Hi there...first time in the forum...hope I am in the right place.....
I am looking at purchasing a 2007 VOLKSWAGEN EOS 1F FSI DSG.
Can anyone recommend a place in Sydney (near Leichhardt NSW) where I can get the car inspected prior to buying it.
Thanks....:)

Was the car Australian-delivered or is it a "grey market" import? Very important as this will have a significant effect on the resale value of the vehicle. As far as I am aware, the first Eos version sold in Australia was the MY08.
I do not think there would be an independent VW specialist who would have enough experience with the Eos to do a proper pre-purchase inspection on a used Eos as almost all servicing done to date would be by dealers as the vehicles are still under warranty. You might find a dealer prepared to do an inspection for you but this carries a risk for them.
An NRMA inspection would probaby be your best protection as you would have some comeback if you subsequently experience problems that should have been picked up during the inspection.

Hi Silvershadow
thanks for replying to my question.
Re your question, "Was the car Australian-delivered or is it a "grey market" import?"
Not sure....I will enquire with the current owner....I live in Melbourne, so up to now all contact has been via email.
NRMA Inspection....are they the same as an RACV inpsection in Victoria.
What risk would it carry for a dealer to do a Pre Purchase inspection.
I was thinking of a VW dealer close to Leichhardt.

Yes - you should get this at NRMA member's price as a reciprocal if you have RACV membership.

Big risk if they report the car is OK and you then find repairs are necessary in the first month or two of ownership and the problem existed at the time the car was inspected. Water leaks and accident history would be my major concerns.

Barloworld on Parramatta Road at Five Dock are not too far from Leichhardt.

Yes - you should be able to get reciprocal member's pricing as a consequence of your RACV membership.

Big liability risks if the car has defects which they do not pick up during the inspection - you have a right to claim damages if they approve the car and you then find repairs are necessary within say 3 months after you purchase the car.

If my memory is correct, there is one on Parramatta Road at Five Dock not far from Leichhardt - Barloworld.

Silvershadow...
thanks again for your reply....
the car was purchased direct from a Volkswagon dealer.
Not having had an NRMA / RACV check before, would they check for water leaks.
Is there any other check you would recommend.

The standard check is very comprehensive and this is reflected in the cost :D. The mechanical part of the inspection will be straight forward as the Eos uses standard VW mechanicals.
I would book the inspection with a specific request to check for water leaks from the roof/window/boot seals. The car does not have drip rails to direct water running off the roof away from the door openings so due care needs to be taken to watch for water entering the car interior when the doors are opened to avoid incorrect leak reporting.
My only other concerns would be chassis misalignment from accident damage or a "cut & shut" by a shonky repairer.
