up until now we have owned diesel cars. we are getting a petrol eos (2 ltr fsi sport 200 bhp in shadow blue corn silk leather interior chicago wheels and a list of optional extras as long as your arm). my question is has anyone got any suggestions to stop me going into automatic pilot and putting diesel in my car? as i know this often happens. we expect delivery in ten lonnng weeks !!!:)

try putting a sticker on the gas cap... that should slow you down some.

I've never had a problem. Lucky me. I've had a Diesel Discovery & a Petrol V8 defender as well as my TDI EOS. Closest I've come is to putting a hand on the wrong pistol.
Unless you go into shutdown mode when filling up I don't think you'll have a problem.
I reckon most people have a problem when it's a strange car. So be careful for the first few fill-ups & then it'll be automatic putting in the correct fuel.

A drop of diesel in a petrol engine won't do any harm except make it smoke - may damage the catalyser though. As long as it's not a tank full. If it is it'll cost a bit to get the tank drained & clean the system.

But just a little petrol in a diesel will destroy the engine when it starts as it will over rev & won't shutdown until it blows-up :mad: unless you can make it stall.

What made you choose the TFSI over the TDI as you've had diesels before?

Just enjoy your EOS when it arrives. You'll love it as we all do.:D

That's right - it's very common for people to put petrol in a diesel car but the other way round is almost unheard of.

thanks for all your help and suggestions. to answer your question jim, i oroginally ordered the tdi but realising that i would be cruising with the roof down, as you do, at every given chance, i thought the petrol would be more appropriate as the engine would be quieter, the eos is a beautiful car and i did not want it to look like a swallow and sing like a seagul. i have heard that the diesels are noisey so i don't want to take a chance. i hope i haven't upset any tdi owners, i want to make it clear that i haven't heard a diesel in an eos so i can only assume that they are like other vw diesels. can those with tdi's tell me i'm wrong or if this is so?
i wasn't aware that the nosels on the diesel pumps were too big for the petrol car. i think it would be a good idea for manufacturers to shape the nosels to fit either a diesel or a petrol. or have a little recorded message on opening the petrol flap telliing that it's either a diesel or petrol, or a giant keyring in green with petrol in big capital letters on it. i realy don't trust myself.

I understand your reasoning. I must say I have no problems with noise (doesn't affect the Dynaudio at all:) ). You can tell it's not as quiet as a petrol, I wouldn't expect it to be. But it is perfectly acceptable to my mind and never encroaches on the enjoyment either top-up or top-down. I get no diesel smell (did wonder when top-down) except when filling up.
The only thing that is missing is a rasp to the exhaust note. The TDI sometimes sounds a bit 'boat-like'. Probably caused by the exhaust being hidden behind the bumper causing an echo - you only notice it top-down. And I've got used to it now.

The diesels do have a label on the filler flap saying 'DIESEL'. Don't know if anything is done for the petrols other than perhaps the 'RON' number needed (unleaded or super-unleaded).
