I guess it's fixed. I haven't tested it yet. This is what was on the shop work order report.

Customer states top is leaking where top meets windshield, both sides.

Seal at windshield not sealed properly.
Checked for signs of leak. Removed both A pillars and roof trim. Water tested and found leak at seal over A pillars.
Checked seals and found seals coming away from surface. Sent vehicle to body shop to have seal repaired.

That's all it says. I would like to have read, "body shop sent car back, seal was fixed, no more leak" Oh well I'll see what happens. Looks like they may have fixed it. The leak was a very slow drip/run down both A pillars. My wife took it,I haven't even had time to look at it, I'll let you know what happens.

Would have been nice if they had said that seal was retested for water leakage, none found.

Nope. Still Leaks.
I think I'll take them a picture of the little bottle of lubricant with Krytox and suggest they use it. They waxed the car and got wax on the seals. I think that made them a little dryer than normal anyway.

I want to acknowledge Cliff Leppke from VW Club of America for finding and publishing this idea that I want to share. It was part of an article he wrote about a road test of an Eos. In the first picture note the hole below the hole where the roof locating pin will go when the roof is put up. This lower hole is the drain that goes down through the A-pillar. In the second picture please note the round item below the locator pin. This is a drain tube from the roof. In his article he had a leak here because the tube slipped out of the bracket that held the tube in place and did not connect to the drain hole. When he remounted the tube in the bracket the leak stopped. So for those who use the special lubricant and still have a leak at the A-pillar, check this as a possible cause.

Thanks for the info. I checked mine and the tubes were good. We still have a little drip but have not lubricated the seals yet. Still hoping the dealership will get it fixed. But your post was very helpful.
Thanks.

Great photos, I agree. I recently had the A pillar leak too. The dealer checked it all out and told me there was a TSB on this. No problems since. Nice to see the photos, though, so as to better understand the "anatomy".

ive got leaks at the top of both pillars. drips in heavy rain. Ive posted on the issue but without response so Ive come hunting for other sufferers. im pretty sure its the junction of the tubes and the top bit that is leaking. ive done tests and my drains are fine. Does anyone know how to get into this area to have a look? What was the TB on this? Does VW do anything about it? tks for any help.

We've put a guide over here for A-pillar leaks. I hope it will help you.
My wife's 3 year old Eos just started leaking. I followed the instructions on this post and it fixed the leaks on both sides. The plastic drain tubes had become slightly out of round and a small gap had formed at the junction of the drain tubes and the rubber connector. We had called our local dealer about the leak and they told us "convertibles leak". They didn't even offer us the option to bring it in. I would like to thank the folks on this forum that share information. It saved me a ton of heartache! :)

Have a 2008 EOS that started getting a few drops on both A-Pillars. When Hurricane Irene hit the East Coast, it flooded the passenger side pretty bad. Fortunately, the fix to the drainage tubes, removal and replacement of the carpeting, was all covered under the original warranty. Had to bring it back a second time because of a small leak still on the driver's side. The dealer actually moved the height of the window up a little. Lastly, he gave me some notice from VW stating that a small amount of water (i.e. leaks) is acceptable in certain situation. You guys have water collect in the bottom of the door jam at all? When it rains a lot and i open the door, like a few cups of water falls out (looks like it was stored at the bottom of the chassis and opening the door caused it to fall out)

in an effort to help out with all of this, I actually got a semi car cover from the UK, from the suggestion from one of these threads. It helps alot with the water:

Have a look at thread http://www.vweosclub.com/forums/showthread.php?t=3015&highlight=doors+water. There is a post there by nail-z-gull with a picture of where to cut the rubber seals to let the water out.

Glad to hear that the UK could help you out with the cover - usually its the US that has all the aftermarket parts.

Our 2007 started leaking this past summer. The seals were fine but it still leaked. Turns out the drain holes were clogged somewhere in the A-pillar. Because of time constraints I couldn't clean them out myself following instructions I've seen on this site so I took it to the dealer where they cleaned the drains and water tested it and the leaks stopped. I had other service done but I think it was around $100.00 for them to clean/test the drains and check the seals. Probably a rip-off but we had a really rainy week or so and my wife was tired of coming home with her right leg soaked from the drip.

Pillar leak passenger side

I have a 2012 EOS and noticed leak on the passenger side where the pillar meets the windshield.
I have already fully cleaned and lubricated with proper lubricant. Tested drains and all else seems fine.
There is a 1/4" or more gap on the passenger side.
This gap is evident only from the inside of the car, from the outside everything looks fine!
Is there an adjustment or a latching issue?

Sorry if I did not post in proper place as I am brand new to the forum.

Thank you.

I don't have any leaks but I do have gaps beteeen the interior trim covers of about 7mm. I've always thought they looked ugly if you look hard. The important thing is the painted top sections both close up to the A frame seal without any gaps. In fact, if you slip in some very thin paper and close the roof you should feel friction on the paper.

If the seal is tight on the outside the roof top sections can't move forwards any further (to close the internal gap). I've had my trim covers off a few times and when I did the A pillar leak fix and I'm wondering if I was a bit sloppy replacing that top plastic cover and if I'd spent more time, it might have closed some of the gap?

The leak you are getting is either water getting in from outside past the final run of seal on the corner (check grab with paper) or it is water getting into the sunroof front drain and leaking past the tapered hollow drain peg that fits into the rubber cone tapered collector? It is rubber and even with the gaps you see in the trim, the peg doesn't have to go in that far to seal. You should also check the problem of the bad hoses inside the A pillars, which was the subject of my original post with the fix. I suspect if this leak is occuring whilst you are driving in rain, it is due to water getting in past the outside seal. Problems with the front sunroof drains usually occur after the car has been left standing in the rain (downhill) and trapped water then sloshes forwards into a blocked drain or leaking hose when you drive. :( But you shouldn't get water into the sunroof drains anyway if its seal is good on the corners. With the kind of trim gap you have you should be able to park on a slight downslope and pour water into the sunroof drain channel, watching if it leaks past the rubber peg and cone by looking through the trim gaps with a flashlight.. If there's no leak or water isn't backing up, I think you should concentrate on the external seal on each front corner.

On my 2009 I have never had such a big gap. If the gap is so large that you can actually see the components inside the pillar and leaking water, have a professional look at it. The EOS roof should never be adjusted DIY and only a trained professional either VW dealer or someone who is very experienced (Indy VW trained mechanic) with the right tools should attempt to align it.

I've developed similar problems of late on the drivers side (rhd) drain pipes in pillars all ok. Fine when driving in torrential rain, but parked outside the house ( downhill) I have to leave a plastic bag on the seat with a large towel, which gets saturated pain in the (wet) butt!
