Default Questions for an EOS Buyer

I've just ordered my EOS. I'm based in Manchester, UK and have a delivery date of late April.

Sport TDi.
Diamond White with Red Nappa.
2-zone Climatronic
DVD Nav with Dynaudio
MDI
Xenon
Steering Wheel Controls.
Cruise Control
Wind Deflector

I had a test drive recently of the new 2010 model and noticed the new heater controls and white ldash ighting on all the dials. Also loved the new climatronic that displays on the DVD Navitaion screen.

Just had a couple of questions that the brochure doesn't answer.

1. The new DVD NAV RNS-510. It says in the new EOS price quide that it includes Voice Rocognition. I know that the newer firmware will do this from reading around, but does the new 2010 NAV come with a microphone?

2. Where do you store the Wind deflector?

3. As I got the leather seats I couldn't order the Winter Pack with heated washer jets. As I have heated seats would the heated washed jets of been included? Are they electrical heaters? Any good?

Hi Cityboy and welcome to the forum. That is a very nice spec you've chosen and just in time for summer .

I'm afraid the only thing I can help with is your Q2 - I usually leave my wind deflector in place with the upright part folded down. You can leave it upright, there is no problem with the roof clearing it, it just reduces rearward visibility a bit. If you want to be able to use the rear seats then the deflector can be folded in to 'quarter' size flatpack and placed in a soft case that comes with it and the whole thing put in the boot/trunk. When I do that I usually push the deflector up against the rear seats so that nothing heavy placed in the boot will bend it.
I'm sure others will help out with the other questions.

Good luck with your Eos - I'm sure you will enjoy it.

The heated water jets I have not found useful the washer liquid still freezes in the tubes in very cold weather. It was part of the winter pack so was not really an option to turn down.

I had enormous trouble with this one when I ordered mine! They wouldn't let me order a winter pack because they said there would be a conflict as I already had heated (leather) seats and the heated washer jets are part of both. They said if I tried to order the winter pack the computer would simply stop the car being built...
I wrote to VW UK and to VW in Germany too (I'd met the engineer in charge of Eos development so took it up with him!) to get them to clarify, but never got anywhere. So I ordered without the winter pack hence got no heated washer jets.

I've since found out this is complete rubbish. Plenty of people have leather and the winter pack; the computer just knocks out the price of the heated jets from the winter pack because you already have them...

You guys have been told load of ..... It might be that the localized packaging in your respective countries causes problems but not because of the factory.

Have leather, heated seats, winter pack the lot... Buy must say that leather seats are really cold during winter and even with the heated seats it takes time to get them warm. I am of course talking about temperatures below -10 centigrade, but still.

A car dealer talking cr*p? Nah... can't be...!
Yes, I find the seats very slow to warm up too (half way to work by the time they're warm) but others on this forum have said how quick they are...
Mind you, it certainly doesn't get anywhere near as cold here as it does in Espoo! It always makes me really smile when the media here talk about 'Arctic conditions' when it gets down to -1! They have no idea what 'cold' really means; I remember being in -43C once when overnighting in Ahtari!!

Hi Cityboy,

Your car sounds lovely, you must be looking forward to having her.

I had the same problem with the winterpack, but I'm very happy with what I have.

Can I just ask what MDI is?

Thanks everyone! Three three months is going to take forever! Still at least I should be timing the weather. I think I've viewed every youtube video I can find about the EOS and accessories.

Well it doens't sound like I'm missing a lot with the Winter Pack.

MDI is the IPOD interface. I have an Iphone always loaded with my music so it makes sence.

Think I'll be buying a tracker and bluetooth interface to the SatNav they look cool. Used to have a Parrot in my old car, but the VW connected ones look better.

Cityboy - I look forward to seeing you driving your EOS in and around Manchester

Although leaving your roof open (your tracker post) is a little risky in Manc land, not because of the scroats, but it generally rains LOL (I've had to do quick dashes out when I've left it open in glorious sunshine )

Instead of leaving the top open, why don't you fit smartTOP module so could open and close the roof with the standard remote keyfob... Cheap and very easy to install. Also leaving the top open while parked it the sun shine makes the seats damn hot, especially leather.

Much nice to have cooler seats and it also looks cool to have the car open it's top while you walk towards it and close the roof while you walk away.

For the motors it really does not make any differense at all is the engine running or not. It is the battery that takes the strain, just make sure that yhe battery is in good condition and is charged (don't only drive short distances). Otherwise no problems as all.

Have smarttop module an loving it, nice to have the car begin opening the top when coming out of the house and just being ready when have walked to the car. Also I never get tired of looking at the top mechanism doing it's business.
