: What do you like best?
The threads here all seem mainly to be about niggles with the Eos. Let's change the focus and state what we like the most from our EDAs
I'll kick off with:-
I love the fact that owning an Eos is like having the choice of two different cars, a coupe and a 2+2 sports car. The other major like is the scarcity of the model:D
The cruising and posing that's possible in it is fantastic:cool:
I sure other like different things lets hear about them
schoolhousefred 06-20-2007, 08:39 PM I just love that top! There is nothing like it at any price ... three cars in one!:)
Pepino 06-21-2007, 02:57 PM I'm not one for attention usually... well... until now. I like seeing the "What is that?" look on people's faces. Not to mention some days I like the sunroof, or convertible... or coupe...
and I agree with Graham.. the rare factor
We like almost everything.
Going from a turbo GLX beetle, whats not to like better.
archiea 06-21-2007, 05:57 PM For me, its the more hidden stuff... where the designers were smart with the car:
1) Low RPM torque peak on the 2.0T: this makes sure that the car doesn't feel weak when it hits an incline, or do excessive shifting.... something that 4 bangers do much of the time...
2) The low RPM torque also enables low, sub 2500RPM shifting in normal acceleration...
3) The DSG allows for the 6 speeds to maximize the time on the above low rpm area without the excessive lurching that a traditional automatic would do with such shifting.
4) The DSG as a solution for automatics.... its just smart: I mean you love to drive, and you don't think that an automatic should be a burden to that experience, I think the DSG offers a reasonable solution. No auto tranny will match either the tactile control of a pedal clutch or the convenience of muscle memory telling you what gear you are in on the shifter (they should address that!!). However I do like how the DSG offers a smooth transition between gears, enabling near invisible shifts to maintain the engine's powerband. Between the engine's low torque and the smooth shifting by the DSG, the car almost feels like it has a high torque electric motor in it.
5) The smart programming of the DSG... I like how they included the sport mode, which is just an alternate software mode, so how much "pricier" is the car by including it. This is where I see the engieneers winning over the bean counters, as I can see this being one of the first things axed in a car's production. Yet it provides alot of help with day to day driving, especially in a turbo, that one doesn't need to switch to the manual gear selection as often. I find that the sport mode, besides being a performance options, actually aids in day to day driving.. If I'm cruising at sub highwayspeeds, where the tranny is in 6th gear and below the RPM for turbo, I can snap it into sport mode if I want to pass and know that the turbo will be spooled up in a lower gear, ready for me to mash on the gas. Same goes with driving downhill: the sport mode automatically drops the car down a gear, and often thats all that is needed to have the engine help slow down the car. Nothing as exciting as sports driving through a canyon road, but still very effective in daily driving.. sepecially if you are used to a manual tranny and using the engine to slow down....
6) The upscale interior... i like how VW made the interior of the eos a nice place to be, and not an example of compromise. its nice to be in a car where the interior also has a 'curb appeal". the same goes with the trunk and the liner when the roof is up: minimal, fi any, exposure of hardware... gives the car a finished look. I like that. its says quality and pride.
7) the little red led interior lights that shine down on the interior... smart sexy and functional: The red color doesn't affect your night vision, less eye fatique because your interior cabin isn't completely dark and the ambient lighting is minimally increased, and it has this concept car coolness about it...
8) leatherette option: feels as good as leather, without the maintenance... vinyl is BACK with a vengence!!! Yeah baby!!!
9) chrome accents around the "deck" of the car as well as on the interior levers. Again.. the first thign that the bean counters will axe, yet its there making the car both look and feel like money.
10) I hear alot of, well, crap, about how this is such a pricey VW at 36k, or even 40K, without the mention of what you can get for just over 32K, not counting whatever discount you can get off the dealer... 32K can get you a 2.0T with a set of lemans wheels and the DSG. Another $400 gives you the premium audio head unit. To me, thats a bargain. If you want navigation, seriously, you should look into getting and aftermarket unit as the VW solution is ancient. And chances are if you do that, you will get a much better bluetooth and ipod control... so if these things are important, do your homework and shop around.
11) Sunroof... not enough can be said for this feature. I believe it alone saves alot of wear and tear on the car's convertable hardtop. I find that expanse of glass, along with the absence of the B-pillar, to be such an open experience. For me, the convertable option becomes that much of an 'extra" feature considering, as a daily driver, how convenient it is to have all of this sunlight in the car without having to constantly operate the top and not have the outside air & noise bowing around. So you have this sunny, airy interior in the car without the 'exposure" of having the top down. Like I said, this sunroof option cannot be overstated.
12) german pedigree... some call it a mini-BMW. Both in styling and engineering, the german pedigree in their cars is a class act, even in an albatross like the Eos. And hence, like it or not, it says money. Here in the states, it says pricey import. German cars just have that touch of flambouyance in both styling and engineering.. but in that german understated kind of way, that just feels exotic to us relative cromagnon yanks.
I mean thank god for Saturn's recent ad campaign themed as "rethink: american" that carries that theme ine xamples like "rethink: status" showing a hybrid car instead of an SUV as a symbol of status... very smart, smarter than Ford's wanna-be-ballsy "Bold Moves" which is just chest thumping.. Saturn at least addreses both the percieved and actual short comings of americna cars, as well as america's notion of "status"... IMO thats more "bold" than Ford.
13) smart trunk space... I like how they designed it so that you can get the custom suitcases to fit under the roof and ensure that you have enough room to pack while having the roof down. They should push this in the US and feature these suitcases in the trunk at dealerships to make the point as to how practical the car can be.

14) Oh yeah, and that convertable top gizmo. :D
Gavster 06-21-2007, 06:41 PM What a post Archie.
You can really feel the passion that you have for your car.
archiea 06-21-2007, 06:53 PM no buyer's remorse here!!
Gavster 06-21-2007, 06:55 PM I am looking forward to feeling the same for our new EOS which should be here in a couple of weeks.
schoolhousefred 06-21-2007, 06:58 PM Can anybody tell? Does Archie like his new car?
cb391 06-22-2007, 06:10 AM Does he like his car, love his car or obsessed? As for me my feeling is that there has to be something illegal about a car that has such a high fun to drive Factor
Andy
:D
old git 06-22-2007, 07:22 AM Well, I do think he could have been a little more comprehensive. It's truly decadent I agree but boy, such a lot of fun

:D
I forgot to mention in my original post that I love the sun roof as well. Sun roof when its raining but sunny with climatronic on, just brilliant!
Pepino 06-22-2007, 02:44 PM I must agree with Archiea, I too, have the leatherette, and both my dog and myself are glad it will hold up to her toe nails - all the while looking nice and classy. I prefer it to the leather.
archiea 06-23-2007, 01:05 AM Can anybody tell? Does Archie like his new car?
I'd love it even more with one of these FaBuLaS bags....:D
