Hi

I've liked the Eos since it came out and pretty much decided a couple of days ago to have a serious look so called at the dealers today. Had a test drive and liked it so will in all likelihood call back tomorrow and place an order - bye bye Passat as I suffer yet another mid life crisis :D

Had a few VWs in my time, including one of the first New Beetles in the country and driving the Eos reminded me of the big smile the Beetle put on my face every time I drove it - something no car has done before or since.

If anyone gets the time to reply quickly I'd like views on what I'm thinking of going for:

DSG - Essential and no comments needed!
2.0 TSI 200 PS engine - rather than the 2.0 TDI - more power and not sure about the diesel with the roof down. A good engine?
Leather.
Cruise control - essential for an old hippie.
2 Zone aircon - worth the extra?
Wind deflector - doubtful as I doubt I could be @rsed fitting it but user comments welcome!
Multi-function steering wheel (with paddles) yes if it doesn't delay delivery but am I wasting money.
What else might I regard as essential?

Can't wait!

Hiya Beetnik

You can see by my signature what I went for, I wanted the individual just for the upholstery.

The thing I miss the most is Zenon lights, my wife is very fortunate through her company and has always had Porsches'

Her current drive is a Cayenne Turbo S with cermic brakes. The thing that makes the car for me is the quality of the lights. I live out in the sticks and zenon lights with adaptive are superb.

Cruise is great for avoiding the speed traps, the 2.0tfsi is a great engine, very responsive and quick and frugal if you drive accordingly.

I thought about derv but could not do it.

Whatever you choose, the EOS is a top car, I gad a golf gti cc on an 86 plate many moons ago and that was great, this reminds me of that.

The dual zone aircon imho is worth it. I like cool, wife likes hot and it is really noticeable in each side of the car.

wind deflector is really worth it, ruins the lines but on a cold day with the top down who cares. My advice, buy on ebay, they are going well under a hundred smackeronies.

Multi fun wheel is great, worth the money and will aid resale although I cant comment on dsg as i dont have it.

Heated seats are superb and well worth it on a winters day.

Enjoy.

I bought a wind deflector from eBay. In hindsight I probably wouldn't have bothered.

I don't use it in the summer as I like the blustery 'wind in the hair' feeling when driving - which I why I bought a cabrio in the first place. The wind deflector is only really a benefit when it's cold but bright.

I didnt get the DSG went for manual TDI so can't really help on that,

The wind deflector is worth it but best buying it off ebay i didnt and paid £250for it!

I got the MF steering wheel its really good as you can control the volume for the cd player and turn it up when a good tune comes on!!

as for the leather i got the full cornsilk beige nappa leather i'd recommend getting a darker colour as mine have slightly gone blue with my jeans :(

Went for manual personally

2.0 TSI 200 PS engine - rather than the 2.0 TDI - more power and not sure about the diesel with the roof down. A good engine?
Get the diesel, you can't hear the engine inside the car! Still averaging 48+mpg. My mileage is high (30K/yr) so it has to make sense. If yours will be above 15K do the same. Personally I like the torque for cruising anyway.

Leather.
It's a convertible, of course you need leather, mine's red :)

Cruise control - essential for an old hippie.
Add after you've bought the car - it's cheaper from the dealer!

2 Zone aircon - worth the extra?
Thought the LED's were very offputting at night, gave it a miss, haven't noticed it, but then it's summer and I have the roof down or sunroof open a lot.

Wind deflector - doubtful as I doubt I could be @rsed fitting it but user comments welcome!
Test car had one, I didn't bother and haven't missed it, I carry kids in the back as a family car most days. The head rest is very good at stopping rear buffeting.

Multi-function steering wheel (with paddles) yes if it doesn't delay delivery but am I wasting money.
Absolutely essential, I like to adjust volume controls and mute, and of course on all RHD cars the volume switch is further away -should be standard at the price. I'm also considering Bluetooth adapator for the phone button.

What else might I regard as essential?
Aux input or ipod preparation, can be added later. Forget autochangers and forget posh speakers, the basic Sport has an excellent stereo as is. Wheels can always be different, this is relatively cheap option at purchase. Boot liner

Can't Wait
You will...mine was 16 weeks:eek:

I have adaptive Xexons on my D3 and they are great even in town. That is tha only thing I miss on my Eos. To get them would how meant a 5 month wait, couldn't wait that long.
I like the TDI with the DSG , as I get between 700 and 850 kms from 50 litres in town driving.
Leather - MUST
Cruise - MUST on the motorways (save your licence)
Dual zone - Standard
iPod adaptor - absolutely

Just go for evthg you can afford...

Hi
I have every single option available on my 2.0TDI '08 EOS, except the SatNav and the anti-roll-back-hill-holder: DSG, leather, seat heating, xenons, wind deflector, USB prep (works with USB stick as well as with iPOD on a USB cable), multi-function wheel with palets (extremly useful if you're going to drive up and down mountains, where engine-break won't do good enough on DSG...)... I cannot think of any non-useful option to go for...

And for gasoline vs. diesel: if you can afford gasoline (speedometers, mpg's, no big hill to climb at sustained speed...), then go for it, else the 2.0TDI does magic in terms of torque, speed, and noise levels.

Enjoy!

Contrary to many votes ... I would get the wind deflector ... cuts down the noise and wind. Besides if you don't get it with the car, the charge is twice as much later on! You only live once, go for everything!

I agree with Fred.
It does expand the season you can drive with the top down in comfort - you can do it on even quite cold days without any uncomforable draughts.

Definately go along with SHF and neh on the wind deflector - a must
Leather a must as you also get the heated seats with it - great in the winter with the roof down
iPod prep also a must - great not to have to remove the iPod every time you leave the car!
Cruise control - yep definately - goes without saying

I've got the wind deflector and I'd say it was worthwhile. Only takes a minute or so to put up.

As far as options delaying delivery, it didn't take much in the way of options for mine to become a factory order, so I don't think it matters then what you select. The MF steering wheel makes it easier to manage the display and I always promised myself a car with paddle shift :D

I'm about to become the shortest serving member ever :(

Went along and spec'd up the Eos and what I wanted put the price at a touch over £29k which quite surprised me for a car where the base price is £23k.

Called at Mercedes dealers (which I'd previously dismissed as I thought it would require far more spondulics) and spec'd up an SLK with similar goodies. Admitedly it's costing £5k more but I was mightily impressed and left a deposit. OK, only two seats but then I don't need four.

Sad to leave the VW/Audi group - I've got three on the drive and have had nothing else for 8 years but looking forward to a different experience.

Really liked the Eos, especially that DSG gearbox and I'm sure I'd have thoroughly enjoyed owning one but have to say I loved the Merc and that was the clincher.

I'll get mi coat...

Wind deflector seems to divide opinion. I simply think you don't need it. As i was lucky to get a car to an almost identical spec to that i wanted at less than 2 weeks notice i haven't got Xenon's. but in all honesty i don't think they're essential. Cruise control in my opinion is only ok if you travel in the middle of the night as hardly ever get to cruise at the same speed with today's traffic. As for DSG, i much prefer a standard manual gearbox.

Air deflector up, Wind Deflector installed and up, and Side Windows up makes for a very comfortable ride experience at 55 MPH ( 100 Kmph ) when riding on longer trips on two lane roads in the countryside when the wind blowing on your head gets old after a while. Well worth it is my two cents worth.

Also shades and hides anything gear you have on the back seat.

I specced the wind deflector, and for motorway journeys, I always put it in place. As has been said, with the windows up as well, you can drive on the motorway all day with very little buffeting. If I'm not on the motorway, I always have all the windows down, and don't bother with the deflector. I love the wind around the cabin, and, being a baldy, I've got no hair issues to worry about:D

That's pretty much what I do too.

Just had a test drive

Hi Guys,

I have been trying to decide between the volvo convertable and the eos and after much decision decided on the eos :D .

I have just had a test drive in the 2.0 sport petrol but as i know i want

Leather Seats
Sat Nav
Wind Sheld (long ish hair)

Colour Choice Paprika Red with Cornsilk or Metalic Silver with Black leather.

Engine - Something fuel economic which means 2.0 petrol or TDI

I am a little worried about the noise of the TDI, hubbie has the passat with the same sized engine so is it really that noisy?

Having read what everyone else has posted i am now tempted to dump the cd autochanger and get the MF steering wheel, the independant air con and the cruise control which i had not though about.

I am considering financing with lease purchase anyone else done this in which case what costs might i expect??

The 16wk wait basicaly blows my summer with an open top out of the water so do you think buying later in the year when its cold worked for you?

thanks

Hi and welcome Cambourne7. Don't know where in the world you are but the wait is part of the EOS experience as you will already have read. As for 'waiting till the summer is over', it probably is already anyway in the U.K. If you search the forum under 'How cold will you go' or something like that then you will realise that as long is it isnt raining most of us have the roof down whatever the weather! Roof down, bug catcher up, wind deflector up, bum warmers on and out on the open road - LUVERLEY !

Hi Cambourne7 i ordered my eos in november! it doesnt make a difference to be honest when you order it!

I'll be really honest and say do not get the cornsilk leather as i have it and really regret it, yeah it looks good but if your like me and wear jeans alot that colour isnt for you :( my seats in the front especially have gone green/blue from the dye off my jeans :( gutted!

I have the MF steering wheel its brilliant we have a spare button here in the UK the phone button it works with certain nokia phones but you have to have bluetooth in your eos ect ect...

I have the 2.0 TDI sport its not noisy at all your more than welcome to come and have a test drive of mine if you dont live far away :) it does have the usual start up noise when its cold but thats it.

I didnt get the sat nav as you can buy a good tom tom for £300 so didnt think about £800 was worth paying.

The wind deflector is a must BUT please dont buy it from VW as its £250 and you can get them on ebay for about £100.

I didnt get cruise control as on motorways now your always having to brake for some fool or other!

sorry for the long post but i hope ive helped
