: cool locking feature
californiakidlet 01-22-2007, 12:47 AM hi..all, i don't know if anyone else noticed this....but, when you have your top down and want to leave the car. you can still have your belongings safe. just lock the glove box, put everything in the trunk and lock the car. the eos has a great feature that when you lock it with the top down, it locks the locks. no one can just reach in and manually open the doors, trunk ot gas door. here in cali that comes in handy:)

Thanks for the tip. I have yet to receive my EOS (delivery date is the 1st March) Despite living in the NW of England (not known for its dry climate!) I fully intend to have the top down as often as possible!

Hi PORKER,(what a name!),
I have also ordered mine from Dutton Forshaw in B'pool, Roger Stansfield was the sales rep. Mine is a 2.0 TFSi in Leonie blue with black leather seats and Westwood alloys, but how about you?
I shall look out for you on the 1st March (thats the day before my birthday - good present A!).
How come you bought from B'pool ? Surely there must be VW dealers on Merseyside.
Going off the subject, although I am a 'Blackpudding' I spent 20 years living and working in Liverpool/Wirral.

I’ve ordered a Tdi in deep pearl black, red nappa leather, sat nav and cruise control. I did try VW L’pool and Warrington, but they wouldn’t give me the trade in price I wanted. So went to B’pool and did the deal ;) See you in March. lets hope the suns out.
And sorry for stealing you thread californiakidlet :D
All the best

And what's more, if someone DOES reach into the car whilst it's parked with the top down the alarm goes off once they interrupt the space below bootlid level! It says so in the brochure and it works - I've tried it!
californiakidlet 01-25-2007, 02:49 AM  whats that? i read that feature in the book about the alarm....but i couldn't get it to work. ohhhh are we poor USA eos lovers deprived of yet another cool feature....tell me how to really test it to see if it works. thanks

Left the door window down then leant in as if to retrieve something from the front passenger seat. Leaning quite a long way in nothing happened and I thought it wasn't going to work, but as I made to pick up something from the seat off went the alarm!
Just leave a book or something on the seat and try to retieve it whilst the car's locked and see what happens!
Pepino 02-13-2007, 03:00 PM Looks like I know what I'm going to try today when I get home!
I wonder what would happen if I had the top down, dog in the back seats, and locked the car? (she would be quite happy staying and not jumping out)
hmmm.... I feel an experiment coming on...

The alarm would go off as soon as the dog moved! You'd just have to tell it to keep still on pain of death!

I'm going to have to try this when I get home as well to see if mine does it...glad you shared info since I was wondering about what to do when top was down...apparently I haven't gotten that far in the manual yet. :o
californiakidlet 02-13-2007, 08:48 PM does not work in mine. at least not the one where you can leave car open and locked. i was able to crawl in and out and did not trigger anything. needless to say i was mucho disappointed. but at least i can lock it up and still leave top down. that i am happy about. since i drive as much as i can with the top down....weeee this car is better than prozac :)

Could be it's only standard in some markets (such as UK, where we have lots of car crime). Take a look at the options list and that should clarify.

On our UK model 2.0TDI there is a switch to turn off the interior monitoring part of the alarm, therefore allowing you to leave your dog in the car without setting off the alarm. The switch is under the drivers door arm rest. An explanation is also in the handbook. Hope this helps you in the states too.

Wondered what that switch did!

Alas, my Eos is only equiped with the anti-theft noise maker and ignition shutdown. Which, is good enough for where I live, but the motion sensor sounds nice! But my dog is gald I don't have anything more fancy. :) That sounds like a nice option for those with theft problem areas.
GurnyGub 02-18-2007, 11:13 AM Yep, the Yanks don't get the microwave sensors for the top down alarm, sorry Kidlet! Just console yourselves with the fact that my Eos cost about $66,000. And our gas/petrol is much dearer than yours, and tickets are $120, and, and....
So think of all the aftermarket goodies you can put on.

californiakidlet 02-19-2007, 12:29 AM this is so not fair. again, we here in the US are the stepchildren. yup they may give us the ice cream, but we don't get the toppings. please...someone tell VW we have car thieves is the US too. especially in sunny cali when the top is down more than up. i was also saddened when we don't get the little drawer by the steering wheel. i had one of those in an accord i had and loved it. and what about the cool drawer for under the front seat... execpt is won't work with electric seats. okay i'm done whinning now. anyway i just got back from a great drive for 4 hours, winding roads, blue skyes and pedel to the metal. this car is definately one of the best ways to put a smile on your face:D
GurnyGub 02-19-2007, 10:26 AM Don't call me rats!:) Nah, the thing about your Eos apparently is that VWUS wanted the car to come in at a certain price against competitors' cars, so different options were 'forgotten' about. You could get an aftermarket alarm fitted, I'm sure. No cubby in the dash is your Govmnt's fault not VW's! For safety reasons your bosses insist on a steel bar in the dash just where it would fit. Your health and safety people insist on quite a few changes to the car compared to ROW (rest of the world) Eoses, so maybe that's where a lot of the money goes. AND...it's wind and lashing rain over here so keep smiling!
John
