Hi there

Well I have a problem with the roof.

Error code 03053 - Sensor B post left, locked.

The roof refused to work the other day. Said on dash to contact service agent.
I plugged in Carista and got this code. After resetting the code(s), the roof went down and back up perfectly. Tried again and it flagged up the error again so I tried Googling the code.

Got this from Ross Tech...... http://wiki.ross-tech.com/wiki/index.php/VW_Eos_(1F)_Convertible_Top

When DTCs 03053, 03055, and/or 03057 are stored, see VW Tech Tip TT 61-12-04 which explains a ground splice problem near the left rear convertible top drain.

Anyone have any pointers? Or I'm I looking at a near 1k miles round trip to https://www.caymanautos.co.uk/common-problems-volkswagen-eos-cabriolet/

Thanks for any info.

Hi there

1st update. Having thought about it bit, I've decided that an expert eye is needed, so I'm taking it down to Cayman Autos in the morning.
Heck of a drive (overnight), but what's the point of convertible that doesn't!
They're confident they'll fix tomorrow, so I'll update afterwards.

Hi there

I have a working roof again.
It was the same broken wire as in the link above. Bit of a nightmare to find and fix, but all done.

Have to give a shout out to all at Cayman Autos.
Very professional service.

Happy again.

Grazie

There are quite a lot of wire splices inside the roof wiring loom which can be difficults to locate. It's another example of computer assisted wiring loom designed for minimum (copper) wire. This can be a serious cause of unpredictable Gremlin roof system failures on the EOS.

I spent a lot of time and patience opening up both sides of the roof wiring loom to find the joins, then solder spliced and sleeved every joint. They also have a couple of small PC fan type connectors for front sensors hidden under the loom wrap which I removed and solder spliced. They could have used a small amount of extra wire running down to the roof controller or some place accessible and commoned wire joins there.
