hey gang...

I figure we'd start a thread where we list ALL of our warranty issues, and perhaps re-edit our posts as with the progress or solution to the problem. This way if we see a pattern of issues, it might either help the VW lurkers or even the owner sort out a solution.

Mine was finally delivered last week and so far:

1) Driver side switches for the rear windows would stick in both the up and down position... almost seemed like a feature at first.

solution: new switches ordered and replaced on door

2) lumbar support on driver side seat would stick or not engage in one of the positional toggles.

solution: new switch installed on lumbar support, requited the removal of front seat.

3) Bubbling of the black vinyl skin on the door sil panel when hot. Its the top rear deck trim panel behind the driver and right next to the rear passenger's head on their left (its the front most panel that slides to the side to allow the leading pilars of the roof to emerge)

solution: Replacement: the dealer said that they are ording the part, it may take a week to get it in.

4) The trunk locking mechanism wasn't engaging the trunk... leaving it open and unlocked all of the time.

solution: The dealer is ordering a new locking motor and it should take a few days.

As a side note, I still have to deal with the nightmode not working on the avic-D3 nav system...

Good idea Archie,
I have only had one issue so far that of a non-retracting passenger seat belt. It was delivered like that from new. Replaced within a week.

So far, have put 14000 kms on car in 8 months, with just a couple of minor problems:

1. Driver side window would not shut properly ... would go to top when door shut, meet resistance, and then open again. Dealer fixed it while I waited .... re-calibrated stop position when door closed so no resistance. Everything fine since.

2. Trunk would not open, was jammed shut. Dealer again fixed while I waited ..... made minor adjustment to trunk locking bar which activates when top is being put up or down. No problems since.

No leaks, no rattles, no other problems.

Hello archiea,

I received my TDI DSG 2 weeks ago and i've just installed an AVIC D3 BT :
- I presume you found a solution for the nightmode ? Mine is working properly (my canbus interface is pioneer CA-R-PI.221v3)
- I can't access the "next and previous" functions with the steering wheel, is it the same for you ?

I've driven since December 2006 and have no problems at all.

No, that's not completely true. I have to keep stopping in at the local gas station and fill the darned thing up with gas. :( Wish VW would come up with a solution to that.

I lube the roof every 3 months with the VW branded krytox. I wash it weekly. I drive it as much as possible.

How much does fuel cost in Canada? I bet it's not as much as here in the money grabbing UK :p

Costs enough for me to dream about finding some other way to make my Eos move forward. I talked to the wife about having her push, but ended up sleeping on the floor for the night. :)

Right now, it is about $1.14 Canadian per litre.

I have had my car for two weeks, was back at the dealership yesterday for my windshield wipers and leak. Windshield wipers only cleared about 5 inches in the middle of each wiper - they forgot to install the proper wipers before selling. The leak, well I live in the desert and instead of a water leak, i have a sand leak. My first dust storm produced a small amount of very fine sand sitting on my driver's side panel near my dash. They tested for water leaks, found none so far... I guess i will have to wait for our monsoon season.

I also notice some minor rattles, trying to figure out exactly where they are coming from... Hate to try and explain them and have them looking at me like a silly female. :)

Have your applied Krytox to your roof seals? This may help with your rattles.

GOgg

Using the Krytox does help with creaks from the top of the windscreen area. However, a lot of the other rattles are due to design and are common to all convertibles, especially those with hard-tops. Stick some tunes on to cover up, forget and enjoy!

Must agree w/ SoCalMan - Krytox applied to all seals eliminates 99% of those rattles.

...talking of which, did anyone else get three free sachets in a little pack when they got their car? Ifound these today and can only assume that they are Krytox as they say that they should be used for CSC roofs.

Fantastic result, I'm guessing they don't need to be applied that often (every couple of months?) so I've got a nice stash! Might go back in a while and see if they can give me a few more free ;)

Well i will see if this is it, but i really did not think it was the roof making the noises. it is rather weird - having a hard time describing it. If the road is not smooth as silk, i hear the wierd noises almost like gears or metal rubbing together.

Just wanted to give an update on my EOS... the Krytox helped the rubber rubbing metal sound on the back C frame area.

New issue... 3 issues in one week... Airbag fault each time. Going to pick up car today. Keep your fingers crossed. They have reset the light, they have replaced the solinoid part, now they are messing with the wiring hook ups...

Delivered Feb 2nd 2007

1. Upon delivery had a kinked-in seal between the passenger window and the rear triangle window. Caused lots of wind noise. Replaced no questions asked.

2. And only happened yesterday - Airbag fault when the passenger seat was all the way back (wife and little dog on the floorboard up front - and yes... the wife was in the seat). I restarted the car - no change. Then I pulled the seat up and restarted the car... problem dissappeared. Is this normal? Or was I lucky.... I hate it when something doesn't stay broken... impossible to troubleshoot.

However, no other problems... no creaks... no leaks. Perfect running order... great mileage.

Love the car.

Did they replace the window seal or the entire window? My seal between the windows has a small rip and is cracked. I am waiting for the arrival of the entire rear window as I am told by the service writer they cannot get just the rubber seal.

That is inaccurate. They replaced the black metal strip that the rubber seal is attched to. I still have my same window. If you want to have your dealer ask my dealer they can call them and see what they had to do... we had to wait for the seal, but it only took a couple of hours to replace (first Eos they had to work on).

Contact the service dept at Dewight Harrison VW. This isn't where I bought my Eos, but they have an excellent service department. Here is the link:

http://www.dwightharrison.com/

You could probably call the dealer yourself and have them contact your dealer. It would save them money so they will probably listen.

good luck.

Called your dealer, Dewight Harrison's parts guy, who gave me the part number and was really nice. Kind of wish they were closer to South Florida. Called my dealer's parts guy and they have the strip in stock. Then called the sevice writer, told him what I found out and he back pedaled a little and told me the window as a "just in case". I want to believe him. This is the same service writer who told me to use Vasoline on the seals.
Perhaps, since the Eos is new and their experience is limited with it we are part of the learning curve.
Once again, I sure am glad we have this forum to exchange information. Thanks.

My cruise control is arriving on 20th so going in then to have it fitted and attend to the following issues.

1) Driver’s door needs aligning. Silver trim is out of alignment compared with passenger side.
2) Inner boot cover sensor doesn’t work so roof will try to go down even if cover is in the up position, (eek!)
3) Boot light has never worked from new. Was this disconnected inadvertently when the tow bar was fitted?
4) Petrol filler hinged flap doesn’t close without pressing it hard and tends to pop open after a while, (ooh err!)
5) Rattle from drivers door with roof down and windows up
6) Starter motor makes an occasional loud grinding noise especially when starting from hot without any throttle, (ouch!)

Will let you know how I get on.
Cheers, David

I have one serious rattle in the driver's door - the whole window seems loose and when the roof is down with the windows up the front and back windows do not flex together properly causing serious rattles and vibrations.
I suspect the problem is in the drivers door since when the dealer first showed me the vehicle in the compound after it had come off the transporter, the drivers side folding electric mirror was completely loose and the protective film was missing from it. The mirror has been fixed but there are rattles from the mirror housing also.
The car is due to go in to the dealer next Tuesday to sort out the problem.
My worry is that I am taking the car to a very small dealership inShrophire and I fear that the technicians may not be up to the task of solving problems on the EOS.
The dealer also failed to order factory fitted cruise control as per my order and is now going to retro fit the cruise control. The dealer tells me that the factory fit cruise is the same as the retro cruise but the retro cruise is over £100 cheaper. Has anyone any ideas on the cruise control? If the retro fit is different, then I think I will cancel the installation and ask for my money back. The dealer took the money for the cruise at delivery, despite the fact it wasn't fitted.

Retro fit is cheaper for some reason (about £150)

I also don't think ANY dealer is much use with the EOS yet!

I would only take something to them if it is critical or not roof related! If it is roof related, think very carefully before letting a dealer look at it! (no offence to the dealer, but they simply don't have the roof experience yet!)

Hi ShropshireAl,
My dealer failed to order cruise as well which is why its being fitted afterword. They did try to fit it before delivery but the cruise they ordered dint fit as its been changed in the 2008 model Eos. Several owners have had this done and it pretty straightforward and should be identical to the factory fit. Interesting about the window rattle lets know how you get on.

I had the retro cruise control fitted today and as everyone agrees it is the same as the factory fitted version. My EOS is also a 2008 model.
As to the problem of the rattlling drivers door window - no joy there yet. The service manager at Inchcape in Oswestry can see that there is a problem and the front window does not mesh together and flex properly with the rear window. The technicians at the Oswestry dealership took a look but were unable to correct the fault but succeeded in causing creaks from the passenger side now.
The situation now is that my EOS is having to go into the Inchcape bodyshop in Shrewsbury to have the problem fixed and they haven't given me a date yet - could be off the road for weeks I guess.

Has anyone else experienced problems like this with the windows and also creaking noises? The car has only done 500 miles but the problem was there from day 1.

I had awful creaks/rattles from the roof area when the car was new but all fixed with the magic Krytox..

ShropshireAl
09-19-2007, 07:05 PM
Thanks for the advice about the Krytox - I will give it a go.

I have noticed another problem now - there are faint scratches in the paint lacquer on the roof side members, on both sides of the car. It appears to me that the roof side members must be rubbing on something as they disappear down the sides of the boot when the roof is lowered. I am going back to the dealer on Friday and will show them the problem. I will ask them to find the cause and them smooth out the lacquer.

Anyone else come across this issue? Check the roof side members just above the rear windows, preferably in sunlight.

Cheers, Al

Bought 07 EOS with 43,000 miles and new engine replaced by VW. Now have 47,000 miles on it. Drove to Utah last week and wheel bearing went out. Towed to dealer for replacement. Then BOTH radiator fans went out. Another long tow to dealer. Otherwise it's fine except I've misplaced owner manual and am trying to find out what maintenance work has been done. $60+ for oil change. $390 to service transmission? $80 to blow out the cabin air filter? $20 for windshield wipers?? This is a pricey car. Am investigating extended warranties direct online from VW. Anyone have experience with them?

Forgot to mention that drivers side door lock switch doesn't operate. Passenger side does and remote does. Also, has anyone installed a remote start switch? We live in the Arizona desert and it would be nice to start the car with the AC on for a few minutes before driving.

we had most of the aircon system replaced. Same as my camper.
The car's also had a software reflash and a fuel pressure sender replaced as a recall

The car drives great and each day that goes by without new problems is a good day, as it's out of warranty now! :-)

That's too funny - our '09 Eismeer Blue has the same issue, a twisted driver's seatbelt. Thought the belt had flipped around in the buckle, but it's the belt itself and will probably require unhooking the lower mount point to correct it. I'll let the dealer fix it during the impending 10K service. Doesn't bother my wife, but it bugs the heck out of me whenever I'm behind the wheel.

The only other issue we've had was a inoperative gas door switch, fixed right after we got the car.

I have a 2007 model and have had the following done under warranty:

2007 New headlining string (original had broken).

2009 headlining string replaced (part of the roof mechanism) - string had frayed.

2010 Mechatronic unit replaced on DSG gearbox - changes much smoother now.

That's all and the warranty has ended now, so that really is all.

Now that it is fixed, I'm not so sure I'm better off. Now, the belt lies flat, as you'd expect. But that means that it is also flat between the exit point and my shoulder. When I drive with the top down, the flat belt vibrates in the airflow. Before, I'd typically push the twist "up the line" so that it wasn't laying funny on my torso. That put the twist in the section in the section behind the seat-- I think the twist changed the airflow, and the belt didn't move like it does now.

I'd suggest testing it out before you have them "fix" it.....

81,500 miles on my Eos

1. Both wing mirrors had to be replaced - the uderpart had the paint peeling off and was replaced under warranty
2. Tyres - strongly suggest you check the wheel alignment/balance is correct - mine were wearing on the inner of the tyres, meaning I was going through tyres every 10,000 miles
3. Leaks!! had the seals replaced as every time it rained water collected in the door sills.
4. Taking it through an automatic carwash - water now leaks in on the join between the roof and the drivers window - this only happens in a car wash (still I have ordered a replacement Eos and usually wash by hand)
5. New Clutch at 81000 miles.

Here is the litany of my woes:

1. Rear left roof rattle. Returned to dealer in first 3 weeks. Not fixed. Returned to dealer again . Roof tightened, but now roof seals misaligned. (See separate post with photos). Still ongoing issue waiting for dealer to rectify.

2. Centre console door jammed- replaced under warranty.

3. Passenger leather trim below backrest has come loose- waiting for dealer to fix.

4. Sunroof right seal and track is deformed. Dealer to replace- waiting for parts.

5 . Luggage compartment cover spring clip on left slipping out- replaced it myself twice so far. But will get t hem to replace if there is ongoing slipping.

All in all my car is 7 months old a nd has been back to the dealer 6 times. No a pleasant experience, but at least they are doing something about my concerns. Awaiting final roof repair in a few weeks wehn the parts arrive.

Update: Been into workshop and seals replaced. There is still some misalignment in the right rear C pillar but now when its cold the window catches the roof seal where it joins the windshield. Boy was I mad ! The Service manager came out to see the car and promised to collect it once they had decided on the fix. So, it will have been into the dealer 8 X in less than 9 months !
