So, I'm trying convince my wife that we could totally get away with a two door car and a toddler. And out of the sky blue, she says "Oh ... that's a chick car. Why do you alway pick chick cars??"

What?!?

Do you all think this looks like a chick car? I mean it's not a New Beetle convertible. Thoughts ...

Definitely a chick car! :D :p

i think its definatly UNISEX! lol...not as girly as a ford street KA or like you mention a bettle....BUT i have had some abuse of a lot of people...a few as im driving by!...but at least with this convertible if you think your in a area of "abuse" you can crack the roof back up and nobody would know ;) unlike a soft top......

I think it is unisex, but can be preferentially gendered based on color perhaps. Any guy that doesn't get a kick out of the transformer-like nature of the top going up or down doesn't have enough testosterone in him anyway. Seems like this board is made up of an equal number of male and female owners.

A Beetle Cabriolet is a chick's car, as is a Nissan Micra CC (especially in pink!) but I don't see an Eos as one (perhaps because I'm a bloke and I drive one!)

The Eos was voted 'Womens car of the year' by evecar.com. I got a lot of stick from collegues at work saying I was getting a girly car.

I can't see it myself. I reckon a Black Eos with the roof down is as manly as it gets. Especially with my Abba CD blasting out !!!

ABBA with the Dynaudio................nice!

I dont see mine as a chick car especially as I have the black body work with red interior however some colours in the range I could see our colour stylists at work calling 'feminine'.

Not as girly as a beetle cabrio though... borrowed one as a loan car and really liked the happy feeling when driving it however could not own one.

All cabrios' seem to get labelled as "chick cars". Of the mainstrain models, I think the EOS, and the Volvo are the 2 least feminine, not that a "chick" would look out of place in either.

A bloke would certainly look out of place in a Micra, or Tigra though, IMO.

What could be more "blokey" [Oz slang for macho masculinity] than driving an Eos with the top down with Jeff Wayne's "War of the Worlds" cranked up?

My personal preference though is doing this with classic surf music from the 1960's at full volume - some samples of Australian classic surf music are below:

The Altlantics - Bombora

The Atlantics - The Crusher

The Delltones - Hangin' Five

Oldies but Goodies!

Hi

Well let me say that if one is so petty as to discuss the gender of a car then their open - minded proclamation is inept. Love the EOS :D whether male or female. My ice blue beauty is stunning and needs to be treated with dignity and care. Cheers from Vancouver, home of the 2010 Winter Olympics.;)

This is a classic thread

I laughed when I read the title of this thread.

Lets be honest, the EOS is a definitely a classic. Its in the list of cars which are top of their class - that clearly says its not a chicks car.

Chicks, if you want to lay claim to the Eos, take the smaller engine ones (no offence to guys with 1.4's etc) - but the 2.0's & the 3.2 V6's, leave them to us guys.

With a thread like this, its all about a little contraversy :D

Just about every time someone has pulled along side and complimented our Eos, it was a guy. One guy was driving a truck at the time.

Abba???????? Gotta be Boston, Led Zepplin or something similar.

Aloha All,

I think it is a beautiful sexy looking car with a gurrr face on it. I think of it as my little girl with the soul of a tigeress. She may look tame, but can be a real beast to others on the road.
It was made to enjoy no matter who drives it.
From fun in the sun Hawaii!

Abba !!!

Whoops !!! I was only joking about the Abba CD. I'm much more at home with Rainbow, Green Day, Foo Fighters and the such blasting out.

I do however respect the rights of those people who like Abba to play it loud and proud (like the wife when She borrows my car !!!)

The Eos does seem to be Best Mens, Best Ladies and Best Gay car of the year so its pretty much covered all bases.

One of my colleagues on our fighter weaponry course bought a new Renault 5 at a huge discount, [we were not hugely paid at the time and it suited his purposes], because the dealer had it in the showroom for an age. It was pale pink, so he called it his LRDG vehicle, and claimed it would be difficult to see rust on it! As he later became the boss of a Lighting squadron he had no self-esteem hang-ups! Horses for courses, as they say.

Lay off us 1.4 owners

Lay off us 1.4 owners please. You guys (and girls) have probably never driven one so have no idea how they handle. Very nicely is the answer. OK, so it might not match the bigger engines for 0 - 60 etc but for everyday driving the 1.4 with the turbo is very very very good.
On a boring note its also less expensive to run, insure and buy in the first place but still gives the full Eos motoring pleasure.

So, no more knocking them please

It's also a lot quieter than a diesel and seems to be more reliable too :)

Well the conversation with my wife about the Eos continues. I tried to explain to her that the Eos is a "tough" car since it has the upgraded turbo engine that we enjoyed so much in our Beetle. She listened thoughtfully ... and then asked me if it also included a tampon holder in the cabin. OUCH!! :(

At any rate, she conducted a rather informal poll and most of her friends concluded that the Eos (and indeed most convertibles) are girly. I frankly don't care ... I still want one.

But on a more practical note, she feels VERY strongly that a two door car will not work with a kid .... so think I may be looking at the CC as a divroce isn't worth it ... at least at this point. :)

In recent decades, roadsters and convertibles have become more associated with women drivers. Chris Harris did a review of the new Porsche Boxster S and asked whether a guy could actually have one!?! A sub 3,000 lb mid-engined car with over 300 hp!

So, it may be that open cars take a one point hit. If so, front drivers will likely take another compared to let's say a Mustang GT convertible. With the Boxster a target, I don't know that any open car is immune. You'll hear similar comments about the SLK (unless it is the AMG model). For some guys, only a black or silver truck will do.

Personally I think the Eos is gender neutral but in my area I have to admit I see more female Eos owners than male. That said, I get far more compliments on the car from men than women. Black, red interior, transformer-like conversion to an alternate mode - what could be more manly than that?:D

Last week I picked up my 4 yr old daughter from preschool. The top was up as it was parked. She asked for the top down. So from the sidewalk as we were walking to the car, I used my fob (and SmartTop) and started the top down. There were a bunch of 5-7 yr old boys on the playground who saw the top going down and started calling for others to come watch "this really cool car change!" Guys like gadgets :D

Any bloke who thinks an EOS is a chic's car either has his knuckles dragging on the ground or his lady won't lat him have one. I have had Turbo Supra's, V8's, a car that looked like a Batmobile and also a Range Rover, but the EOS 147kw Turbo is by and far the best car I have ever owned and I am yet to get a negative comment from either male or female. In the past you would open the bonnet and see the blokes all gather around, now I just flick the roof switch and both sexes stop to look. This car is the best of all worlds, it handles well, it's comfortable, fuel efficient, in sprots mode it is very quick, is great for a pose and for the price there is nothing that comes close.
My Vote - Definitely not a chic car
