Hi All,

Thought I would start a specific thread on the 2.0 T fuel consumption as folks post to other fuel consumption threads but neglect to say what engine they have. I have the 2.0 turbo and am one of those sad folks who document their fuel purchases, logging cost, mileage and the computer readout. I have covered over 2,500 miles from new including trips to Somerset and Scotland. The 2.0 turbo is such a sweet engine I find it hard to drive it conservatively and enjoy hoofing it on a regular basis, particularly enjoy hearing it sing up to 6,000 rpm and above (mmmm!). Well what’s the point in having the 200 bhp GTI engine if you don’t enjoy spinning that turbo?

My average fuel economy has been 28.8 mpg over 2,500 miles compared to the fuel computer which says 29.4 so computer reads about 0.5 mpg higher, (that’s UK gallons by the way so divide by 1.2 for US mpg which equals 24 mpg). My driving is a complete mix of city, country and motorway roads.

I have had achieved 37mpg on occasion driving through Wales keeping to the speed limit so the engine can be driven economically. I used to have a Seat Leon Cupra with the VAG 1.8T engine driven the same way but this only achieved an average of 27mpg and that was a smaller and lighter car so the 2.0T engine in the Eos is a significant improvement on the old 1.8T.

Fuel consumption on the VAG diesel turbo engines get better with higher mileage (although I have never seen a satisfactory reason as to why this happens) but I don’t think mpg will get any better on a petrol turbo but time will tell.

I love the Eos, never had so much fun in any other car before and the retractable roof is an absolute joy. I really enjoy driving with the roof down but when I can’t the light and airy feel of the cabin with the roof up and the glass sunroof is great. Happy to say no leaks either.

All the best, David

Your findings on MPG are very similar to mine over a larger total miles which are motorway and general roads (the occassional heavy right foot). The computer indicates 28.5mpg on the 2nd trip counter which was only reset about 2.5k miles ago. I have never done as you have compare real with computer as it's only an estimate anyway.

Good to see if other are getting the same sort of values though, good idea for a thread. The other fuel consumption thread was a bit mixed with different engines and sometimes no idea what engine was being quoted.

Cheers

I'm a very keen driver and like to use all the performance available.

I clicked on No. 2 on the computer last week and was pleased (and a bit surprised!) to see that my consumption over the last 4000 miles is 31.5 mpg. And that includes quite a bit of city driving too.

For a car with such performance (and it's not a light car either) I think that's very acceptable, even though I always put in 97 octane which does cost that bit more...

Done 4,500 miles now over the last 11 weeks and average consumption over that period based on petrol purchases is 29.5 mpg, the MFD readout over same period is 30.3 mpg.

So quite pleased with that considering how difficult it is to keep to the speed limit :D and I haven't got my cruise fitted yet.

My driving is virtually all on country roads, and very conservative ... usually around 90 kph. After 23,000 kms I am averaging 37 Imperial mpg. No lead foot here, just enjoyable open air country roads.

Hello VWConvert. Everybody is working on the same miles, but all of the quotes you see are in Imperial gallons not US gallons. Imperial gallons are 25% larger than US gallons so convert to US MPG you should multiply all quotes by .80
Hope you can follow.

over 8000 hardish miles i can report urban gives me 28.5
with a bit of motorway thrown in it has risen to 31.5
not bad in my opinion
my old lexus IS 200 used to give me under 20 urban and was nowhere near the performance of the EOS

Just had at first long life service at 14,500 miles so she is well run in now.:)
Went to Manchester the other day, motorway traffic was heavy but moving, speeds were around 60-70 mph. On arriving in the city centre I had just achieved 42mpg my highest ever. (coming back at night it was 36mpg, no traffic!). My overall average over the last few thousand is 32mpg (thats imperial gallons). Since I had the cruise fitted I find I'm speeding less

Converting the imperial gallon (1.2 US gallons), I'm getting about the same or maybe slightly less with my gas 2.0T.

It's been a while since I've been to the UK. As I remember it, the gas station sell their petrol in liters. Since the imperial gallon is 4.456 liters and your odometer is in kilometers, you must be a math wiz to come up with MPG data.

The UK never did go completly metric, petrol is sold in litres, odometers are all in miles as is the onboard computer average mpg. Warm beer is sold in pints as well (mmmmm beer!!) :)

Just filled up an hour ago and have achieved 30.1 mpg. I have to say that top down motoring tends to lead me to more sedate motoring !

That seems strange. Your speedometer is in KM's, but your odometer reads in miles. I could be wrong, but I think my US Eos has an option to display in metrics.

Read a story recently that some of the drinking holes in the US are starting to short changes us on our beer pints by designing glasses that appear to be pints that only hold 14 ounces. I've spent a lot of time in London, but don't remember any warm beer. I got some warm stout in Dublin once.

That's the great thing about the metric system, its all the same. I grew up with mpg etc but after years using the metric system you realize how much easier it is.

The warm beer reference was how tourists often react to british 'real ale' which is usually served cool but not ice cold as many folks are used to.

I have USA 2.0T with DSG, 18" all seasons, 8500 miles, using Mobil 1 5W-30 synthetic oil and tire air pressure of 38 PSI all around.

55 MPH Highway MPG without AC on 70 degree day, top down: 31.5 MPG
70 MPH Highway MPG with AC on 90 degree day, top up: 29.8 MPG

In town, 5.0 mile commute each way with 2 stop signs, 6 traffic lights, 20.5 MPG - On hot days with AC on it seems to drop to about 19.5 MPG. Average time to go this 5 miles is about 15 minutes.

Given the fun factor of the Eos and its peppy nature with the 2.0T I am good with the fuel use.

I average only 20MPG!!!!!!!!

Just had first service, they said its because its only done 4000 miles!!

Bullshit!! ,so what once its done 8000 or so it will suddenly start doing what the book says it should? Dont think so. I feel very let down by VW. This is the most thirsty car I have owned, my other car, a 1998 Fiat Coupe 2.0 20 valve turbo (5 cylinder) is MUCH MUCH better, even allowing for a little less weight and manual box.

Dude... I get mine serviced each year (although it has only had one as its only about 16 months old!)...

My ave is probably about 20 if not worse, cos I have a VERY heavy right foot!!!

The 2.0T with the DSG is the best combination.... Just be happy!! ;)

Poor mileage...

I average only 20MPG!!!!!!!
I find it hard to believe that a 2.0 Eos would only average 20MPG unless it was driven mostly in heavy stop and go city traffic OR with a heavy LEAD foot.

If neither of these driving techniques apply to you, I would complain loud and clear to your dealer as something is wrong with the gas management in your engine.

If either of these above driving techniques would describe your motoring, I would suggest driving a tank of gas with an "easy" foot just to see if your mileage might pop up to 28 MPH in town and maybe 32 MPG on the highway.

IF you're a lead foot driver, you're probably going to notice some excessive tire wear also as it's real easy to burn some rubber on takeoff.

FYI, I'm generally an "easy" driver. Perhaps a better description would be that I'm a "cruiser" that enjoys top down driving and I'm getting 28 in town and 32 on the roadways. Still, every once it a while, I like to give my ride a kick in the ass just for the fun of it. :D

I don't know what the British traffic is like so I won't comment on the source of your low mileage. I drive pretty similar to EU and my mileage meets that of VW published numbers. And that is as good or better than the Toyota Camry I had (4 cylinder engine). I get 31-32 highway and 22-24 on my city figures. Keep in mind this is with US gallons.
