I am thinking of leasing a new 2009 EOS and have a few questions. My first question is how does it handle in snow? I live in Maryland, but travel to Pennsylvania and need to be able to get around in snow. Also, any suggestion on size and type of all season tires?
Also, does the driver's seat get broken in? The seat seems very hard to me and I have concerns about the comfort.
Thanks for sharing your opinions

we have had a good amount of snow here where i live in the uk . the eos was no good in dealing with the snow. u would do best to invest in some winter treds your vw dealer will be able to help you with that. as for comfort i have red nappa leather seats and i find these a dream with great comfort as i drive a 60 mile round trip to work. the eos is a fantastic car it drives well looks great and has plenty of power . an eos would be a great choice

Like Mark said the eos doesn't really handle well in snow or ice I've just been out in mine to pick my dad up from a christmas "do"

I am looking at buying a winter set of wheels and keeping my chicago's for summer.

The drivers seat is really comfortable it hugs you so your nice and warm, especially if you get the heated seats.

Its lovely to drive and i drive alsorts of cars and vans and prefer my eos anyday.

Good Luck

We have not had any problems with winter driving of the EOS so far. Had it out yesterday, we had all conditions on the road: Hard pack snow, drifts, new snow, Ice, and salt water. We have an automatic DSG with 17" All season tires, and the EOS performs well. With good set of all season tires you will do fine if you are used to driving in snow. Granted the EOS has a lot of low end torque so go light on the peddle when starting out. I some times move over to slap stick and take of in 2 or even 3 so I do not loose traction. Good luck,

So, when you get all-season or winter tires, do you get them installed on your current wheels? And then you have to store the others?

To be quite honest, as my other car is a Dodge Dually, 3500 4x4, I tend to leave the cars parked if it snows.

Of course, I also live by the mantra "if they don't close when it snows, it snows too often for me to live there".

Virginia is about as far north as I can tolerate.

The All season tire is on 90° of the vehicles sold in Minnesota, and Wisconsin. They are a slightly softer durometer rubber with deeper tread, and gripping pattern. They stay on the vehicle all year. My second vehicle is a Chevy 2500 diesel 4X 4 and we use it when the snow is deep, or roads are way too sloppy like yesterday was. About 4 inches on the road, and blowing into 3 foot drifts. No way I want to drive the EOS throgh them, but the truck no problem.

What all season tires to you recommend?
Ours came on the EOS as an option on the vehicle Good Year Eagle's 235/45HR17 all-season tires on 17-inch alloy wheels (about $450 option from VW). On other vehicles, I have always leaned toward BFGoodrich all season tires. They generally have good tread pattern, and good life (40-60 K) warranty.

Thanks

I have to watch because the Eos would be my only car. I live in MD and we haven't had much snow the last few years. I am originally from western PA, so I am quite confident in snow driving, I just want my car to keep me confident. I was recommended some Firestone all season tires.

I'm still debating about the car. I really want it, but need to feel confident in driving in the snow.

If you were here you could get all the test drive on snow you wanted. About 6 on the ground with patchy spots on the roads, and 10 inches more expected tonight into tomorrow. I will be driving the truck in the morning:D

I would think the car would do fine IF you invest in studded winter tires. While I've never driven mine in snow, I assume the problem is all the low end torque that will "spin" the tires easily IF you are NOT gentle on the GO pedal.

I don't know if Maryland or Pennsylvania allow studded tires. But what he needs if he wants to drive in snow is real snow tires. All season tire are as the name implies. They work ok all year but don't truly work properly in any season. Snow tires have a rubber compound to work best in cold weather as well as deeper tread. Don't expect to find 17" steel wheels for the Eos. You will need to find 17" alloys, new or from another VW or go to 16" which do come in steel. Also tire experts suggest installing 4 snow tires even on front wheel drive for best handling. As for seats, I have the sport package and the stiffer seats are just fine for me. And as EU says, go lightly on the gas pedal.

Granted, snow tires are better, however lived in MN and WI snow belt all of my life, and only had snow tires back in the 70's before the improvements of all-season tires became the norm. I have been driving our EOS in snow, Ice and not had a problem. The all-season good year eagles that VW factory puts on are really good. The EOS has been just as good if not better than other cars we have had (Chevy Aveo terrible), (Grand Prix moderate), and (buick regal ok). All depends on how you drive.

We dun have snow in S'pore but lotsa rain. What the EOS lacks is in wet traction sometimes, and like many said, go easy on the pedal esp from standstill or waiting for your turn before a corner, the low gears can spin the wheels easily.

That said, I love driving my EOS anytime, its always a joy to drive it and its one of the stuff i look forward to when i leave for or from work :D

:) Hey all!
Thanks for all the advice. I have decided that since my current lease is not up until March, that I will go around to different dealers and see if any cars interest me. If I find nothing else, then I know I am supposed to get an EOS, unless I find a great deal before March!
