but it is outright miserable in my car when I leave work. We hit a new record for August with most days above 100F this year and we still have another week of the month.
I was wondering how odd / silly / nice / whatever my car would look with black car with black windows - especially when the top is down and the windows up? The white looks ok (pics from earlier in this thread) but I am curious of black - black combo.
For those of you that have tinted your Eos, do you also tint the rear window? I know it is illegal to tint the front (obviously). But I didn't know if all we need to do is tint the four side windows?
Zazou 08-23-2007, 08:51 PM Hi Pepino,
I have a black 3.2 and have all windows, except the front, tinted in 35%. Here in Florida it is legal to have the front windows at 35% and the rest 50% including the back. I wanted uniformity in the color. I do know that the back window was worth the $145.00 because they had a really hard time getting to it. I am just glad they quoted me the price before they started working on it!! I will try and get some pics this weekend with the top down and the windows rolled up... I think it really looks good!
sangus 08-23-2007, 09:56 PM In Spain only rear windows are allowed, I have ordered my eos tinted, I prefer a little bit of privacity with the roof up :D

gounta 08-23-2007, 10:30 PM Hi Pepino, a friend of mine has a black Renault convertible with tinted windows and it looks great with the roof off, windows up. the tint blends very well with the black body. My concern with getting a silver Eos with tint is that the windows are going to stand out and look odd with the roof off. Hopefully someone can post a pic of a silver Eos with tint and my concerns can be squashed!
Pepino 08-24-2007, 11:32 AM Thank you all for your replies...
Gounta, I would assume that a silver Eos would look somewhat similar to the white with tint. It would be contrasting like the white, but it still has the cool privacy factor.
hope it works out and you can find some pics...
