Hi

Anyone got a 1.4TSI engine in their Eos?

I've just ordered one for delivery in March (from VW UK stock). I've already got a Touran with a 1.4TSI engine, albeit the Touran has slightly higher power output thanks to having a supercharger as well as a turbo charger. So far (almost a year) I've been very pleased with it.

I read the Eos 1.4TSI road test at http://uk.cars.yahoo.com/car-reviews/car-and-driving/volkswagen-eos-1.4-tsi-1005836.html where it seems to come out pretty well.

We don't get this option in the US. I read the report and noted that the car is a tad slow on acceleration (which I would expect from a 1.4L). However, it wasn't that bad and the mileage sounds great (42 MPG). We also have a Prius that gets around 45 MPG, but it is a BORING ride. I almost never drive the car since it also seems to make a "ultra-left wing statement" about conserving gas. Now if I had the 1.4 that gets almost the same mileage, that would be my RIDE.

Also, on a nice "top-down" day, who cares how fast you can to. I'm sure you will enjoy this car as much as I like my 2.0.

I personally would not like the Eos with such a low power engine. It would be OK in a lighter body but the Eos is carrying a lot of extra weight and the 2l power packs (petrol or deisel) to my mind are best for driver satisfaction and performance. The 2.0TFSI is brilliant and well worth the extra costs involved.

Thanks for the opinions guys.

Perhaps I should mention that the car I'm part exchanging for the Eos is a 1.4 Beetle Cabriolet (75bhp) so I'll probably find the 1.4TSI in the Eos with 120bhp quite nippy! :) Actually for running around the urban area (especially with the top down) the Beetle is OK but it's a bit lacking on the open road.

I found on another thread that 'gaz 4' has had a 1.4TSI since November and he seems quite happy with it.
Interestingly the torque (200nm) for the 1.4TSI is the same as the 2.0FSI.

It looks like smaller capacity turbo and/or supercharged engines are the way forward. I think VW are putting this engine in the new Skoda Superb, and will probably find it's way into the Passat as well.

As toureos says, the torque figures are for the 1.4 TSI and 2.0 FSI are very similar. The 1.4 is certainly a more flexible engine than the 1.6 it replaces, despite the smaller capacity.
