: Daytime Headlights on EOS 2010 Models
Coolhandjo 02-08-2011, 03:31 AM I picked up my brand new EOS 155 2010 in Oct 2010. The headlights do not switch off when the knob is either in the off position or the automatic position regardless if it is day or night. Is this normal for this model? It would of been good to be able to switch the HEADLIGHTS off and just keep the parking/daytime RUNNING lights on instead of having to leave the HEADLIGHTS on all the time. The only thing you can do is switch to parking lights but in NO WAY can you ever run in the day or night without any lights on at all!
I have read the manual and it is a bit ambiguous. It talks about daytime HEADLIGHTS that can never be turned off manually. But it then talsk about Daytime RUNNING lights which can be disabled. I have tried everything but nothing turns the HEADLIGHTs off in the day time!
Any help appreciated! I still love my EOS though!
Sounds like you need to find a friend with VAG-COM/VCDS to plug into the diagnostic port and disable the function in the control unit. ;)

Yeah - I read up on that - But I really want to know if this is a VW standard for EOS 2010 models?

I'm pretty sure they turn off if you pull up the parking brake.

Now thats funny! I will try that but not sure it will help with my querey. Anyway, hopefully someone can tell me if this is a standard feature on the EOS 2010 in Australia?
evolvingpowercat 02-08-2011, 11:34 PM Read your owners manual - all VW sold have daytime running lights by default. It used to be possible to configure them off in the MFD in some models but I think the VW lawyers have caused that to be removed from the MFD settings screen for a few years. It has always been possible to change settings in a module using a VW dealer diagnostic machine or a Ross Tech OBD Interface with Ross Tech VCDS software to disable them or move them to the fog lights instead of the low beams, I assume this is still the case.

Thanks. I have read the manual a number of times. It does talk about the headlights not being able to be turned off. But it also talks about the Daytime RUNNING lights being able to be turned on or off. I tried doing this but nothing changed. Thanks for post.
Daytime Headlights are DIFFERENT to daytime running lights
Lucid Nonsense 02-09-2011, 02:06 AM Unfortunately, it really doesn't matter what lighting configuration is supposed to be standard, if you can't change the lights to function the way you like using the MFD or the headlight switch. You're stuck having to visit a VW dealer or independent shop, or find someone with the Ross-Tech VAG-COM/VCDS software, like previous posters have already mentioned. Or, buy VCDS yourself.
It's 249USD for the Micro-CAN interface. Fairly light & small box, so shipping to Australia shouldn't be too exorbitant:

A 2010 Eos is basically like a MKV Golf/Jetta electronically.
Good thread over here on a MKV Golf forum, with a handy PDF of tips:

In the "Central Electronics Module", you can turn off the DRLs, use fogs as DRLs, etc. By DRLs I mean the headlights are at ~90% brightness continuously when the car is moving, unless you turn them to full brightness for nighttime use.
There's also a VAG-COM thread on vwvortex:

You could ask questions there; Ross-Tech folks frequent the page.
I turned off our Eos' DRLs with ease using VCDS - it's a user-friendly program. Since our Eos is a North American car, I also had to also swap in a Euro headlight switch to have the parking light function by itself:http://www.ecstuning.com/Volkswagen-EOS--2.0T/Lighting/Switches/ES9974/ Sounds like you already have the parking light position on your switch. With our Eos, we have the options of 1)no lights, 2)parking lights, or 3)headlights. I don't see why you couldn't obtain the same on your car.
Best of luck -

Thanks for the links - appreciated . I will also ask the service guys to do a change for me if possible next time I drop it off.
jim.pang88@gmail 03-11-2011, 10:49 PM I have the same EOS (MY 2011) Australian model, and same issue. I asked the VW service guy, and he asked VW headoffice in Australia, the feedback is that it is not possible to turn it off. So, it is a dead end. It is very annoying.
Hayman002 03-23-2011, 09:51 AM just wondering exactly which lights are 'on' as daytime running lights?....in Oz they are not standard, well not on my 08, and would like em....

Well found! I'm seriously thinking about having this done. I'll pass this on to the Tiguan people too because there is a part number for them as well.
Darkknight 04-05-2011, 04:59 AM I bought the Euro switch and the main DRLs turn off - leaving only the inner lights on when switched to parking. Now if only I could find someone w/ VAG-COM to allow the fog lights to come on. Might just invest in that too. /shrug
slimer 04-05-2011, 02:51 PM I contacted VW Australia and there are no plans to bring the Day Light kit to Australia.
