: Colour choice: help!
lizzyh1980 01-30-2007, 09:34 PM Hi,
Firstly, "hello" from a first time poster!
I am in the process of trying to decide on what colour EOS to order and was wondering if anyone has any pictures or opinions. Choices are:
Black with red Vienna
Silver with red Vienna
Both will be on a TDI Sport with 18" Chicagos (I think the 18s add the finishing touch over the 17" Westwoods).
I've seen loads of pictures of silver ones in the same spec but none in black - my local showroom has one in black with cream leather but I think it looks a bit too "gangsta", and I am really sold on the red (plus I hear the cream is difficult to keep clean/gets dusty easily).
My only concern with the exterior colour is how easy the black paint will be to keep clean/scratching: black cars look great when clean but sometimes a bit shabby when dirty IMO.
Any thoughts gratefully received!
Thanks.

Got mine 10 days ago, Island Grey with Red nappa. I live in the country, and my last two cars were black, hope over experience, or maybe just thick. The silver is nice, but I got the grey as an in-between, and it works very well. I'll send you a PM
John
Wanda 01-31-2007, 12:24 AM Black looks good but it is very hard to keep clean. Seems to show scratches, swirls etc more than any other color. If you decide on black just know that there is extra work involved in taking care of it.

Lynne 01-31-2007, 08:26 AM Hiya guys!!!
I was between the same colour choices as you - i have pretty much always had silver or black cars. I opted for the black with the red interior and the 18" chicagos. I think the combo will look really good - but i haven't seen mine in the flesh just yet. It should be coming about the 17th March - which is about 2-3 weeks earlier than expected and just after my birthday so doubly exciting!
I suppose, i had only seen it in silver and although it is nice, i just wasn't convinced. When ordering mine, i saw a black v6 with red leather in the showroom and that just confirmed i had made the right choice!
I gues it's the same with any car, if you keep it clean it looks great but i do agree that black shows up more dirt / scratches. I will have to be doing a lot of car washing from now on!
Let us know what combo you decide to go with!

I opted for the silver as I think a 'fun' car like the Eos needs a light, bright metallic to look its best. Plus I wanted red Nappa leather. The combination looks terrific and I have been surprised how few I have seen in this colour (50 pct of all cars supplied in UK are silver..).
I would say 60 pct of the Eoses I have seen delivered by my dealer are black, have seen 1 dark blue, 1 Shadow blue and 2 Leonie (Eismeer) blue and nothing else.
Personally I think the colour choices offered are poor (they need some of Audi's colours!) as there should be a very light metallic blue, a light metallic green and some other 'fun' colours. But I'm happy with silver as it seems to look a bit sleeker than the dark ones I have seen plus it doesn't look dirty nearly as quickly as dark colours!
duckster1 01-31-2007, 04:28 PM Greetings
After spending years taking care of black cars, I'd emphatically go with the Silver and red combination!
VW has many photo's of that combination too.
Guess the Marketing folks really like it.

neh321 02-01-2007, 09:20 AM Yes, the publicity guys know cars in pictures look better in silver.
It's the way the light plays on the car to show all the highlights and shadows - the concave bits, the swage lines, the wheelarches etc, which you can't really see on a dark colour. It's why Concepts and Show Cars for the Motorshows are nearly always silver; black cars just look solid!
Anyway there are now just so many black cars coming on to the road it's replacing silver as the most popular colour. And what's more white is going to be the new black within a year or two. Yet VW don't even offer white for the Eos in the UK! In Germany it's the only colour which doesn't cost extra! And it's available on every other market. VW UK one step behind as usual.
Incidentally I remember about 5 years ago on a trip to Hamburg noticing how ubiquitous black cars were; simply every new Mercedes and Audi was black. Well now they're white!

For what it is worth, I think the Eos, as a fun car, is more suitable in a light colour. I have ordered in Leonie blue, and althogh I have yet to see this colour in the metal I'm assured that its a good choice. I pick up the car on the 1st of March (a day before my birthday!) so just 4 LONG weeks to go!
Incidently, I have yet to see an Eos on the road here in the NW of England. But, there seems to be many in Bonnie Scotland & California - that makes sense!

ps: glad we did not get the Super Casino! - more road congestion !
Lynne 02-01-2007, 07:57 PM thanks guys! me and my eos are totally offended at the hatred of its colour! hee hee! Nah, I do take your points about black cars....and I suppose I accept that it does look cool inh lighter colours. I have seen the Leonie blue in the flesh and it was really nice....had black leather.
Good that you are getting yours on 1st March Gravey, mine will be just after that and i am so excited! hoping to get mine on my birthday 17th but there is also a chance (all be it a bit slim) but i might get it before then! The original predictions were end of April / early May so delighted it is sooner!
Lynne 02-01-2007, 08:12 PM PS Wanda, the red looks really good too - my brother suggested getting it in red too but i went for black with red
Wanda 02-02-2007, 02:28 AM Thanks, I origionally went to the dealer to get the Eismeer blue but seen the red one on the show room floor and changed my mind...it just stands out an makes a statement. :)
Nigel Matthews 02-02-2007, 10:53 PM I chose black because my last 2 cars have been silver I was getting tired of seeing so many silver cars in the car park. I also like the contrast of the 18" Chicagos against the black paint- when it's clean it's simply the best and it's not exactly a big car to clean and anyway, I find cleaning the car quite theraputic.
I do like the red though its a fun colour and Wanda's looks great. I have a 8 year old son who is mad keen for me to get a red car next time. I'm just a bit conservative and worried I might look a bit "mid-life crisis"
Ive also seen Leonie Blue and Wheat Beige which is much nicer in real life than on the VW web site. When I ordered my Eos when there were no Eos (what is the plural?) in the showroom. For men there is the addtional concern when ordering a convertable that you don't want to look like a hairdresser and in the end a took the safer option.

Yay Nigel for defending black cars too!!!! :D
My brother has a red GTTDI golf so that was another reason i didn't go for red. It is lovely colour but we couldn't both have red cars, mine wouldn't stand out enough then! Lol!
I ordered my car this morning and have gone for a Sport 2.0 tdi in 'Deep Black' with the standard cloth trim. The paint looked stunning in the sunshine this morning. Awaiting reg transfer before delivery (one to two weeks I hope)
Now counting the days / hours. Have spent this afternoon clearing and cleaning my garage.....
neh321 02-05-2007, 10:20 AM I have nothing at all against black. Black cars look great (my wife has a metallic black car). Silver does reflect the light better though and I still think a convertible looks better in a light colour.. And a good 60/70 pct of the Eoses around here (and I've seen at least 10) are black.
The Eismeer (Leonie in UK) blue is nice too but probably looks better with cornsilk upholstery rather than black. What helps to make Eoses (think that will be the plural!) sleeker is larger wheels with 15 cm lower suspension. Without those they tend to look a bit high, like they're sitting on top of a trolley..
Personally think they look good in any colour so it's all down to personal choice.

Here's a picture of an Eismeer Blue (Leonie Blue) one for you to drool over!
Nigel Matthews 02-10-2007, 08:38 AM I,m sure the Eismeer blue you have in the states is different from the Loenie blue we have here in the uK.
The picture you have atached is from the Frankfurt Motor show I think?
The Leonie hee seems to be less bright and more of a steel blue than your picture.

Quite strange. Must be a geographical thing, all of them around here are silver. I've not seen ANY other colour (apart from my own one!!).
I do like the silver, but black and chrome (hence the chicago's) just does it for me. Also, as you can see on the introductions forum, I'm obsessed with cleaning my car, this would be the same whatever colour, but I do agree the black shows the dirt:( But it looks great clean, the depth of shine when polished is amazing:) .
My only dilemma was red or black leather, but this was chosen for me in the end by two factors--the wife wanted black and also I could get the black leather model before the Eos was officially released in the UK or wait 3(at least) months for the red. Easy choice, keep the wife happy and have a car that people stop and ask what it is because they've never seen one (and get the summer months of July, Aug, Sept driving continuously with the top down).
Pepino 02-10-2007, 01:15 PM I'm obsessed with cleaning my car
Good! Because yesderday I saw a smudge on the hood when I got home from work... so I used my fleece sweater sleeve pulled over my palm to see if it would just rub off. Uh oh, now it is a bigger smudge (with dust!). I'm sure people laugh when they drive by and see me washing my "clean car" but they didn't just see the smudges!
My friends agreed that black is hot, but dirty. I've always had a white or silver car, which I do understand the ease of the color. But like others, black has always seemed nice. Besides... shouldn't you get something lots of people say don't get? Isn't that the rule of opposition? :)

You're right - I took the picture at Frankfurt 05.
Leonie Blue is called Eismeer Blue in most other markets. Same colour. Just looks different under the lights. VW UK must have thought we couldn't pronounce 'Eismeer'! (for this who don't know any German it means "Ice-lake"!)
duckster1 02-12-2007, 12:46 PM Hey
All:
We have the Eismeer Blue in New Jersey, and the we also drove one in the UK last summer.
Both colors are the same!
We like the color a lot, there's not that many cars in that color/shade.

johnnyboyvan 02-17-2007, 03:11 AM  Hi all the eismeer blue receives soooo many compliments and looks fantastic with the beige leather interior. Our blue in Canada is not as neon as the showroom one,;) ;) so I love it. BLUE is the next SILVER according to lots of my research. When times are prosperous, like here in Vancouver, Canada, people opt for more colour. Here there are so few that people are asking me many questions and lots of finger pointing (in a good way). Regardless of what colour you select, you will have lots of fun with your new EOS... enjoy.
Paj45 02-17-2007, 11:02 AM As you can tell I have silver and I do believe when clean and in the sun it has a hint of blue to make it a little different to all other silver cars. I picked silver as it is an easy colour to sell on (open to offers in October!). Last year I had the Golf GTi Mk5 and this was in Met Black, that was stunning, but subtle when clean (the red ones look faster:p ).
White is becoming the new silver, here in Germany, the big luxury stuff is white and again the GTi does wear it well but I couldn't own one. Was Henry Ford right to do 1 colour?
V9 EOS 02-17-2007, 10:44 PM I found choosing the colour the hardest descision of all.
I asked peoples opinions the same as you and being a bloke was told the only colour I would get away with was Black with Black Leather in a cabriolet.
I love cleaning my cars luckily so Black is a great colour for me.
I have seen a light blue which for a lady I think looks great. :D
At first beause most of my cars have ben silver over the past few years I nearly went for the silver as it looked great in the showroom, however when I saw it outside in a different light it seemed to have a hint of powder blue so decided against.
swordfish 02-18-2007, 10:21 AM I asked peoples opinions the same as you and being a bloke was told the only colour I would get away with was Black with Black Leather in a cabriolet.
Not confident with your masculinity??? (Tongue in cheek---look at my car!!)
Love my black/black interior/exterior combo. I do know a few people have said they would imagine a dark interior being claustrophic, but I don't get this feeling at all.
If I'm being completely honest, the black leather was very much a matter of practicality over aesthetics, but I love it. I'm a train driver, the last thing I need is a light interior....I'm always cleaning the damn thing as it is!!
Oh, and for me the best colour Eos is white. Would I get one, no chance (not even an option over here) and I once had a white car and it was terrible to keep looking clean. I do think it looks gorgeous tho.
Pepino 02-20-2007, 03:35 PM I totally agree. I have the black/black combo and I love it. However my last car was white. The black is (I think) equally difficult to keep clean, but I like the dark interior much better.
The Eos is great in white. But I have no regrets with the black. So what if I have to clean it - don't mind a bit
californiakidlet 02-20-2007, 07:24 PM well i almost got the black with cornsilk interior, but was sold out from under me when we were waiting for the VIN number (car came before the paperwork, or so they said) and my salesman had a day off when it came in, was the 1st eos in the area and someone was snarking around. anyway next eos in was the midnight blue with cornsilk. and ya know i really like it. but your right the light interior does get dirty faster. the only other eos i've seen is the black one i test drove then was sold, never to be seen agiain. and my cars twin  ..... sold no less than by the same dealership that sold me mine, and to make matters worse that person works across the street from where i work. kind of eerie seeing that car drive by ...but i've never seen it out and about yet. what ever you do order the touch up pens, they are so worth it. (got hit with a couple of rocks from trucks ) but what ever the color, you'll love the drive.
elninho 02-21-2007, 12:23 PM silver with red vienna !
neh321 02-21-2007, 12:40 PM silver with red vienna !
You can't get Vienna in red!
If you want red you have to go for Nappa, which is about 50 percent more expensive...
