What's the Administrator's view on languages?
English only? Or anyone with an Eos welcome whatever language they want to write in?
If people want another language they can always start another Eos site?

Bienvenue dans le coin français du forum. Ce serait sympa de poster des photos de votre EOS devant des monuments Parisiens connus pour nos ami(e)s anglo-saxons. :p

I love France, the French and the French language (and French wine!). But that doesn't mean to say I think a mixture of languages on the site is a good idea.

If you went on to a French forum and started proposing conversing in English what do you think the French would say? They even have laws to stop people using English...

Excuse me, I do not speak English.
If you want to talk about the Eos in french, you can go to the website : http://eoscab.free.fr

Actually I don't mind either. I just like winding the French up. I even have lots of French relations (via my daughter) and really like them all!

I am not anti any language but because this forum is open to all I think we should post in a common language. I was born here in the US and the only language I speak is English (or at least an Americanized version of it). The most prevalent second language here is Spanish. In Europe people seem to be able to understand two or more languages. Obviously I am not going to go to any other forum and post in English and expect them to understand me and I suppose some one would post a reply criticizing me for doing so and I wouldn't understand their reply not knowing their language. I would hope that I am not the only person with this view. So if I have offended anyone by what I have said I am truly sorry.

Without starting a whole polemic, I thought the idea behind the Regional Sections was to create a little corner for our European neighbours so that they can indulge in their mother tongue alongside people who can speak the language. This website is still however dominated by the English language so I wouldn't worry too much. Come on guys, chill out...

Are you sure? An attempt was made when President Chirac came to power to reduce the number of Anglo-Saxons words used in the French language. Rather than laws, they were more guidelines. It worked for some words and did not work for some other words. However it was never about creating an 'anti-English' mentality, far from it. In fact, probably 70% of educated people can speak English.

I thought I'd correct some misconceptions here.

On verra.

You're not a Frenchman by any chance are you Tintin?!

I don't have any misconceptions - I know France and the French very well and have no problems with them at all! As I said I love France.

And I know that whilst there have been official attempts at stifling Franglais I know that's just what they are - officialdom - and they are treated with contempt by the French population themselves, who, let's face it, are an independent lot and will decide for themselves what they say and not be dictated to by misguided self-important politicians (and that description of politicians is not restricted to French ones!).

Vive la France!

(Wasn't Tintin Belgian by the way?)

Is the Wheel of York the one near the station? In the right place you could take a photo there and pretend it was the London Eye!!! Don't think you'd ever be able to get close the BB nowadays anyway. We are off to London for the weekend soon, will try and get something along the embankment with H of P in background.

I would have chosen Gaston Lagaffe (my other hero) but he was not as internationally known as Tintin. :)

The way the price of petrol is going at the mo I might ask VW whether they have any plans to bring out a hybrid EOS. Anyway I hope you enjoy your week-end in London. Looking forward to the pictures Skidoo.
