: Windblocker
Pepino 02-05-2007, 06:39 PM OK, so I got the dealer to drop on the price because upon delivery VW forgot to include the windblocker. Of course the little bird on my shoulder is screaming "discount!" or supply me the windblocker. There were only two Eos's on the lot and they wouldn't take the blocker out of the other unsold Eos because it is a V6 DSG and mine is a 2.0T, nor order me one. So they came off the price with the value of the blocker (about $500).
Now that you know the fun background, my question is where can I find a windblocker at a decent price (if possible). Well, actually, is it really worth it? Has anyone tried it with and without to see the difference? I found a website that has them for about $490.00, but I like my money too much to buy it without knowing I will love it.
Your thoughts please!
Wanda 02-05-2007, 07:23 PM I have tried my windblocker and it does make a difference...now if you don't have long hair it may not matter but with the wind screen down the hair was blowing in my eyes...with it up I had barely a hair out of place. :p
Andrew 02-05-2007, 11:30 PM Go back to your dealer and kick them in the ...
They should be able to order and sell you a blocker. All another VW dealer in the area and see what they say.
GurnyGub 02-05-2007, 11:45 PM Pepino
Saw them on ebay, and it is a good buy. Wanda must have her seat too high, my hair's ok (Sorry Wanda!). I drove on a sunny but chilly day, 6.5c, and the windblocker made a big difference. I figure that colder air, that you don't feel as wind in your face, is prevented from entering at the back seats and then flowing under and around the seats to you. The tops of my legs got chilly, but when I fitted the blocker, toasty! Scarf and gloves off. I think the horizontal mesh over the back seats is the kicker, as much as the screen behind your head. A definite plus for cooler days.

Lynne 02-06-2007, 08:34 AM I didn't order one......my dealer said he though they were a bit pointless unless I was going to be doing loads of 'high speed motorway driving' but now from you guys it does sound like it might be worth it - even if only for the bit of extra warmth!!!
where do you store it when you are not using it? am i right thinking it goes in the boot when the roof is up?!?!
I'm thinking of ordering it though accessories (£230UK I think which is not too bad).......do you all think its worth it?
Porker 02-06-2007, 08:41 AM where do you store it when you are not using it? am i right thinking it goes in the boot when the roof is up?!?!
Similar question: Can you leave the windbreak in position with the roof up? Or operate the roof with it still in position?

Lynne 02-06-2007, 08:45 AM these wind breaks are a mystery!
I just don't want to order it if I have to take it out of the car and store it every time i have the roof up! that would be a nightmare!
oh well, better get back to work now.....before i get the sack!!! i'll look again tonight to see what the general verdict on the breakers is!
elninho 02-06-2007, 08:54 AM i have it and it does make a diference,
i think it is very usefull and necesary.

I ordered one with the car and have used it a couple of times and whilst it does make a difference (just about totally draught-free with it in position) most of the time I can't be bothered as it's not particularly draughty without it anyway.. Probably helps most in the winter.
And Yes, you can leave it in position with the roof up. If you don't use the back seats you could leave it in all the time.
It comes in a leather-look plastic zip-up bag which just sits in the boot. Think the price they charge is extortionate for what it actually is though - a few bits of bent steel tube and some mesh.. But then since when were factory options good value?
trampdog 02-06-2007, 01:04 PM Hi, I do not have the windbreak/blocker fitted to my car.
With the roof down and windows up (ok, I know that it looks a bit poncy) then the buffeting is not bad. With the windows down, then the buffeting increases.
I know that I can order the windbreak/blocker that fits behind the front seats(at some extortionate cost), but can anyone explain what the windshield thing (not sure of correct name) does that is fitted to the top of the front screen. I have read about this in the owners book, but can not order one as it is a factory fit option!
What I mean, is will there be any benefit in only having the rear seat wind break, as I will never now be able to have the other option.
I just wondered what benefit, if any, I was missing.
Paul..
Pepino 02-06-2007, 01:59 PM Hey Paul,
This I do have and seem to kind of understand. I think what you are talking about is the screen that pops up at the top of your windshield. Right now it is too cold here in the south US for the open top  but on the way home from the office I like to enjoy some fresh air. When the sunroof is open, the mesh blocker pops up by squeezing the center of the windshield above where the sunroof closes. I used this yesderday with the sunroof open all the way. It can be noisy, but if you lower your rear windows a mere inch or two it is an extremely pleasant ride and you don't have the same noise.
Hope this helps. I do think the blocker on the windshield is standard nomatter what trim you have. I actually discovered mine by accident after I bought it. But you know, I have no idea if the "standard issue" in the US is different than overseas. I'm pretty upset they aren't going to introduce the TDI here in the Eos. Good luck.

Pepino's right - it's for use with the sunroof; and it's standard on all Eoses
trampdog 02-06-2007, 04:43 PM Pepino's right - it's for use with the sunroof; and it's standard on all Eoses
Thanks Neh321 and Pepino for the info.
I could not find it on my car, the last time I looked was after reading about it in the manual.
iIasked at the dealers, and they said that it was not standard on my 2.0 TFSi, but was a factory fit item and only available to order at the time a car is being built !
They offered to sell me the thing that sits over the rear seats, but I was not sure about the benefits of using this without the other.
However, I shall look again at the manual and at the car, but probably not until Saturday, as it is still dark when I set of to work, and dark when I return home, and probably need to have agood look in daylight.
I too enjoy driving with just the sunroof open, but at about 40mph, the noise and buffetting are more than I would really like.
Thanks again.:)
Paul..
GurnyGub 02-06-2007, 05:05 PM Paul,
Yeah, you've had the popup all the time! It was one of the things that delayed the launch of the car, apparently, the sunroof wind noise, until they thought of the popup. It also keeps back seat passengers a bit more sheltered. If you read my post above re the wind blocker, you'll see what I think, FWIW.
John

Sorry but your dealer's talking b*ll*cks! They are a standard fit on all Eoses! Have another look.
Pepino 02-06-2007, 06:44 PM I just hope the windshield windblocker holds up... I can't seem to stop playing with it. Pop up.... pop down... pop up... er, well.. you get the idea.:D

I think that is just part of the service provided by VW. I am sure i saw an ad for a sales job there and it said 'ability to bullsh*t and talk b*ll*cks essential'
Still, I can't complain too much, I keep coming back to VW because I love the cars!!!
Thanks everyone for all the info about the wind breaks......I think I am going to try it without and then might decide to order one if I start to get blown away a bit too much. Sure it will be worth the money but we Scots are renound for being tight!!!! :o
GurnyGub 02-07-2007, 01:37 PM Lynne,
I didn't see any on ebay last night, but as you won't need it for a while, no harm to keep looking. I think the last one I saw was £80-£100 cheaper. Mind the wee pennies!
John
Lynne 02-07-2007, 01:55 PM thanks! will have a look out too and see what there is

Actually it's all they ever do...!
eismeerblue 02-08-2007, 04:37 PM When my wife and I tested the Eos in Grand Junction, Colorado, the outside temperture was in the mid 40s (Grand Junction is on the western edge of the rockies). We drove it with the top up for a few miles, then put the top down for a few more miles. I was wearing shorts and a t-shirt and my leg were quite cold from the wind coming between the door and the seat. We stopped again and installed the wind blocker. Back on the road the wind was blocked from coming around the seat and with the window up, heater full blast and the seat heaters set on 5, we were very comfortable.

eismeerblue 02-08-2007, 04:54 PM Folks, when I went to my dealer they were very thorough explaining the car and how it worked. They demonstrated the the pop-up wind breaker, both with the sunroof open and with the top down. They also pointed out the "standard" wind blocker in the trunk and told us how it worked. And, as I said in my last post, when we installed it on the road, it is very effective. Since we do not haul anyone in the back seat, we leave the wind blocker in place most of the time (it hides things stored in the back seat) and just flip up the part behind the head rests when the top is down and flip it back when the top is up.
Pepino 02-08-2007, 07:00 PM EXCELENT NEWS!!
I decided to email VW corporate this morning. They sent me an automated reply that I would get a response in 2 days or so from a rep at the headquarters... I provided my VIN and explained that I think I should have the rear windblocker included with my Eos.
TWENTY MINUTES LATER...
I get a call from corporate... the dealer sales manager for my city... and a message from my salesman... all within 10 min of eachother. The manager said he got a call from corporate and was instructed to issue me a rear windblocker free of charge. Corporate said all Eos's sold (I assume everywhere but could be just US) are standard for the rear windblocker.
I'm going to pick it up today after work.
SO.... if you don't have one... give corporate a call or email. I am very impressed by the customer service of corporate. My dealer was horrible, but they will do whatever the big boss says I suppose!
Thanks for all of your input and suggestions!

swordfish 02-09-2007, 03:03 PM Front and rear windblocker- the front one is built in and should be standard worldwide...it is not an option. The rear one is is optional in some countries.
Incidentally, in the UK brochure the rear wind breaker is only listed as a factory fit option at £230. When I tried to get one aftermarket, they quoted me WAY more. I got the brand new one from the managers newly delivered car for £230!!
Oh, and I think it's a godsend..I only take it out when I have passengers.

Hi Swordfish, I know that this sounds stupid, but how do I get the front windblocker to pop up ?
I can not see/or feel anything to press.
Paul..
swordfish 02-09-2007, 05:31 PM With the top down or the sunroof back, press in the position indicated by the arrow.

On my car, the middle of the front windblocker is slightly lower where the catch lies. This is where I press, once to raise, once to click back into place.
trampdog 02-09-2007, 07:27 PM Hi Swordfish, many thanks for the reply and the pictures. If it stops raining, then I will have a look/try it over the weekend.
Cheers.

trampdog 02-11-2007, 06:05 PM Hi Swordfish and Pepino
Iv'e found the front windblocker today. I feel like a right chump. :o
and it works ok.
but in my defence, I did ask the dealers about this and they told me that it was not fitted to my particular car.
Also, in defence of the dealer (not something I like to say) but the owners manual shows it as an option, and it was shown as a factory fit option on the sales brochure/options list that I had (which I now seem to have lost/misplaced)
It was on my list of options that I was going to add to my Eos, but in the end I bought the car that was sat in the showroom and therefore could not not have any factory fit options etc
any how, it does not matter now.
Many thanks once again for the help and info and pics from both of you.:)

Regarding the rear wind blocker, where is it typically stowed? I haven't been able to find it on my '07

In the summer it's in the boot and in the winter it's in the garage. Yep their ain't nowhere to stow it out of harms way in the car. Mick
Hayman002 05-27-2011, 09:23 AM or in my case...in the winter it's fitted to the rear seat, and in the summer it's in the garage...or maybe boot.... :-)
