Good find!

The only change that I don't like is the removal of the windshield sunroof screen which I think definitely lowers noise and wind.

The other change that a lot of forum people will like is the "hill hold" on the DSG transmission cars. The slight roll back on my '08 doesn't bother me a bit.

Hi
Don't think its the small pop up windscreen that you have concerns about, It looks like its the vents on the sunroof blind, thats not so bad.

Won't worry me as the current Eos is less than 2 months old and its on a 3 year lease.

Is it possible to provide some background information about this graphic. This is a smart looking shape. Thanks

The car above is the new golf convertible it only comes out next year, it just looks pretty much the same as the eos :)

Although the Golf convertible looks good, the great advantages of the Eos are the large sunroof that gives a light and airy interior, the additional security and the ease of cleaning the roof compared to a rag top. I spend a lot of time in Penzance and the prolific gull guano that descends from the heavens there would be a nightmare to scrape off a rag top!

The Golf wheelbase looks shorter than the Eos so it would be cramped in the back seats and have very limited luggage space in the boot.

Surely, the great advantage of the Eos is that it was designed specifically to be a four seater car with reasonable luggage space and fold away tin roof, and it does the job well. The Golf, in common with all the other coupe convertibles, suffers from being a modified version of an existing tin top model.

Pictures of the new Golf Mk 6 were shown in magazines a couple of weeks ago and included was this new Golf Convertible. I put a link in from this site but it only worked for 24 hours then disappeared. The magazine said there were copyright issues with the pictures and they had to be withdrawn from their website.

The pictures (including this one) are in fact computer-generated and are not photos, although they usually prove to be pretty accurate when the model does appear.

Quite why VW wants a soft-top VW Golf cabrio as well as the Eos I'm not sure, but why did they want the Scirocco (which is essentially a fixed-roof hatchback Eos) as well? And they have gone ahead with that one. Seems they are intent on covering every single tiny niche.

I won't try to guess VW marketing but I will say that Euro and NA is way different. For 09 we are being supplied only 2 Eos models and no V6 or Sport models. There is no diesel in the works. We finally will get the Xenons on the 2.0 model as an option. Maybe be they are already making room for a Golf Cabriolet and the Scirocco and who knows what. There are rumors swirling about the end of the Eos. VW here is putting out a minivan in conjunction with Chrysler and the Tiguan is due later this year as well. Looks like they are looking at niche marketing here. Who knows. Maybe the Concept R ( the boxster look a like) may come to fruition at some point and a pickup and........

The Golf does not push any buttoms for me, very short rear end, it appears to have little baggage shortage. The Eos with the top down still has a fair bit of storage. The Eos roller cases are quite large.
I like having the hardtop option with the sun roof. If the Eos is dropped, I'll look elsewhere for my next convertible.

The EOS was always planned to be bigger than the Golf convertible.... I think it was the media which portrayed it as the new Golf convertible, but like you said, it is really a passat convertible, similar in size to the A4 and Volvo ones.

New TDI engine :) Many, many thanks for this invaluable info. I dashed back to my local dealer, having signed the order form 2 days ago, and cancelled in favour of a 2009 model. I will have to wait 6-8 weeks for delivery, but I will be getting all the bits & pieces referred to above (nice new tactile, colour screen radio) PLUS, perhaps most important of all, the new common rail 140hp TDI engine, which by all accounts is significantly quieter & smoother than the old unit.

If I hadn't read this post, I would never have known about the changes and would have been stuck with an 'obsolete' model.

MERCI BEAUCOUP!! :)

It will be interesting to know what sort economy you will receive out of the new motor. One thing that has always struck me as odd when people talk about cars and there power outputs, is the lack of notice they take with regard to the weight of the vehicle. The power to weight ratio of the vehicle is what it is all about whether you interested in performance or economy.

Is the increase in power just due to tweek with the management system or is it due to something more fundamental within the engine?

The new TDI engine has exactly the same power & torque figures as the old one (140hp, 320Nm). It just uses more up-to-date common rail technology rather than injector pumps for a smoother drive & less noise. I doubt performance or fuel consumption will be affected much, if at all.

Just noticed that the UK sales doucments have been updated with the new EOS spec for 2009 and the new engine has a slight increase in MPG:

2008:
Urban 35.5
Extra Urban 56.5
Combined 47.1

2009:
Urban 38.2
Extra Urban 58.9
Combined 48.7

Actual the increase is better than slight if you are an urban dweller!!!

So those with a frugal right foot should be able to eek 60mpg on a long run!
