Has anyone changed out the Radio, and found a switched 12V source for the power? I had this all figured out for my Passat, but now that I've moved to an EOS, I can't find any info on it. Thanks in advance!

So I tested the 6 pins that had connections in the mini plug, and none of them had voltage, however, since I had the face plate off, and the radio out, I decided to pull the climate control as well, and guess what I found? a switched 12v, right underneath. I have the cd changer/sat radio and the dual zone cliamte control (3 dials) (just in case wiring is different between features) on the largest of the 3 harnesses to the climate control, there are 2 larger wires, brown=ground, the other =switched 12v. since its right under the radio theres no need to snake wires either, very clean solution. Thanks for the advice, and pointing me in the right direction. I'll post a pic of the connector and wires once I get the image off my camera. again, thanks!

Switched 12V

There are 3 possible locations:
As discussed, the CD changer plug does normally have a switched 12V, though may only be present when stereo is on - this one is no use if you are replacing the stereo.

Climate control - first connection on right (should be green/back - colour can vary).

Switched 12V to airbag warning light - needs to be connected carefully (NOT for the inexperienced). Key MUST be out of ignition switch when making connection. Use multimeter to test for 12V presence. All wiring must be re-connected before igniton is turned back on or the airbag light will come on - dealer reset.

The other option is to buy a CAN bus interface and use this instead. This has the advantage that it will come on with ignition, but not go off until key removed, whereas the other hard-wire methods will only have switched 12V in the engine run position.

Currently have my DAB stereo wired to climate control 12V but when get some time will fit a CAN bus unit. The CAN unit will aslo allow use or the multifunction steering wheel phone buttons.

The 12V Accessory Outlet near the shift lever is another source of switched 12V = it is fed by a 10A fuse - that is what I used when I installed Parrot 3000 Bluetooth in my Eos.

Don't think so if you are talking about the arm rest installation. The plug installed and the socket on the iPod are Apple specific. There is another option of a connector in the glove compartment that offers a 3.5mm jack but then there won't be any power to keep your player charged.

Perhaps someone else has seen a good solution for you
Cheers
