All,

I have done testing and ESSO Super is by far the most responsive and smooth fuel in my car.... Better even than Shell V-Power!!

Please Vote which you find is best!!

Thanks

Never been a fan of Esso (for no particular reason), probably because there seems to be more Shell and BP stations around here. The price charged at BP is more that the Shell garage so I use to V-Power and have found it excellent but I am only comparing with standard unleaded that I used for about the first 6 months of ownership.

The Shell garage is my local one hence my choice of V POWER. But there is an ESSO garage nearby too, so I may try their Super next time and see if I can feel a difference.

I think ESSO in the USA is called EXXON or something like that...

I took the liberty to speak to a dealer today about my petrol dilemma...

As soon as I mentioned the 2.0 T-FSI, he instantly said that customer feedback clearly put the ESSO Super as the best!! So, I guess there is little doubt on that petrol for that engine... So, now all those people using V-Power, you should try a tank of Esso Super and let us know how good you find it... (Whether you notice any difference)... For me the difference was very quickly apparent... Idle was smoother and acceleration MUCH faster! :)

The dealer was talking about Golf drivers by the way, but obviously it is exactly the same engine, so the same facts do apply!

We here in the US dont get Esso. WE get either Exxon or Mobil depending on where you live. Shell and BP appear to dominate the market. There are many brands which seem to be regionalized such as Citgo, Phillips66, Texaco, Diamond/Shamrock, Chevron and others. Generally I use Shell or Citgo.

I believe Exxon is ESSO....

More than just a passing similarity!! ;)

Add diesel to the poll.
Might get a couple more participants. :D
Wouldn't help your poll but!!

I used to buy BP Optima but had to draw a line when it came up to 99p/litre and beyond. I did not find that the difference was great enough to warrant such a higher price compare to the Supermarket fuels. Neither was I convinced that I was getting more miles to the gallon.

Would like to contribute towards the poll but have failed to find the voting button (or am I losing my marbles?) :(

Ignore the end bit of my previous post as the Voting button suddenly appeared out of nowhere (may be it is because I hadn't logged on at the time). And yes, I am definitely losing my marbles...

Where I mentioned about BP Optima, I meant BP Ultimate of course.

So far, it looks like you are flogging a dead horse Simon. Not much interest in answering this survey, and nobody wants to use your Esso! Maybe you need to post a little harder?

Or maybe you should concentrate on your new position as "Technical Adviser" and we encourage Gavin to return as our "Polls Coordinator" Come on Gavin, show us how!

Maybe you're right... I'm still going to use Esso, so my car will just have to be a bit faster than everyone elses! ;)

FYI, I posted a couple more vids in the video section about the DSG...

I would vote but there isn't a box that suits what I do.
I put in any 97/98 octane but I'm not bothered what brand at all as I don't believe it makes much (any) difference - and neither do Which? magazine after exhaustive scientific tests..

I suspect you are right! I have seen comparable tests of same/similar companies in Canada/US (Esso,Shell,PetroCanada) and results are virtually the same for same octane rating. So, as you do, I always go for high octane rating but go to dealer which is either most convenient or competitive price.

The Petrols themselves are basically the same, but the fact of the matter is that the higher end ones have more advanced fuel additive formulations....

Ergo, my understanding is that since most premium fuels have virtually the same additives, then if the octane ratings are the same so is the performance. I happen to use Esso Premium, but not because it is better than PetroCanada or Shell, but because it is closer and cheaper than either of the other "Premiums".

Perhaps there is more variation in the UK.... Maybe we pay twice as much for rubbish petrol!! ;)

I don't think so .. unfortunately for you, just more in taxes! I suspect we might indeed have even more additives ... laden with "stuff" to prevent ice line freezing in extreme cold weather.

True... Still going to use Esso though ;)
