If V.W give100k miles warranty on their replacement units you can suspect they have changed or fixed something? You may be able to get your unit repaired or replaced with a repaired (upgraded/modified) unit. - but you won't get that from a V.W stealer I guess trying to transplant a used stick change unit would be too complicated?

AFAIK VW donít supply any spares for their DSG boxes other than mechatronic units, clutch kits, DMF,s, and service items. Luckily most DSG,s are very reliable on the whole, itís usually the mechatronic unit which fails first as the rubber solenoid seals harden with age. The early 1.4 engines fitted with the 7 speed wet clutch had problems with clutch pack shims failing, that was sorted by 2013?.

Our reciently aquired 2010 EOS with DSG has this chuga chuga chuga when starting off from a standing start. The transmission functions perfectly as long as I don't come to a complete stop. The dealer we purchased it from says, "they all do that." but I find it very uncomfortable to drive in traffic. Should I be finding an independent VW mechanic?

Your DSG gear box should be smooth as silk, if there is a judder it could be the clutches and if you can feel the gear changes in normal driving mode itís probably the mechatronic unit playing up IMHO.

Thanks Mick,

I think I knew the answer before I asked. I made an appointment with a local transmission shop to have a look at it.
I have a feeling this is going to be selling a kidney on flea bay expensive.

Good news, the transmission shop put it on their machine and checked the function of the transmission and it is functioning normally. However I've got a bad coil pack, the engine is shuddering causing confusion within the transmission. It is only doing this just off idle. Booked it in for a tune up and having the bad coil replaced. yipee

Nice one glad your problem is being sorted much more cheaper than a new gearbox.

It gets even better. It was 2 injectors causing the misfire not the coil pack and they are covered by an extended warranty from VW. Total Cost, Zero

Update, The chugging upon take off came back the next day. I couldn't find an independent transmission shop that would touch the DSG so I ended up back at the dealer. They told me this morning (they had the car 3 weeks) the mechatronic unit was replaced and it "runs like a dream" now. Time will tell. repair was just shy of $2500
