O9 Eos

Hi Everyone,
I purschased my brand new EOS last Sunday 1st March 09 plate. I took it home overjoyed only to be woken 5 times in the night with the alarm going off. The same happened on Tuesday at 5am in the morning. Bought it back to VW on Wednesday and they sent me to the service centre. I left the car with them only for them to ring back and tell me the sensor is faulty and they dont have a part in the country and dont when they will get one. It could take months. Do i want a hire car or my EOS back with the alarm going off everynight. This is carzy. Any suggestions on what i can do about this sistuation? Very unhappy customer!

Hi everyone,

I purschased my brand new EOS on Sunday 1st March 09 plate. Took the EOS home only to be woken at midnight with the alarm going off. Checked all the doors and boot, no problems. Tuesday 5am in the morning the alarm goes off. Happened about ten times. I have had the car for three days. Went to VW Yesterday and they sent me to the service deptarment only to be told the sensors are faulty. It gets better. They dont have the part in the country and dont know when they will be able to get the part. When i asked how long they said it could take months! Options offered to me was to take my EOS bak with me(so i can wake the neighbours everynight with the alarm) or have a hire car (wont be an EOS) until they can fix it. This is appauling service, any ideas what i can do considering the car was faulty from the first day i bought the car? Thankyou!

I am presuming you have pruchased it from a VW dealer.

The car was not fit for the purpose for which you bought it and you cannot be expected to wake your neighbours every night until this is fixed. Advise them that due to the time element if they cannot fix the vehicle in a reasonbale time you will seek a full replacement on a 3 day old car. if it was an authorised VW dealer call the VW customer care line direct and advise them of you circumstances and the attitude of your dealer.

They should be able to a/ pull a fuse, b/ pull a wire from a relay or from the siren (assuming the alarm doesn't use the horn) c/ pull a wire from the sender that is triggering the alarm, or in some other way disable the noise in a way that doesn't disable the car.

Don't forget the better quality alarm systems have internal backup batteries in the horn/siren/squawk box which keep the alarm functioning if a thief tries to silence the alarm by the methods you mention. An alarm system that can be quickly disabled is effectively useless.

Over to the VW specialists on this - my partner and her Eos are away at the moment and I cannot get to the owner's manual to see if there is any information on disabling the alarm.

There is a button to disable the sensors on the drivers door. It would need to be set each time the car was locked, as I think each press is only good for 1 lock.

It's designed for when you leave somebody/thing in the car that's likely to be moving about, but want to lock it up.

Thats bad news about the car. It should be a happy time getting a new car. Its madness that they don't have the part in the country.

It would appear there are two seperate threads running on this.

ADRIAN82 also opened one up Eos 09 Alarm problem

Derek

Yes - he has started one in the UK regional section presumably to try and "suss out" a specialist who can do the job for him and a second in the Technical Q&A section to try and find the cause.

Will combine the two threads in the Q&A section as this is more appropriate.

Same problemo as me then! Awaiting carpet which is "not in the country" yet either - I've been waiting since 24 January for a bit of carpet - if I were you I wouldn't accept the hire car and would request your money back. Not sure where you would stand with this though as I think you need to give them three opportunities to repair before they will return your cash (although as it is within such a short space of time i'm not sure if this is different?)

Also I have the number 08000 833 914 for customer services - believe me I have been calling them every day for the last month and a half on that number! You will be given a case reference and a specific person to talk to (albeit sometimes they are as useless as a chocolate fireguard!)

Let us know what happens guys and if any of you hold out for a part, how long it takes to arrive! Ask that they send it with the carpet that is heading to Kent next Wednesday! ;) :p

Similiar problems

Hi, I bought a used March 2009 VW Eos model last October and had been very happy with it. However, a few weeks ago the alarm went off in middle of the night and repeatedly did so despite me checking every door and boot. All that was unique was that it was a very cold below zero night and I was parked parallel inbetween 2 other cars (I did not think it was closer than any usual).

I had thought that was only event but this morning, it has occurred twice (and temp was about 1 degree this morning and now warmer) and last time in my work car park.

I am bringing it in for service soon but am concerned if this is a problem that cannot be easily solved?

I got woken up in the middle of the night a few times and couldn't work out why the alarm went off - until I realised it was the sat-nav holder falling off the screen setting off the motion sensor! Once I pulled it off and left it in the armrest locker it cured the problem!

Strange that we don't have motion sensor alarm in the US.

Ok, I did not realise we had a motion sensor either! I do have a hands-free phone holder and did not think it had moved but I will try moving it to see if that solves the problem. Thanks!

I had this sort of alarm problem when I got my '08 Eos two years ago. I could prevent it by turning off the internal sensors by using the button on the driver's door, as nail-z-gull says in his post. The long term fix was for the dealer to reduce the alarm sensitivity to its lowest level. There are three levels and the default one the car is initially set to is the highest.
Having said that, I've just started to get the occasional false alarm when there has been a cold night followed by warm sun the next morning (the car is parked outside).

ours also goes nuts sometimes. I tell myself it's probably an ant or a bug but it's damn annoying

Temperature difference inside the cabin can set the alarm. During winter I use a cabin heater to heat the car up in the mornings and it has the tendency to set the alarm, even when the alarm is set to least sensitive setting.

To disable the cabin sensor you can push the button on the drive side door or push the lock button on the remote twice when locking the car. The second push disables the cabin sensor.
