Default What Is This Metal Piece?

I was cleaning my drains out this afternoon and I saw this metal piece sitting where the convertible top rests when down. What is it, where does it go? I couldn't find where it came from.

It is the spring retaining clip for the luggage cover in the boot[trunk] - it sits in a recess at the back bottom edge of the cover and clips onto a bracket on the floor.

You should be getting a MFD warning the cover is not closed when you attempt to close the roof as the clip is fitted with a sensor to confirm the cover is in position to allow the roof to open and be stored properly and safely. The clip has a tendency to come loose and fall out if you open the luggage cover using one hand and lifting it from the centre of the cover - best to use both hands and lift the cover using both sides to avoid bending the cover which then allows the clip to be pulled out by the resulting misalignment of the clip and bracket.

We had this problem and it was fixed under warranty by using an adhesive to bond the clip to the cover and we have had no problems since using the two hand lift.

Default Thanks

I am not getting a message that there is anything wrong with the luggage cover. The two hinges that hold it up are there. And so is the groove with the movable piece the luggage cover sits into when it is down to tell the car it is down. I can't find where this piece is missing.

Thank you for your input. I appreciate it.

Mine came off the cover last year and I have just left it out, no errors from the switch. It was more of a pain to keep in place than it was worth.

When my clip falls out, I don't get an error, either.

It slides into a slot on the vertical sides of the cargo cover. I only have one left. LOL!

It is designed to grab the pin in the floor of the trunk. Once you've found where it goes, I find it easiest to lift the cargo cover up and install it that way.

Be aware that the clip is directional and will ONLY install one way. Looking at the slot (a flashlight helps since you're under the truck lid) will easily show you how to position the clip. Then press it it. Sometimes you have to squeeze the two ends together to get it into the slot. Once it starts, it easily slides the rest of the way in.

Good idea on gluing it in, silvershadow!

Mine were always popping out and then the roof would not go down. So I used some sugru putty to hold them in.

Part 76 in this diagram:

I believe there are two clips. One either side.
