Which way did you go on the tow bar install? OEM new bumper and paint, or cut the old one? Which tow bar & ball kit? Any photos?

* OEM new bumper reinforcer
* Original rear outer bumper panel cut (which worried me initially but it is not too noticeable and saved me megabucks in not buying a new part)
* Detachable Westfalia removable towbar, professionally fitted (by PF Jones)

Attached is the only photo I've got available at the moment.

The car is pretty clever. When I have the towbar fitted and engage reverse gear the rear parking sensors are de-activated and a towbar graphic appears on the lcd screen in place of the normal 'radar chart'.

Fully recommend PF Jones.... very professional fit and no problems since.

Thanks that is exactly the way I was thinking of going. What put me off was the seemingly enormous cut out required in the bumper for both ball and power socket. But then I worked out for occasional trailing if you didn't mind the trailer power socket tucked up behind the bumper you could use a smaller cutout just for the locking ball. Yes they fitted the CANbus controller which links into the OE electronics to disable the parking sensors and put up the trail light on the dash.- Thanks a lot.

The power socket swings through an arc so you can tuck it up out of the way when not in use and bring into line with the cut when you need it. When I was sizing up the job the replacement outer bumper with the removable face-plate was by far the most expensive item. I thought I'd have the cut done and see if I could live with it. It is really not that noticeable.

It's not just the replacement bumper but getting it painted as well. I estimated around 800 excluding the bar kit!

The OE replacement bumper has a box molded in behind the cutout to stow the electric socket (s), but I thought you could live without that, which is what you did - Thanks for coming back.
