As with any extended warranty, you pay your money and take your chance.

If you pay for the extended warranty and have no need to claim on it, or claim a lower value than what you pay in, then you've lost. :( If, on the other hand, you pay the money and have to make a big claim, you're a winner. :D Then again, if you keep the money and have no problems or small cheap ones, then you've won. If you don't pay the money and have a repair bill more than the extended warranty, then you've lost. It's certainly a quandary.

Just remember, given the general reliability of modern machinery the majority of people who do take extended warranties out on anything, from cars to white goods, end up being net losers. If you want peace of mind, then get it. You have to remember that most extended warranties aren't offered out of the kindness of their hearts or at a financial loss to the company offering them, they want to make a profit on them. They know that the majority of extended warranties either won't be claimed on or have claims to less than the purchase value of the warranty - with just the odd one being claimed on to a value greater than the price of the warranty.

I've never got an extended warranty on anything and, touch wood, have never been out of pocket because of it. :)

My 08' EOS had 25,000 miles and was sold as a certified car. I purchased the extended warranty for $2500.00 dollars. I'm now covered for 5 years, or 85,000 miles. I plan on keeping the EOS, so the peace of mind to me was worth it. Mostly to cover the beautiful but very complicated roof. But to each his own.

The dealers and the company behind them covering the extended warranty both make substantial profits from the sale of extended warranty (much higher than normal car insurance or life insurance etc) - therefore odds are you are better off not to take it - put the $2500 in the bank just in case and then blow it on something else when the time is up IMHO

I got the extended warranty on my EOS for 3 years.

Depends if you are planning to keep it for more that 3 years then it is worth it.

The roof has so many moving parts so would cost a lot out of warranty to fix.

I had to get a part fixed on my Passat and had extended warranty, would have cost me $1200 without it.

It would be very helpful if those who have purchased the VW EOS official extended warranty could let us know which dealer they used, with contact names/numbers, and the price paid. There is a considerable mark-up on it, with corresponding variation in discount [or not!], for the same full Allianz policy bought from any VW dealer, perhaps even in another state. Others on general VW forums have discussed this subject, just not specifically for the EOS, which is of course our particular area of interest.

The topic is certainly of vital interest to many, as the cost of a moderate repair to a car as complicated as ours would not be cheap. The dreaded DSG flash is but one area of concern to me, never mind the roof, which few outside of the dealer network will have much familiarity with. Of course if you have modified the car you may well have invalidated the official VW warranty anyway, so you are on your own.

This might even be considered as a sticky, to aid access, if the mods concur.

Here is a tip visit vwwatercooled forums and search for extended warranty thread. There is a VW REP on there that gives very cheap prices for the warranty.

That's precisely the site, amongst others, I was referring to slimer. As I said above, the info is available on other forums, just not for the particular EOS. A warranty for another model will be another price.

I have purchased an extended warranty at substantially less than $3000. If any other Victorian EOS owners want to know, please send me a private message and I'll give you the heads up. Just in case the dealers read these forums, don't want to give away anything ;)

PS I've PM'd craigky my tip.
