Just after my 3 year warranty finished my primary key to my EOS failed and the engine immobiliser now kicks in.

We took the car to VW dealer and they looked at it. Now I notice the word SAFE appearing in the bottom right of the dashboard computer display and no longer see how many Km's I have done. I rang the dealer and he was not sure what the problem is.

The dealer is quoting $565 to replace the key. Has anyone else had to get a new key for their EOS? Does this sound right?

Thanks for any help re: why the SAFE message is appearing and if there is a more cost effective way to get the replacement key.
