On verge of buying the above but VW main dealer can't tell me the mph/'000revs in 6th, manual & DSG.

Please can anyone help? perhaps if necessary by noting the revs & mph at any speed and working these ratios out?

Thank you.

Stephb: Thank you. The Sport could perhaps have lower ratios? I'm only concerned about the top gear gearing and expect this not to be far off the approx 37mph/'000revs of my present oldish Tdi 1.9 manual A3 - engine & gearbox being very much the same I am assuming.

I hope this is right i was doing 70mph in 6th and the revs were at 20000 per minute, does that make sense? my car is manual too.

Dear StephB:
Thank you - yes that sounds about right so long as you meant 2000rpm. Have googled unsuccessfully for the mph/'000rpm in 6th. Anyone else have the equivavlent for the DSG, please? Or where I could find it? Am coming to the boil over placing an order.

My question of the question, why is the top gearing important?

In case you still want to know...
6th gear on my 2 litre DSG runs at 2000 RPM at 70 MPH. Same as the manual.

Thank you - that's just as I'd hoped.

I now have an A3 1.9TDi diesel with 6 speeds, and love the very high gearing in top and the tremendous pull at around 2000rpm. I've been assuming that the EOS manual 2.0TDi engine/gearbox would have much the samevery high gearing as the A3's or at least very close. But was a bit worried that the DSG box would be lower-geared. You've dealt exactly with that uncertainty. The Autocar lists some mph/'000revs, and if there is these days some other accessible measure of gearing, then I've not come across it. If my private sale of the A3 goes through today as expected then I hope to join in the fun within a few weeks - that's the dealer's delivery promise anyway.

Took delivery yesterday of my new TDi2.0 6-speed and found that the top speed gearing is just about exactly as my previous Audi A3, viz: c37mph/'000revs, ie 2.000revs gives you c75mph.
Also just as the A3, the gear and clutch operations are extremely smooth and usable. I gathered it has a double-freewheel system for extra smoothness of uptake.
