Hi All,

I have got hold of a demo EOS which I should get in a couple of weeks... It was registered in March 07...

I have heard that the seal design was changed then.... (In the UK)

How do I know if it is last of the old, or first of the new design?

I am worried now...

I am reading so many posts about the leaks, it is starting to worry me very much!!!

Someone please reassure me!!

I'm getting a 2.0T FSI, DSG.

Thanks

S

:D I have had no leaks and I have had my EOS since February. Do not fear, but enjoy. Even in the worst case scenario it is all covered under warranty.

I have heard about a seal change, but no one has verified that, atleast to my knowledge.
Have you asked your dealer? I would think the service department would know. Still, leaks in the "newer" Eos' have mostly been taken care of using Krytox.

I have had mine since October last year and no leaks via the seals so far. (I think its rained most days so its had a damn good test.) I lubricate them about every 4 months, not especially for leak prevention, but it stops a lot of the squeaks from the sun roof meeting the windscreen edge as well.

So don't let the scare stories put you off.

I've had one leak, and my car is now 9 months old.

For me, the rubber alongside the sunroof had twisted slightly when I had put the roof up the night before, although I didn't notice at the time. It rained VERY HEAVILY that night and about a dozen drops got in.

An application of Krytox later I've not had a leak since.

Can I get Krytox at Halfords or somewhere like that, or should i use the VW stuff instead?

Either from VW or the UK Distributor.

Hi

Mine is a March 07 and I havn't had any leaks ... well one, once, but I had twisted the rubber as I shut the drivers door. It hasn't leaked since and the water that did get in was minimal and just soaked into the carpet. More water got in via my very wet shoes!

Fingers crossed that the weather will be good in two weeks time!

Hi All,

.......Someone please reassure me!!

I'm getting a 2.0T FSI, DSG.

I have had mine six weeks now and 'no leaks' despite some torrential downpours. Theres often a little bit of water trapped under the bottom door seals but its not an issue. Its a convertible after all and theres always a compromise.
Its a joy to drive, the 2.0T is a fab engines, I never thought when I got the car that I would have so much fun with it. Driving with the top down is a real pleasure and totally addictive. You'll love it.

Hi
The only time the water gets into my Eos Reg May 0/7 is when I unlock the car in a heavy downpour and both windows go down a bit to let you get in the car, this also lets a lot of rain in on to the seat at the same time, I wish this function could be turned off, I know it's to clear the top window seals when you open the doors but if you haven't locked the car this window dropping doesn't happen and you still get in.

Thanks for the info.... If your car's have survived the rain of the past few weeks (was probably worse than here in London!), then that's good enough for me.. Still gonna buy some of that lubricant stuff from VW (About £30) and lube up the seals for good measure! :)

Thanks

Good thinking Simon,
An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure ... or in other words, an ounce of krytox is worth a bucket of water!

Spot on Bill, leaving work today around 5.30pm in pouring rain. Opened the drivers door to witness rain water piddling down from the passenger door window onto the floor. Only an egg cup full I suppose but pretty dramatic at the time and just water trapped between the passenger window and the roof seal. Ah well I suppose if the windows didnt drop we'd be fighting to open the door with the suction agains the glass!

Price of krytox lub has gone up. Bought a little bottle from the local vw dealers, price £37.55! No leaks yet in our eos (reg. Oct 06), but the seals look dry. I thought prevention is better than the cure. Must lubricate the seals at the earliest opportunity. Now just waiting for a sunny day so as to wash the car first.
Interestingly GBR website also recommend the use of krytox on volvo c70, vauxhall tigra, and smart cars. Just wondering whether the lubricant is cheaper in those other dealerships?

I'm gonna do mine as soon as I get the car!! I would imagine the stuff is great on any cabrio, or even anything which has something hard trying to form a seal against rubber seals... This would also include ALL sunroofs!

Hi Si,

Had our car for about a month now with no leaks, even after heavy rain.

Can echo all of the above. Water drips in when window drops. If boot lid is wet when you open it you get a run of water onto each catch for the boot cover. Only other problkem is if you drop the window to pay toll ( or when wife wants to get McDonalds at drive thro !!! ) the water runs in from the roof.

Still well worth it though !!

What a superb car !

Well said pbrom. The eos is not perfect but the pleasure of driving roof up or down well exceeds any of the minor irritations!

Ok, basically any convertibles roof is going to be less wide than the car due to the fact that the roof has to slide down into the car. So, if windows open or if doors open while raining, water is going to come in. The only time I have ever had leaks is when I take it through a touch free car wash, or if there is water on the seals when I open the doors. The water entry has been negligable, and the pleasure of driving this car more than makes up for it. I have also had water in the door come gushing out after a heavy rain, but the water was all trapped between the seals and did not get into the car. That occurred when I had the car parked with the trunk (boot for you brits) uphill from the doors. If the car is parked with the trunk downhill from the doors it does not happen.

It does on mine when its on a down hill slope. Still its not a real problem unless you had your feet about mid way along beneath the door. When you might get them soaked. But its never happened as you would be in the way of the door opening in the first place.
