Hi there, I have just purchased my 3rd Eos, another 2.0 TDI DSG. This is a 2010 model, and whilst checking it out, noticed that the engine oil filter has changed somewhat, it looks to be integral with the oil cooler, with a black plastic dome cast with about a 25mm nut, Which I presume houses an oil filter cartridge ( as opposed to the spin on canister type ). Problem, immediatly under the filter dome is a small electric water pump with its hoses, which needs to be moved to remove the filter cartridge, and on initial inspection, looks like it could be a pain in the a**e, as the screws holding the pump to its bracket are also not easy to get on to.
Am I missing something obvious, is there an easy way to remove the filter, and is it the filter that I am actually looking at?? Any info would be appreciated.
Regards, Barry C.

Please do not keep us in suspense - what was the solution?

Hi there Silvershadow: I feel embarrased to admit it but I was looking in the wrong place. Checking up whether the dealer had done an oil change or not, (he hadn't) I took the alluminium under tray off and noticed the black plastic nutted dome on the underside of the oil cooler.
I knew there had been subtle changes to the engine and presumed, whilst gazing up underneath, that this was a new location for the oil filter, but totally obstructed by a small electric water pump (made of plastic) hanging on a bracket beneath this dome. Closer scrutiny the following day, I spotted the identical filter dome on the front left hand side of the engine in its normal place, lightly dusted and obviously not had a filter change in the last day or so. Sorry for such a mundane thread, perhaps I should have gone to SpecSavers!

Hi Barry,
My apologies for causing you embarassment :o:o. The reason for my request was purely curiosity about a possible revision of the oil filter configuration to make changing the filter easier and your initial description suggested the reverse was the case.
If it is any consolation, you haven't been the first and certainly will not be the last to have been in this situation. I am fortunate enough to now be an age where I can describe similar misadventures on my part as "a senior's moment" to cover my embarassment :D.

Hi Silvershadow, I can also claim to have had a "senior's moment",but having had vehicles of almost every description over the last 50 years, and thinking that I know a thing or two about motors, it niggles me to have missed such an obvious item. Your understanding is appreciated.
