4 weeks ago today I took the 2008 Eos to the dealership because the transmision was acting up. Jerking when applying on the gas pedal when moving from a stop position.

Was told it was the flywheel and they would have to order one. Next day I get a call to tell me that the part is "back order". They finally received it last week only to discover that it was not the problem. Now they will order a megatronics unit (the main brain of the transmission). They still don't know how long it will take to get the part as none is available in North America. They have had me use a rental (non convertible) car for 4 weeks. Yesterday I asked for a convertible as the forecast is for a sunny and warmer week-end. They said they would look into it. They also said that would talk to VW Head Office to try to refund me for the cost of the lease on the EOS for one month. Still waiting on that one too.

I love the car but I'm not impressed with this thing with parts not being available in a reasonable time frame.

Anyone else running into this type of situation with VW? What did you ask for compensation? Any luck with your request? What would you do?

Thank you for your help.

Update

The dealership informed me yesterday that they are not sure when the part will be in. I talked to VW Canada and told them that I wanted to return the car (it's a lease). They said they would look into it and get back to me today or tomorrow. I have been out of my car for 6 weeks now.

On the positive side, thay have agreed to waive the lease payments for the duration on my time spent without the car.

I don't want to be payment-free, I want my car as it is summer now and they don't last long in Canada.

Secind update

We talked to VW Canada on Friday and they offered this:

The part that is coming from Germany should be here in Tuesday or Wednesday. If the car is fixed, we get it back and they refund the lease payment for 3 months to compensate for our troubles.

If the problem is not fixed, they accept to cancel the contract and take the car back but we don't get any compensation for the time that we are out of our car.

We are at 6 1/2 weeks now.

Oh dear! sorry to hear about your Eos troubles.

Fingers crossed you will be back on the road soon. I am sure you are missing your baby!

Thankfully so far I have had no problems but no matter how trivial I will be right down that dealership to get it sorted. At the end of the day you pay a lot of money for the car - you deserve the best!

Good luck with everything! Please let us know how you get on.

You know what's funny?

Every single forum, for every single car, will have posts exactly of this type of nature. Someone gets unlucky.

Let's face reality: never judge a car on just your experience. You may just have been unlucky.

I was just asking if other Eos owners had the same problem so we could share information on how to get it straightened out and ask for proper compensation.

I love the car and have nothing bad to say about it. I, too, believe that it is just bad luck.

By the way, the car got fixed today, it took 41 days. VW Canada let me use a rental for the whole period and they will pay me around $2000 for compensation. I couldn't ask for more. I think it is pretty generous.

So now the summer can begin for me.
