: I cannot BELIEVE that the DPF has failed AGAIN!

After the last fiasco, wherin I parted with £300 to the VW garage close to home, to which the sales garage added £500 and VW ex gratia £500 to renew the DPF, my wife has just called to say that YET AGAIN the nice men at RAC have taken her home with a lorry.

This car ONLY EVER does long journeys, last week covering nearly 500 sunny miles in the Midlands over three days. The car is never ever used as a local runabout. The DPF light came on a couple of months ago, and a blast in 3rd on the motorway sorted it, but that should never be necessary.

The DPF is, following the above, almost new!

I believe there must be a sensor or similar problem to cause this. I am rapidly losing faith in the car. Much more of this and I want rid - perhaps Mr Clarkson could feature it on BBC and (for a fee equal to the value of the car) do something nasty to it. Maybe VW would wake up then, or even before. The car is, apart from this, the nicest that I have ever owned, but it HAS TO WORK AS A RELIABLE CAR.

I would really appreciate some help and advice on this.

Replaced under warranty (because I paid an amount toward the replacement last year). Thank you VW, but confidence is low.

Hi
Just had my car into the garage, DPF and Engine Management Light lit with Glow Plug lamp flashing. Thought the worst. My car rarely does short journeys. They did some comprehensive testing and eventually changed a faulty exhaust pressure sensor. £129 inc labour (sigh) Maybe you have an intermittent sensor problem?

A few weeks on, and the change to the sensor seems to be effective. Fingers crossed for us all!
