Finally got around to going to the dealer to check out deals on a new Eos, as mine is getting close to the 3yr mark now, not found another car I like as much, so figure I might as well carry on the Eos Love! :D

Anyway, current car is a 2.0 sport fsi with 140 ps,
dealer reckons that the 1.4 tsi sport is a fair comparison in terms of performance as its turbo charged etc,
whereas I've never considered anything less than a 2.0 due to the size of the car.

So, opinions please, is the 2.0 200ps worth the extra £1400; and how does the 1.4 tsi 160ps compare to what i currently have? - i like the fact that when i put my foot down, the car actually leaves others standing! lol

Mines a 2.0 T-FSI, compared to my 9 year older Fiat Coupe 20 valve turbo, I think the Eos doesn't feel anyware near as fast. Probably due to its weight so not sure how 40hp less would fair.

Mind you, in todays financial climate, anything to reduce the MPG is a good thing I say. I must admit I'm not worried about flying around fast in mine, I usually just pootle along so a smaller engine would suit me fine.

By the way, be prepared for sub 20MPG for the first year on a 2.0 turbo, i'm upto 24mpg now after 2 years, but not great is it!!

Ugg, sub 20mpg?! its supposed to be more ecconomical not half what I'm getting now! lol

Will go test drive a 1.4 tsi golf and see how that feels, if that's rubbish, then i'll have to have a think! - its hard enough to find an eos to test drive, let alone a smaller engine one!!

Anyone care to explain the difference between a T-fsi, and the new tsi? if there is one that is!

ps, ta for replying, was wondering if anyone ever would! lol

The new, late 2008 and subsequent, 2.0L turbo TSI motor has a bunch of mechanical improvements over the earlier 2.0L turbo FSI motor. Among them are a chain timing belt, a relocated oil filter (it's on top now), lowered compression ratio, and other gearhead stuff that most folks won't care about.

At least in the U.S., power is about the same for the two motors, 200hp.

Presumably the TSI motor will be more reliable and easier to maintain, but that remains to be seen. I do know that changing the oil on our Eos is a breeze.

20mpg really is lousy, especially since an Imperial gallon is larger than a U.S. gallon. We typically get 24mpg around town, and 30mpg on the highway.

It smacks of an extremely heavy right foot!
I get over 31 mpg average on mine, and I like to use the performance (in the right places of course!)

I've got two VWs with a 1.4TSI engine, an Eos with the 120 engine and a Touran with the 140 engine and I'm very pleased with both of them. Like anna r I couldn't find a TSI engined Eos (or Touran) to test drive so tried a 140 TSI Golf Sport. That was back in 2007 and I remember being impressed with the performance and I expect a 160 TSI in the Eos would be similar.
If you haven't seen it, then the roadtest of the 120 TSI Eos at http://uk.cars.yahoo.com/car-reviews/car-and-driving/volkswagen-eos-1.4-tsi-1005836.html is worth a look.

New User Hoping to purchase Eos

i love the Eos and have finally decided i need to take the plunge and buy one. I had a test drive today of a Mazda Tamura (easy finance payments) - it was ok but then i went to the VW garage and the guy offered me a test drive of the Eos and .....i'm sold! I drove the 2.0 TDiS and loved it. I did however like to think that i could get an Eos in 1.4. I'm looking for second hand and not many of them come up.
Anna r - can i just ask you - were you happy with the 1.4? How many miles o the gallon. The guy mentioned that the 2.0 TDsi said that it would get around 50 to the gallon.
Are there any problems/issues to look out for with the 1.4?
Many thanks

I don't currently own a 1.4 tsi, have a 2.0 fsi sport atm, but am looking at trading in, to what is likely to be the 1.4 tsi sport.
From what i can find out, its 0-60 (on the 160ps) is better than on my current car, and the mpg is supposedly around 40-44mpg (currently getting around 29-39 depending on type of road/journey).

am aiming to test drive a 1.4 fsi sport, but can only do that in a golf, so may do that next week some time!

To reply to the 1.4 v 2.0 debate.. I now have my 2nd Eos a 1.4tsi 160ps sport. Its a much better car than the 122sp, both in handling and performance, although being new the mpg on a run is only 42-44 keeping below the legal limit. My last journey in the 08 Eos ( with 20k miles ) returned 60 mpg - staggering ! I don't expect the 2.0 could ever hope figures like these ? Also, look around for used Eos - only 2.0 seem available.

I have the basic 1.4 tsi and find it is a good all rounder. It is certainly more responsive than the 2.0 Megane I had before. I get abour 35mpg around town and 45-50 on long journeys if I don't go mad. She will happily cruise down the motorway with the roof down at 80mph, gets a bit windy at much above that. I also find that while the scrotes in the souped up motors are busy admiring the Eos I am away and gone.;)

ta for letting me know!
have just placed order for new one, although could be waiting till march because of the garages lack of allocation slot, and a shortage of the engine!

they're getting me in a 1.4 sports in a couple of weeks for me to have for a few days, if i dont like then i have plenty of time to change the order! lol

i have had two 2.0t's and couldn't live with less performance. mpg is average 30 with a lot of town driving to a max of 36 on motorways at 80ish

by the way if you buy the 1.4 (to me a far better choice than the deisel if you want mpg's) and find you need more power you can always chip it up to 200 bhp quite easily and cheaply :D
