Just taken the car in to VW to have the seals checked as it's leaking. Out of Warranty now and they've come up with a bill for £2700! VW goodwill taken it down to £1350 and now after a couple days of arguing the toss the dealership says it will do it for £1100. Now I'm a reasonable kind a guy but what??...We bought the car used in June 09 (07 plate) and after asking about reported leaky roofs I was told that that it was an old problem which they've now fixed. If that was the case the salesman knew full well that my car was going to have problems. :-(
Hi I think most people experience leaking or noise from the roof at some time. In the main the answer is to apply a special lubrication to the seals. This puts right the problem, the garage is trying it on me thinks. Look for theads on this site relating to seals/leaks, there are many helpful tips. The lub is quite expensive c£30.
O yes find another VW garage.

During the course of production, VW did change the roof seal specification/design slightly. However, that doesn't mean every single Eos with the older design of seal would definitely leak (as some would have you believe ;) ), so there's a good chance the salesman didn't know that your car would definitely have problems as you suggest he would.
What they've most probably done isn't just lube the seals as Bob says, but replace all the roof seals with the later design/spec of seal - not cheap as you can see by the size of the bill. The car in question is now getting on for 4 years old and you've had it 7 months - has it leaked since you got it? If so, then the garage you bought it should cover the full cost - if you're in the UK a quick mention of the Sale of Goods Act might concentrate their mind. If not, then I'd reckon you're getting away lightly by just having to pay less than half the amount. :)
Also, the roof seals are one of those items that appreciate some preventative maintenance with a quick clean and lube (using DuPont Krytox GPL105) by a caring owner - something the previous owner might not have done which may have not helped matters. Mind you, owner maintenance seems so unfashionable nowadays - judging by the number of cars out there with one or more bulbs out.
