No, here in Alberta we do not require a front license plate. I guess the Government felt it un-necessary and it saves them money. I agree, I think the plate on the front spoils the appearance.
schoolhousefred 07-20-2007, 12:37 AM Hi Hugh,
I am thoroughly impressed with how clean you keep your car. I've got exactly the same colour combination, but not nearly so "spiffy"; however, I got some good news today! The town where I bought the car is celebrating it's 150th anniversary, and the VW dealer is the major sponsor of the big parade. He had planned to use an EOS as a major feature in the parade with one of the celebrities. But, guess what? He doesn't have one ... sold out! So, he called today and wants mine for the day .... I'll get a full detailing out of the deal, and if the celebrity is a major, glamorous star; maybe I'll get to be the chauffeur!
Cheers!
Hugh Jass 07-20-2007, 12:43 AM That is awesome Fred! Even if you don't get to be the chauffeur, make sure you get lots of photos then post some here.
I try to keep my car clean. I have a wand car wash just down the block from me, so when she gets a little dirty its off to the wash! I find drying it off with a good chamois really helps as well.
Cheers!
P.S. my first EDA coming up this Sunday. I am off to San Diego for 10 days.
schoolhousefred 07-20-2007, 01:25 AM Have a Great EDA Hugh,
Actually I had a second "good news story" today ......... took my wife out for an EDA to a country lunch and live comedy theatre. It was a wonderful day, until I was pulled over for speeding going thorough a small town ... doing 80 kph in a 50 kph zone! Policeman was extremely polite and said "Guess it's hard not to speed in a beautiful car like that". I offered to show him a few features ... of course, the top going up and down, sun roof, the paddle shifters, the trunk. I even volunteered to "swap" him cars so he could test drive! In the end I got a big smile, a "have a nice evening", and NO ticket!
Drive carefully Hugh!
griffsmom 07-20-2007, 01:32 AM Have a great EDA!! Look for me when you go through Orange County, CA (around Irvine/Lake Forest area). I'll be in the white Eos--top down if it's after work-- smiling and waving at you! :D

Hi Fred,
Thought you were going to be careful about speeding after last time:D
Its easily done though, your speed creeps up without you noticing.
happy EDAs
schoolhousefred 07-20-2007, 11:17 AM Hi Graham,
........... and I have been careful, but when you are on country roads and all of a sudden come to a little town with 50 people or less and the speed limit suddenly drops from 80 to 50 for no apparent reason .............. Thanks goodness for my charm (highly unlikely) or my wife's good looks (quite likely) or the EOS's appeal (highly likely) because it "saved my bacon" again! Have a good weekend!
jamcar 07-20-2007, 12:06 PM but when you are on country roads and all of a sudden come to a little town with 50 people or less and the speed limit suddenly drops from 80 to 50 for no apparent reason .
what a classic statement lmao no apparent reason schoolhousefred what are you like lol
Do you have zebra crossings (pedestrian crossings) in Canada because if you do i would love to hear your take on the rules for them
schoolhousefred you have really cheered me up on what is a grey miserable wet day here in uk :)
schoolhousefred 07-20-2007, 02:10 PM Well Denny,
The truth is ............ I ate a huge piece of "humble pie". Right off the bat I admitted to the officer that he was absolutely right to stop me, and that I should have slowed down, and that I had no excuse for speeding. Then the officer said "Guess it's hard with that wonderful car". POW!!!!!! There was my opening!
My wife is still giggling over the episode.... alternately says I'm "full of it" and have "horseshoes up my derriere"! Mea culpa!
Have a great weekend, and hope you get some sunny, dry weather. How long until your baby arrives?
shorenuf 07-20-2007, 02:54 PM .... "horseshoes up my derriere"! Mea culpa!

Schoolhouse Fred -- um, Ouch! Is that worse than getting "poggered up"? I'm learning a whole new descriptive language visiting here! :)
Denny -- sorry for the gender goof on the other thread. :o I have a friend Denise who is also Dennie. I took the "y" ending as being for a guy, I guess. My new Eos is due mid October -- maybe that makes your arrival date seem closer for you!! :)

Hi Roberta!
Actually ... getting "poggered up" sounds like fun! Certainly better than cast iron up one's butt! So ... maybe we're better off not really knowing the true meaning of the word!
Guess you won't be worrying too much about a rainy weekend where you live .... have a great one! Think I'll take a little time to give my baby a good cleaning inside .... get rid of all incriminating evidence like gum drop containers, iced cappucino cups, butterscoth toffee wrappers, etc.

Hi there!
Actually the Monsoons have just recently begun -- partly cloudy, chance of dust/thunderstorms every day and a cooling trend -- from over 110 every day to the low 100's. Those storms can be quite severe. They are amazing to watch (more so before I owned property here:) )
It's good to hear you "live" in your car -- coffee cups and the like. My new Eos will be my first "smoke-free" car -- I quit 4 years ago tomorrow!!!
Totally off topic but kudos to me!!!! I'm going to Vegas to celebrate. (Yup, traded one vice for another :) )
Have a great week end!

Good for You, Roberta,
You deserve a reward!
Can tell you two reinforcing stories:
1.) my middle son had an alcohol and tobacco problem. Five years ago he went "cold turkey" on both (at age 33) with no organized support group. After 12 months, he bought himself a gold Rolex with the money he saved. Today, he is the picture of health in all respects, and getting married for first time next month. (She's the attractive blonde in my avatar!)
2.) unfortunately attended funeral of old high school friend last Saturday. He was never able to kick the tobacco habit despite many doctors' warnings. Died of congestive lung failure. His widow still smokes!
So ..... you deserve your weekend!

Thanks for sharing, Fred. So many (too many?) of us have similar stories. My oldest daughter (now 39) has a checkered history. She is now clean and sober, productive and happy. I am very proud of her. I smoked for 40 years -- there are certainly no guarantees all the ill effects possible from that will disappear, but I'm glad to be rid of a habit now deemed disgusting by all but one of my friends!!
Congratulations on the upcoming nuptials -- all good things to the happy couple!!
Roberta
jamcar 07-24-2007, 12:07 AM sorry for the delay in answering you schoolhousefred, my car should be with the dealer within the next week, but I am not due to pick her up until sept 1st, this is because that is the date that the registrations change here in UK. all the reasons for this being the set delivery date are explained fully in another thread (dont ask me what one) but I think it will be harder knowing the car is only 15 minutes down the road sat waiting, than it has been all the other weeks.
shorenuf, dont worry about the name/gender mix up believe me your not the first and im certain you wont be the last. My sister Farren has even more fun and games with her name lol
Bryan Cossart 11-11-2007, 08:33 AM Hey Hugh, what is the little doodad at the top of your interior photo? Pic no 3 I think.
thanks in anticipation.
see ya
SiJ2000 11-11-2007, 10:42 AM Also, you're stereo is somewhat different to anything I have ever seen before! What model is it?
Hugh Jass 11-15-2007, 01:44 AM Bryan.... the "doodad" you are referring to is my eyeglass holder that clips to the visor. Very handy gizmo.
SiJ2000.... the stereo is the factory stereo. AM/FM radio with single disc in dash CD player.
